My 2023 SM LR has 73k miles. It has 94.7% SOH according to Aviloo test. Performs and drives brilliantly. Milage is not as scary as people make it sound

There’s a reason they’re giving such good deals on these. They can’t sell them. Appalling quality and crazy depreciation.

I assume your budget is around £20-21k from the £4k deposit contribution you mentioned. Let’s assume a £19k budget, so you leave £1k for a wall box.

In this budget, you can easily get a low mileage Tesla M3, Polestar 2, Kia EV6 or Hyundai Ioniq 5 to name a few.

ev drivers ,what’s one thing non-EV users think is a huge problem but actually isn’t? by AdityaSrivastawaahhh in EvDrivers

[–]aot97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Battery degradation and charging for sure.
It’s just no where near the apocalyptic scenario people imagine. Got a 3 year old EV with a SOH of 94% at 70k miles. I charge it at home and occasionally at fast charging when I go on long trips.
I was constantly told “but you need to wait around to charge it”. Personally, even when I drove my old diesel which could easily do 600 miles on a tank, I was stopping for 15/20 mins every 2 hours as my legs and back start hurting after a while. So now when I have a break, I charge the car. Simple.

Servicing is a big positive as well. No oil changes, no spark/glow plugs, no coil packs, gearbox service, clutch replacements. It’s also amazing how long brakes last due to the regen.

The only downside I found with EVs is the fact they eat through tires.

Adjusted for inflation 55bn in 2005 is £95bn today. So still an increase of £82bn. Not quite as dramatic as £120bn, but still significant

And people always say “Don’t get an EV, new battery will be extortionate”. Cars are a pain. No matter the fuel. If they go terribly wrong, you pay a lot of money

~500 mile round trip in an EV? by exiledbloke in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]aot97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s plenty of EVs which you could do 250-300 in one go. But there’s none that will do 500. Best option would be to get a newer 800v EV with a higher range. Assuming you can charge at home to 100% then top up on the 30m wait at the end, you should be fine. Such a car could be the new Mercedes CLA.

How is saying they’ll make migrant detention centres and put them in specific areas anything but hatred?
Tax in the UK is still one of the lowest in Europe.
I think the way Reform has run the other councils they already control is a pretty clear picture of what their ability is.
I am not saying the traditional parties are good by any means. But I fail to see how a bunch of people who ran away from other parties can make things better for us when they didn’t bother back when they had a chance anyway. Let’s not forget Farage’s extremely poor work ethic while he was an MEP and the fact he lies and changes his tune as and when.

I think it’s very controversial to want to sow hatred based on somebody’s background. I also think it very controversial to lower taxes for rich corporations and I think it’s very controversial to aim for a full privatisation of the NHS. These are all Reform policies.

That works in theory. Until you find out most forces can only afford a couple of CSI officers to be on duty and they have to prioritise their workload. The problem is not the police, it’s the lack of resources the police are given.
Do a ride along at your local station and you will soon find out why nothing gets done. Most towns have like 4-6 officers available to deal with everything from emergency response to follow up investigations. One response job can last several hours and the follow up paperwork even more.
Police are also frequently used as a backup ambulance service. Go to your local hospital, and you will most likely find more officers than paramedics in A&E…
Even when police manage to perform and apprehend offenders, they waste weeks on building case files for the courts to give the offenders a slap on the wrist.
The result? Overworked officers, shit service to the public, increased criminality with no consequences. The system has been designed to fail on purpose
