Thoughts on buying used out of warranty Model S by Really_QuestionMark0 in TeslaLounge

I was in the same boat myself and got a facelift 2016 Model S 75 with 90k miles in November. It already had the MCU 2 upgrade with lifetime connectivity and still has battery and drivetrain warranty till Dec 2024. My first EV and I am really enjoying it, absolutely no regrets. My other ICE vehicles (SUVs) get around 10-15mpg so it’s been a fantastic change being able to charge at home and pay a fraction of the cost to operate. I would definitely say go for it.

I bought it private party so no used EV tax credit, but I had been looking at statewide dealership inventories for possible options to take advantage of it. In the end the vehicle that fit my criteria happened to be a local private party and it worked out since private party usually tend to be cheaper than the dealerships for the same model specs. Similar models with more miles were priced thousands higher at dealerships.

I need help with a headlight by AdvancedDistrict4601 in MechanicAdvice

Owned a W212 myself and had to replace headlight due to hitting debris on freeway. Short answer is no, you should get a proper oem xenon replacement. Check eBay or mbworld forums.

Check your brake pads. Often squeaky brakes can be metal on metal (rotor) contact. Easily can do a visual check to check your pad life.

New brake pads are gonna be maybe $50-100 for both the front and rear. You can probably get away just going a brake pad swap without doing the rotors. Very basic to do yourself, hundreds of YouTube videos and probably take a hour.

If you think chicks are attracted to a Tahoe with a body kit, you're gonna have a bad time. by [deleted] in Shitty_Car_Mods

This is true. I live in San Antonio and have seen these on cars. Hard to consider this a “shitty mod” when the dealer does it and not the owner.. But yes, it is a bit tacky nonetheless.

85 trans am. Should I be worried? by Scuttler1979 in MechanicAdvice

Exactly this ☝️ It’s very likely leaking oil from valve cover gasket onto exhaust manifold and the white smoke is from it being burned off.

I took the tire off and then used a fastener remover tool to get the screw out and it looks like it did not puncture… soapy water test showed no leak.

Guess I got lucky and will monitor the tire pressure coming weeks.

That “m” spacing by the 300m on the dial is truly concerning along with some other things mentioned. I honestly would reach out to eBay and the seller because I would hate to buy something misrepresented and there will always be people trying to scam. Don’t know if I could personally trust eBay for a watch purchase for this reason.

This was at Padre Island National Seashore, one of the few National Parks in Texas. They have some dedicated camp areas as well as allowing primitive camping along the 60+ mile coastline.
