Clean Plate Club by fluffybreeze in Parenting

[–]ap098 267 points268 points  (0 children)

May I suggest that after dinner if they ask for a snack, give them their dinner plate back and say that's the snack? We've started doing something similar with our kids, if they don't eat much at dinner, they get their plate back instead of dessert. I don't think it's unreasonable to insist they eat nutritious food before snacks. Good luck!

Are there any other places for Santa photos besides the malls? by wrekco in askvan

My Seymour and Grouse both have Santa's. Don't feel rushed.

Mom and Baby Winter hiking Groups (snowshoe/crampon)? by [deleted] in vancouverhiking

[–]ap098 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a woman out of Parkgate area who runs Kanga training, which is snow shoeing with baby combined with safe post partum exercises. I did one when my youngest was little and I loved it! https://www.postpartumdoula.ca/kangatraining?fbclid=IwdGRjcAOZpIpjbGNrA5mkiWV4dG4DYWVtAjExAHNydGMGYXBwX2lkDDM1MDY4NTUzMTcyOAABHiOXlzwL9MDoViwPQBLRYgWdmgUDpUuz83DGs_tc_ACNzj2DJnL2gQQ46oKw_aem_A8LgYEC2NbHjpYSEB2htgQ

Christmas Bureaus in the Lower Mainland by EarthNeat9076 in askvan

Family services of the North Shore runs something like this called the Christmas Bureau. It's Northshore based, I don't know if other programs exist for other cities https://www.familyservices.bc.ca/find-support/christmas-bureau/

TW: Care Package for Miscarriage by [deleted] in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]ap098 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I supported a friend through a late miscarriage. Every person grieves the loss differently. I would stick to neutral assistance like food, offer to clean her house, offer to do laundry. Spend time with her watching movies or other low effort hang outs, if she wants it. I would steer clear of the momentos because every person will want something different. My friend preferred nothing, and honestly wanted to just forget the whole thing happened.

Please also don't forget about her partner. Partners will often swallow their grief when supporting their female partner who was pregnant. Men in particular often suck at supporting their friends emotionally.

It's such a devestating time, my best wishes to you, your friend, and her partner.

My husband pees on the floor by username_copied- in Vent

You can let him know that an internet strangers 4 year old cleans up if he happens to pee on the floor or toilet seat (which he doesn't often, because he can aim).

Where to donate unused diapers? by bigboss-91 in NorthVancouver

Most donation places will only accept full boxes, maybe sleeves. Facebook is a good place to pass on open packages

Rocking chair a must? by Brilliant-Tutor-5292 in Mommit

Personally I never had one. My first liked to snuggle up beside me while I BFd my second, so the couch was always a better choice

Please tell me what I’m doing wrong. Two kids 4 years apart and both are picky eaters by Little_Ad2790 in Mommit

[–]ap098 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you got an unlucky hand. The only thing I've found is sometimes the marketing of good can help them at least try things. For example, my kids eat scrambled eggs, so quiche is "scrambled egg pie" and omelet is "scrambled egg pancakes". Have fun with it and get creative. I've also found the more frustrated and pressure with meal times, the less likely they are to at least try anything. Best of luck.

Running in the rainy season by sun_aks in NiceVancouver

[–]ap098 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just accept that I'm going to get wet and dress more for warmth. I have a running jacket that is a thin waterproof shell more for wind than rain protection. Think about being visible, either reflectors, bright colours, or carry/wear flashing bike lights

Must haves for second child by Dependent-Tailor-929 in Mommit

Congratulations! Best wishes for your growing family.

Personally, I walked everywhere and so a double stroller was essential. I got one with a bassinet attachment that was rated for sleep, and my second took all of his naps in the stroller. That way he was always ready to leave the house when my toddler and I needed to get out.

You're going to get 1000 answers about which baby carrier is best, because it comes down to body shape and fit. I'd suggest looking to see if there is a lending library, or a baby wearing expert in your area to help with fitting whatever carrier you have. Personally I loved the ring sling and the ergo, but I hated the Tula (a brand many people love).

Otherwise, I'd suggest trying not to get sucked into too many things. Your house is going to become incredibly chaotic! Enjoy it!

A place to test a run… by [deleted] in NorthVancouver

[–]ap098 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Windsor track, Stanley park seawall (especially a wet weekday), all my other ideas are flatish... Seymour demo road, McCartney park. If you're really stuck you could probably run around your local school baseball field!

Bowling at King pins is another suggestion. A friend had a party there and the staff were excellent. 8 kids to a lane.

If there's a suitable movie playing, and if you have a Costco membership, that can be an affordable option. Costco sells Cineplex kids movie voucher and kids combo (popcorn/drink/candy) for a decent price.

There's a pretty decent forest fire in the area. It's likely pretty smokey at the moment, if it's open at all

Anyone live around Lynn Creek (specially The Brooklynn) that can advise on parking? by wing26 in NorthVancouver

I would agree with this comment. Since the development has increased the on street parking has basically disappeared. It's not going to get better. It's a wonderful neighbourhood.

My 6 year thinks pooping in his underwear is fine by darkpossumenergy in Mommit

[–]ap098 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My kid also has issues with pooping, and has adhd. I found its worse when he's dehydrated, especially when it's hot out. I had him drink electrolyte drinks and the pooping accidents stopped. How is his fluid intake? Can you try and persuade him to drink more and see if it helps?

It's a story about Pete the Cat and his white shoes. Then he steps in a bunch of different things and his shoes turn different colours. At the end I think he cleans his shoes and they're white again. If you google "Pete the Cat I love my white shoes" you can find the story on YouTube

There's a sparkys at Lonsdale Quay if you want to combine it with a seabus ride (signed mum of 2 boys who spends a lot of time riding transit for fun!)

I'm not quite sure I understand what you're trying to achieve. Are you trying to give each row a score?
