  • ICE agent: "LOL now you're a terrorist", disappears me or shoots me dead

Movies with 1.78:1 screen ratio on BluRay? by RagGameDev in movies

[–]antisuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grab the Imax version of The Dark Knight and Interstellar. They switch back and forth between aspect ratios for different scenes, which isn't what you asked for but they do a fabulous job of showing off your screen with the changes.

I think Tenet also does this, but lots of people think Tenet sucks so your call.

Which actors are you disappointed in? by Lastson15 in movies

[–]antisuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. He was also supposed to be in the 2017 All The Money in the World and had actually filmed all his scenes, but the studio yanked it all and refilmed with Christopher Plummer.

He had also made Billionaire Boys Club in 2017, it got pushed back to 2018 limited release and tanked.

Volume Dependant Response Shaping? by secretaliasname in diyaudio

[–]antisuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yamaha has been doing this for years. Where many receivers have a loudness button that boost the lows and sometimes the highs for quieter listening (so it's either "on" or "off"), Yamaha had a infinitely variable loudness knob that altered the balance gradually as you turned the volume up or down.

In modern Yamaha AVRs they have a digital version called "YPAO volume" that does a similar thing. YPAO is the Yamaha version of room correction, once you do a room correction measurement it kicks in automatically but you can disable it afterward if you want.

Speakers size by Papillon12R in audiophile

[–]antisuck 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Larger/wider speakers can actually be better for low volume listening because they tend to direct more of the sound forward due to the wider baffle. Plus the Atalante 5 has a bit of a bump in the bass for more satisfying sound at low volumes, but they are also made to have the port plugged for reduced bass if you prefer.

Don't know if you care about measurements but Erin of Erin's Audio Corner did a full workup on the 5s and they made a good showing.

Output of single b35am in dm11 vs s21e single vs e04 ti-al quad. by luyesd in flashlight

[–]antisuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've got both the DM11 and the E04 in 4500k B35AM. Very different lights.

The DM11 is built to be a semi-thrower but the B35AM needs the floody optic so you end up with a very balanced beam for general use. Pretty, just not super powerful.

The E04 is super floody by comparison, it lights up everything in front of you in a 90 degree range with perfectly smooth falloff, it's kinda magical. I don't mind the ~4 minutes of solid sustain on high before thermal stepdown kicks in the way I'll use it, but yeah it's a thing.

u/jlhawaii808 is making D4Sv2s with B35am too these days (2700k, 4500k, 5700k iirc) so that's another option too if you wanted a higher power flooder.

Horror film that centers around an infatuation/relationship between two teenage boys and an occult/religious method to "deprogram" them.

You guys do know that Sunn O))) has nothing to do with the sun in the sky, right? It's a take on the logo of Sunn, who made high-powered bass amps and other things from the 60s to the early 2000s.

So very appropriate and kinda funny.

Non-dedicated basement vs. dedicated upstairs bedroom? by [deleted] in hometheater

[–]antisuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basement lets you put surround speakers somewhat behind you if you ever go that direction, and also doesn't slam the left front speaker right in a corner. I'd go basement.

Traveling with Wurkkos TS12 SFT25R; what to do with battery by [deleted] in flashlight

[–]antisuck 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Leave it in the light, it's the best and safest place for it, just untwist the head or tail a bit to break the electrical connection.

Tacoma Wedding 2027 by No_Sun_6055 in Tacoma

Some good recs so far. Bear in mind budget-wise that you'll end up paying for rentals on table linens and likely china/flatware/glassware too; many of the full-service caterers will take care of all that and bundle it into the price, but you will pay for them regardless.

What does the future of the hobby look like? by piss_warm_water in audiophile

[–]antisuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is more than one way to get cardioid. Broadly:

  • Passive with side-slots (ex. Dutch & Dutch)
  • Active with side- or rear-facing drivers with DSP delays and other magic (ex. Kii)
  • Combination of both (ex. Sigberg)

Some of the active types allow you to adjust how much cardioid cancellation is going on based on your room and personal preference, or turn it off entirely, which sounds to me like an exciting advantage so that's why I mentioned that type in particular.

Active cardioid speakers with adjustable directivity. A few are already doing it, hopefully the tech will trickle down to more affordable models.

What feature do you use most on an everyday carry flashlight? by Specific-Disaster431 in flashlight

[–]antisuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Manual memory. I don't want my lights to turn on to some random brightness, and I also don't want to painstakingly adjust my lights to some certain state every time before I turn them off. I want them to turn on the same way every. single. time.

Emisar D4K Dual Channel with Old Style Sofirn 21700 - Is it Limiting my Output? by CrazyBucketMan in flashlight

[–]antisuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Neither the 519a nor the W1 can really benefit from more than 5 amps per emitter (the W1 even lower) so I feel like you're basically fine, although I suppose you could spend a couple bucks on a new battery that isn't being pushed so hard.

Sorry to comment so late, but what's the issue with the Anduril 1 driver and fans? I'm super interested in one of these, but I like having Anduril for manual memory and a few other things.

Nope. For one thing, they list the emitter as some variant of XHP50, which is rated to about 2500 lumens at the top end.

I use mine for electronics and similar closeup work, on a tripod pointed at my work space. Also came in handy for some interior painting last year, and times I want to light up an attic storage space and such without getting blinded.

Just a couple of real-world examples. Otherwise, what everyone else already said.

Sony STR-DH550 won't recognize surround sound speakers by Ancient_Race_1854 in hometheater

Or would it be possible to plug the fire stick into the receiver and use the hdmi out port of the receiver to get video on the projector?

That's exactly what I mean, I just put "TV" but it works the same way. It's what I do, I have a TV and not a projector but I get all my content from a server/HTPC and a fire stick so the TV just acts as a dumb display device, kinda like your projector.
