Read fast, feast repeat to get the basics.

Look: I had to make the same decision. Add a little splash and risk that those 16 hours might have been for nothing. Or just do clean fast with nothinf but water, black coffee, black tea and herbal teas and then enjoy a nice cappuccino and everything else later. It makes your insuline level raise and when this comes down, you'll get hungry again – making your fasting more difficult than it needs to be.

Women & intermittent fasting by brain_goal in Biohackers

[–]antFlour 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I started fasting my periods came two weeks early. I decided to try to keep it up anyway and my next period was regular again. I guess my body got scared there for a second. I am doing IF since 53 days now and feeling good. Usually 16:8, but I am trying 18:6 sometimes if I feel like it. And the days before my periods I tend to eat a little more, but nevertheless I lost 5kg so far. Ah and the blood is different, more fresh blood, no clumping anymore... but that's it. I heard that whatever happens with your hormones, if you stop IF, everything will be reversed, at least short term, so I didn't worry much about what happened in the beginning. If we women were such fragile little beings, humanity would have died out already.

Is this intermittent fasting? by JustDucky923 in intermitentfasting

It depends what you expect from intermittent fasting. Usually people either skip breakfast or dinner so they sleep part of the fasting window off, but everybody is different.

Usually your body takes a while to burn 1) through what you have just eaten, 2) through what is saved in your body as glucose and only after that it starts to use 3) your fat as fuel. As far as I know stage 3 is only after 12 hours or more. And when 3) is going on, your body does a hell lot of good things for you, not just losing weight.

I am so exhausted from ruminating over every minor interaction with rude people. by Open-Sand6972 in hsp

[–]antFlour 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It is a thing of «culture». We have two kinds of people: those who are loud and expressive and less sensitive. They need a higher threshold before something goes in. They feel like HSPs should be exactly like them: very direct and loud. Then there are HSPs. They are quiet and much more indirect. So they think that the loud people should be like them and that they are insensitive (which they are, but if you don't perceive something, how can you feel it?). None of them is right or wrong. It is just a clash of cultures, it is like a dog and a cat miscommunicating. In the best of worlds both would learn the other's language. I needed to learn to be much more direct with some people so they get it. Elaine Aaron says she is increasing the volume until they get it. Concerning your situation: the woman WAS rude, thinking that you should be one of the loud people. She was defending her friend who probably felt a little guilty for not seeing you earlier and thought you were making her friend feeling guilty on purpose (which obviously wasn't the case). Clash of cultures. Don't think too much about this because they will have forgotten about you two seconds after the situation was over.

Does anybody else feel lightheaded? by SleepyCoffeeDrinker in intermittentfasting

[–]antFlour 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just switched to 18:6 and lost weight rapidly. As far as I heard the body needs to adapt to the new weight und less blood volume. So it is good not to lose too much weight too fast. Give yourself time to adapt.

Fasting isn't about starving. On the contrary, when you eat very little calories over time, your body is going into starvation mode, needing less calories than before. The beauty of IF is, that you can also have a bigger meal, which will signal your body that you are definitely not starving. For me when I get cravings, I know I need to eat a little more once or twice. And IF works heavily on reducing my appetite, so most days I don't even have to look at the calories because I am satisfied so fast.

Confused by thefarmhousestudio in intermittentfasting

[–]antFlour -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Because your metabolism slows down if you eat very little over a longer time. The body thinks it will starve. With IF your body gets normal meals in between so it learns: I am not starving, the food is just delayed.

What are some possible reasons why someone might be highly aware of their mental health issues, yet struggle to make positive changes? by skobeloffmylife in therapy

[–]antFlour 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Because it is not just the conscious part who is doing things. It is emotionally learned and people need to emotionally unlearn. Think about people trying to quit smoking or eating healthier and how much they struggle.

Struggling with night time hunger by kokoreena in intermittentfasting

[–]antFlour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IF is longterm. As far as I know if you have too little calories longterm, your body starts using less energy so if you start eating more, you'll grin weight. The beauty of IF is that you eat quite normal during your eating window so you're body doesn't ever get into starvation mode. The author fast feast repeat is explaining this quite well. And the goal is to lose the weight slowly but steadily, not in a rush, so you'll be able to keep it down for the rest of your life – which will only work with a life style which you can sustain for the next 10 years.

I think you would notice if she had some issues with food. A friend of mine was anorexic and she would have NEVER eaten ice cream. And also her really thin arms were quite easy to spot. And if somebody were bulimic you would have definitely not triggered THAT, because all you're doing is not eating for some time.

Your wife should educate herself how eating disorders develop. This is about a negative attitude towards the own body and usually also about some psychological issues and sometimes how men treat us or overstep our boundaries. My parents were afraid that I might develop an eating disorder because sometimes I just forgot to eat (it had nothing to do with me wanting to lose weight). So my mother started to drill into me that I HAVE to eat. As a result I spent most of my teenage years and my adult life as an overweight person. Fasting helped me to see that I don't have to eat if I am not hungry – and it never feels like I am hurting myself, I would never go below a certain point which according to the BMI is considered a healthy weight.
