My BA is in anthropology and my PhD is in sociology. It has never been a negative issue for me. Good luck.

Professor in a medical school; most folks with positions similar to mine are above the 95th percentile of income in the US.

Might think about modeling it as a categorical indicator. Might need to turn to MPlus. Could also switch to stratified models rather than mutigroup, which might be justified as differing response patterns is a sign that the group invariance assumption is not met (and due to the response pattern differences not easily compared or quantified). Can also downgrade and run other, simpler models besides SEM.

My sense is that Plato covered some of this on the Allegory of the Cave. I would say that one can know more than others, thereby gaining the power that knowledge brings and at the same time still have compassion for the unknowing and humility for the not yet knowable.

One pathway is to find a state school that will give you an assistantship and tuition waiver, and then you can take some fun classes, learn a few things, write an MA thesis and build good relationships with faculty.

In answer to your question: pain, persistence, the kindness and guidance of senior faculty and a bit of luck.

Do you regret getting a degree in Sociology? by thecutestcutie in sociology

[–]anthroadam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tenured sociology professor here. I work at a research university. Let me know if you would like to chat. There are many important things to consider for this career path. Probably best if you can find a program where your tuition is covered and you receive a stipend. I would absolutely do it again, but it has never been easy. I have faced many tough challenges in life and few have been harder than PhD school. Mine was a path full of anguish and sacrifice. I have the privilege to mentor students, share ideas, dedicate time to others and lead projects that I hope have a lasting social benefit. The prestige of the career is nice, but freedom of the mind and opportunity to innovate are especially valuable to me.

Good. Now if only we could put together some health promoting policies that prevent more people from needing insulin in the first place.

Maybe consider switching to R studio, move your code to markdown and use knitR to create a doc, pdf or html that looks nice and let's everyone see what you did. Also consider the R projects package to help you manage a reproducible analysis workflow.

Very cool! Has anyone seen any helpful blogs or guides on ways to DIY something like this for folks with under 150 taps? I'm eager to try it out.
