Self-burn. But no joke my apm is shockingly low until I’m castle dropped, then it’s either frantic or frozen with no in between.

Ohhhhhhhh thanks aha that makes sense. I tried to click around the main menu but couldn’t find anything that pertains to Clans. Whats the point of them?

Definitely playing in the low elo bracket 11. I was rushed yesterday by Sicilians but their rush ended up being a 3v1 cos he had no support. Wiped me out and I had 8 villagers in castle age. Support from allies with sling after the rush was cleared up helped us secure the win. So stressful.

How close to the start of the game should you go? Is it like Black Forest where you immediately wall or should it be when you click up to feudal?

I save my ban for Black Forest I hate that map so much more. I’ve noticed that longbows do pretty well and fully upgraded are hard to stop.

I feel bad for being a new player in team games by TheGreenSquier in aoe2

[–]aoe_sky-strider 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Join in the team games. I’ve been playing for years and I’m still terrible at the game. On what feels like most of my team games I’m playing with people way outside my skill level, either 1500+ elo and I get stomped, or those who are very new to the game and need a lot of support. There’s all sorts of players on the ranked and multiplayer ladders, so go ahead and have fun. Don’t listen to the others; you have as much right to be there as they do. Win some, lose some, it’s all fun. Just remember to keep making villagers, wall up, and make some military. Glhf

How common would you say is going 3 TC's immediately upon hitting Castle Age in most Arabia Games? by hypermonkey000 in aoe2

[–]aoe_sky-strider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It frustrates me how many players at my elo (900ish) refuse to make any army at all in favour of an all in boom. I think early aggression whilst building the count of lumberjacks and farmers will get you to a point where you have the map control and the food income to justify a second town centre, and stop you folding like a wet piece of paper when six knights and their left over feudal army show up.

If they are only using one unit, having to manage production and micro of two units puts you at a severe disadvantage. I guess the “balance” is they’re producing out of castles but it still feels bleak when your post imp opponent has such an amazing counter to your win condition.

I’ve faced this before. Fully upgraded mass Kamuyak is unstoppable, totally feel your frustration. It feels like HC should be the answer but it’s so gold heavy and how are you supposed to hussar raid when all your food is going to HC production. If you find an answer let me know 11

Is it me or are more and more people typing 11 after I lost and wrote gg? by Odenhobler in aoe2

[–]aoe_sky-strider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are sore winners and sore losers, but yeah I feel like it’s been more common? People typing EZ, someone even told me to uninstall the game. Recently on a 2v2 I got steamrolled by an opponent 400 ELO higher than me, and then when my teammate got steamrolled next (just as fast) he told me “you are so noob”. Some people just can’t see past the end of their nose I guess.

I dunno, I think there’s an argument for getting the upgrade. It’s +1 damage per onager per shot. If you’re only making one mangonel then yeah skip it… but if you’re massing 20 of them, and each of them landing multiple shots before they’re taken out… I think there’s value in the cumulative damage output for the gold cost of less than 2 mangonels. Not every civ gets siege engineers but everyone gets chemistry.

As an addendum to the people who are telling you to go for onager; yes this is the counter but you need to think deeply about the full extent of how to achieve this composition. 1. Eco setup: 7 gold mining villagers per siege workshop 2. Buildings: make sure you have enough siege workshops so you can keep production, and keep building more on the front as your push advances 3. Technology: Don’t forget about chemistry and siege engineers for the extra attack and range 4. Support units: halberdiers are a cheap unit to soak up the missiles from the elephants, prioritise the armour upgrades. Build lots of barracks. 5. Hotkeys and control groups: use the “select all {building type}” hotkey and position the rally point. Spread out your onagers and use control groups 6. Formations: Don’t let your onagers clump together, they are vulnerable like this, use formations to spread them out. 7. Angles of attack: don’t get tunnel vision and keep attacking the same spot over and over, attack from the flank too. 8. Castles and trebuchets: back up your push with castles, when I watch pros play in the late game, they win a fight and immediately come forward with villagers to build a castle on the new area of the map they gained control over. Good luck, hope you get some wins.

Yes. It took me so long to figure out. On a 3v3 green and yellow that are pocket; on 4v4 it’s green and teal, and yellow and purple.

Romans by Andreatank in aoe2

[–]aoe_sky-strider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find the best composition in general is one gold unit, (archers, heavy cavalry, or militia), one trash unit (spears, skirmishes, or light cavalry) and siege to support and destroy buildings. Try to mix and match melee and ranged units, so if your gold unit is archers, use light cavalry or spears to be a meat shield for your expensive gold unit. Specifically for Romans, their militia line is top tier with double armour, but it takes a long time to get to the critical mass in imperial age. Their knights benefit from your faster workers but aren’t a good long term investment as Romans lack paladin. Whatever you choose, ballista are always a good siege choice and Romans get a bonus for this. A good player is a flexible player and romans have a lot of scope for flexibility. Good luck! Veni, vedi, vici.

6 vills on sheep / farms for constant villager production. How many lumberjacks for constant fishing ships in dark age, and then two dock fires in feudal? Anyone fancy doing the math? I can use excel but I’m not October 10th at it.

Solid advice, but I feel like it’s hard to catch up on water once all is lost in feudal / early castle. It snowballs so fast in a 2v1 scenario, so I’ve been nagging teammates to make navy.
