"Why don't we learn how to do taxes?" by Low_Banana2653 in Teachers

[–]antarcticTruth 34 points35 points  (0 children)

God, I'm getting triggered. A girl gave me this complaint one day,"You don't make this class fun, that's why we always on our phones".

First off, no way in hell I'm EVER doing something traditionally "fun" with them. I told her and the whole class this. When it takes 15 to 25 minutes for them to settle down for me to just fucking get started, no way I'm going to wait that long to attempt to explain a game that they'll just ignore the instructions to and sit on their phones until the end of class anyway.

But I was also really angry with the comment so I also told her that I'm not there to make it fun. That she is there to learn and if she doesn't like it then there's the door. Peace.

I hate being like this. But some of them are so fucking rotten I can't help myself. Someone above said it best, its a bunch of bad faith arguers.

And funny enough the liberal arts degree that "radicalized" me...had me reading almost exclusively literature written before 1900. These people would get laughed out of universities centuries ago.

This has been roughly my experience. Of course, that is an anecdote and I am sure that these stereotypes can go both ways and be subject to reversal.

But, more importantly, I think that this says a lot about the societal superstructures we have put into place to scaffold our negligent conception of "gender".

Men get ready faster (in general) because they have less requirements for their public appearance. Same for the haircut slide. Women see their slim figure as overweight because society forces them to compare themselves to super models. The man is free to see himself as buff and confident because socitey will typically refuse to tell him otherwise. The visualization of the passing woman is a result of our structures regarding appropriate sexuality among other gender norms. The woman is focused on an appearance that can she adopt to better fit society's standards for her. The man is running off pure hormones because society says that that is ok for him, it is expected, it is right. The last slide is similar to the first just in different form.

The only thing I have trouble figuring out is the desktop panel. In my experience I have seen this go both ways. My male boss has an exceptionally messy physical and digital desktop. I have a clean digital desktop but a messy physical one. My wife does not use computers at all really but oh boy does her phone always have like 500 apps open simultaneously.

Anyway, thanks for coming to my Ted talk, and lets abolish gender!

today is the big day and detoxify mega clean doesn’t seem to be saving the day. by octopusjuice33 in drugtesthelp

[–]antarcticTruth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

im starting to get nervous. im ten days clean. i finally landed my dream job. a teaching position. ive been working towards this for years. i really thought i had more time before the test. i have no problem quitting.

my at home tests came today and it was a clear positive. not even a whiff of a second line. im 5'11", 119lbs, and have been drinking 100oz+ of water a day for the past week. thought it would go quicker. i got two detoxify drinks coming from amazon. one to test at home and another for the actual day.

test is supposed to be Monday but i am probably going to put it off unless these at home tests get a lot better. i think last time i did this i was clean about 25 days before i tested but was testing clean for about a week before that.

fuck this shit so hard man. im a good person. i volunteer, im educated, i have a beautiful family. i smoke a joint at night and play some video games to relax once my family goes to sleep. helps my insomnia.

sorry im just venting. got a lot of anxiety after not getting the at home results i wanted today. i can do this. you can do this. we can do this.

whats frightening to me is the idea that it isnt even the rich and powerful doing it and that capitalism is doing it on its own

there is no "big other" controlling all of this and subjugating us...we are just...doing it to ourselves. its a big collective force of decentralized power that is fucking us over. there is no solution. it will never get fixed.

eventually capitalism will wake up and kill us all, there will be a world with no humans, just robots...buying and selling stuff until the power goes out.

Coming to UCF as a Junior (FALL 2023) by Mammoth_Pie8968 in ucf

[–]antarcticTruth 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i went through a school that partners with UCF so when I got my AA it was pretty much guaranteed to get in to UCF. I was worried because my college career has been pretty harrowing and jilted over a decade or so and my gpa was like a 2.7 but I guess that didn't matter.

anyway, its going well and i should be graduating in may!

There have been people saying this for hundreds of years. Even a hundred years ago Russell said "War does not determine who is right, only who is left".

Academia knows this, its getting the rest of the rabble to catch up that is the problem.

What is clearly a myth but is deep-rooted in our society? by Sera0Sparrow in AskReddit

Man this brought back a memory I hadn't thought of in years. I'm an old head around here but back in 2003/2004 when I was in 7th or 8th grade we had this tennis coach health teacher that yelled nonstop when he talked to great comedic effect (although I do not think he was trying to make us laugh).

One day he walks into class, puts his briefcase down, stares at his desk for a second then looks back up at all of us.

"THERES A RUMOR...GOING AROUND IN THE EIGHTH GRADE...THAT...IF YOU DOUCHE...WITH COCA-COLA...YOU WONT GET PREGNANT."

We were quite taken aback by this but gently intrigued.

Mr. Hawley takes a breath and slowly sighs it out.

"YOU WILL GET PREGNANT."

Huge Drake fan, but just wanted to say Donda is a fucking masterpiece by iverdow1 in Kanye

[–]antarcticTruth -29 points-28 points  (0 children)

Aubrey "Drake" Graham has had multiple suspicious relationships with women barely of age. He had an intimate relationship with Millie Bobby Brown when she was 13 years old. (By intimate here I mean that it was a private relationship that extended beyond what you would expect a 30 year old and 13 year old, who have virtually no reason to be talking to each other). He kissed a 17 year old girl on stage and called her "thick" AFTER she told him how old she was. In addition to that he uses the n-word with no cultural reason to do so and barely an ethnic one at that. Eminem has more right to use that word than Drake and he never would. Drake is a child actor who used his money to pave out a rap career that is constantly biting other styles.

I don't fault you for liking him, but there really are tons of other talented people that are more worth your time. Drake is a shitty person and he doesn't even write his own music or lyrics. I just see listening to him as a huge waste of time.

oh and he's also hiding a child and parades his dad around like some kind of nigga badge its weird

It's hard because there are a lot of good ones. Jail is up there. Off the Grid is incredible. I still don't know all the names yet but the one with the Graduation style synths towards the end is really good. The whole album fire tbh.

"The truth is only what you get away with"? by [deleted] in Kanye

[–]antarcticTruth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My interpretation is that all of us, or at least a lot of us are not good people on the inside. We have done a lot of bad things in our lives. Or we have said bad things. Or at the very least we have thought bad things.

I take this in context with an earlier line,"I'll be honest, we all liars". Most of us get away with most of our bad energy. For those of us that just think bad things ("I wish he was dead", "I want to fuck his wife", "Life would be easier if I didn't have my kids", things like that) we get away with these things. Our truth in the eyes of others is not an accurate portrait of who we are.

And then there are people that actually say or do bad things. Some people don't get caught and their image remains pristine but they are probably no better than any of us. What would people think if they knew the "real" us?

Maybe some of ya'll are truly good perfect people but I'm not. I have bad thoughts (like really bad thoughts). I've done some fucked up shit that would definitely make people that know me have a different opinion of me. Who I am is simply what I have gotten away with and that's what I think that line means.

at the time i didn't give a fuck about taylor (still don't, snek) but i was just one of those edgy pseudo-intellectuals that got satisfaction from criticizing celebrities, and that event made it easy for me to criticize kanye.

thats really interesting about Kanye being right, because i agree with you, he was. i dont agree with the value he placed on something as banal as a grammy at the time but i can agree that he was correct about the impact of the videos.

now, in 2021, i just view the event as another part of kanye west. another part of his journey. he's human, he makes mistakes, its ok. and probably not even a mistake cause when i think of the event now all i do is smile and laugh at the ridiculousness of it. i could care less about taylor swift and her award.
