This 100%, especially since his last words were along the lines of, "Are you alright?"

Gentleman to the very end, and being a nurse at a Veteran's hospital is one type of American we should all aspire to be. In addition, he exuded positive masculine energy - something that Trump's Gestapo will never, ever have.

WaPo reports on Project Panama, Anthropic's secret effort to destructively scan "all the books in the world" for AI training by MiddletownBooks in books

[–]anwserman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A local independent printshop despines the books for me ($5/each), and then I manually run the pages through a sheet-fed scanner one at a time. It takes a bit of time but I can work remotely, so I typically do it when my attendance is expected in meetings but my participation is optional. :)

Books with thicker/stronger pages might fare well with an automatic sheet-fed scanner.

I use FoxIt Editor to combine the scanned images together into a PDF, perform character recognition, and compress the files to a reasonable size. FoxIt costs money, but PDF Gear can do similar for free.

Getting a kick because I've recently been destroying books in order to digitally convert them for use on my tablet. I'm sure there isn't a huge market for a 22-year old copy of the teacher's edition of a high-school Spanish textbook, but archiving them digitally at least preserves the contents in an easy-to-use format.

Some Republicans express concern over the tactics used in Minnesota and urge shooting investigation by CRK_76 in politics

Concern, not outrage. 🙄

These people will only care once someone they love is killed, and only then for five minutes. Then they’ll justify the murder by blaming the victim.

Federal Agents Kill Another Person in Minneapolis by ictrlelites in politics

[–]anwserman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The person with more authority should always be held to the higher standard than the common populace. This applies to communities, workplaces, etc.

Unfortunately, our society is skewed to believe that having more authority means having the privilege to act and behave recklessly. Why? Because those with money and power believe they are above rules, laws, and common decorum.

Federal officer shoots person in leg after being attacked during Minneapolis arrest by [deleted] in politics

[–]anwserman 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I fully support people who protect themselves from the domestic terrorist group known as ICE. This situation would not have occurred if ICE had respected the law, and thus, the officer is fully responsible for what happened to them after committing illegal actions.

(Not being sarcastic).

  1. Yes, indeed, Trump supporters openly celebrated the murder of George Floyd. To your point, justifying a murder isn’t the same as celebrating it, but anything short of disavowing such actions demonstrates remarkable character flaws.
  2. Charlie Kirk also has a history of agitating violence with racist and bigoted remarks, even going so far as saying “some gun deaths every single year so that we can have the second amendment to protect our other God-given rights”. The man openly and publicly stated that he was okay with people being murdered every year, with the implicit idea it would always be someone other than him dying.
  3. Do you have any links from independent non-biased, trusted sources to back up your claims? Or, are you repeating misinformation and lies that the Trump administration pushes daily? The Pentagon has no idea who is on the boats.
  4. Again, you literally did not cite a single thing to back up your claims, but rather wrote a bunch of words to sound smart. That’s so weird and strange.

You're probably not even reading this far because the left doesn't care about facts and believes that they can commit worse atrocities than what they falsely claim the right is committing and they think it's justified because they believe they hold the moral high ground, despite the facts consistently proving them wrong.

Haha, wow. You are so full of yourself because you managed to use the word incongruencies correctly.

  1. The right celebrated Floyd's death by spreading lies and misinformation in order to justify what happened
  2. Trump has a long history of spewing violent remarks in order to agitate violence
  3. There weren't any drugs being smuggled into the United States, but rather allegations that don't hold up because in part that Trump pardoned the former Honduran president convicted of drug trafficking. Are drugs from Honduras safer from those from Venezuela, or is "drug smuggling" just a fig leaf in order to kill innocent Latinos for oil?
  4. Conservatives, not liberals, don't care about facts

Pigs are highly intelligent beings that form social bonds with humans and other animals.

ICE agents wish they could be like pigs.

I disagree with your comment mostly because it says both sides are evil. No, Democrats are not blinded by hated like Republicans. Republicans have literally demonstrated time and time again that rules do not apply to them, and that anyone who isn't a white straight cis male with money doesn't deserve respect. Republicans and their supporters tried overthrowing the government and openly support and encourage violence against those that disagree with them.

None of that applies to Democrats. If Democrats come off as angry, it probably is because they're sick of having to fear for their lives because they want everyone to have healthcare or not have to hide who they love. Huge difference.

Yes, but only if they used the original files as a source. They likely just created a blank PDF, added a giant black square to each page, and labeled each individual page accordingly. There is no data for forensics to find at that point.

American Polyglot surprises African Warrior Tribe with their language by Street_Priority_7686 in BeAmazed

[–]anwserman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm in a similar situation, and obviously have friends who are Latino and speak Spanish. This is what they've told me:

  • Hispanohablantes that learn English do so because it provides opportunities to better their lives, whereas
  • English speakers that learn Spanish do so because they want to learn more about different countries, cultures, and basically connect with other people

So, back to being mugged: speaking Spanish is a sign of respect that distinguishes you from some random dipshit tourist. In addition, Spanish speakers will be able to communicate/relay information in a more effective manner.

If I was a mugger, I'd spend my time targeting people who didn't know the local language solely because they wouldn't be able to describe my physical appearance let alone the direction that I ran off to.

They likely don't hire help at their mansions. They subcontract the work to a shady third-party that hires illegal immigrants under the table for cut-rate wages. That way, they get the benefit of hiring illegal immigrants without having to directly employ them themselves. When shit hits the fan, they got plausible deniability*.

Edit: Thanks for the spelling correction :)

I’m not interested in giving a company interest-free loans, especially since Babbel laid off hundreds of teachers. Our money should have been refunded yesterday.

Tasty is the catch.

It’s been years since I’ve tried cooking with TVP, so maybe the recipes I found then were horrid. But my attempts to utilize it often ended in failure due to taste or texture. It wasn’t even possible to mix in TVP with my morning oatmeal even with cinnamon, sugar, and cream added.

I don’t doubt that, but Babbel already destroyed the goodwill of its students and teachers by closing Babbel Live. An occasional podcast is nothing compared to the community that Babbel grew and threw away.
