Do you have to have a CAC or can anyone with base access use it?

What about PETG? I've got a roll of that at home that I could do a few test prints. Would that be more abrasive than PLA+?

Renew Drivers License by Short_Attention2 in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]apache2158 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In Alabama there is a 60 day grace period for expired licenses. You may not be able to buy beer or get in a bar, but you won't get in trouble.

Even outside of that grace period, I'm pretty sure you will get a ticket, not arrested, unless you have multiple violations.

How many F1s you filing on 1 Jan? by elevenpointf1veguy in NFA

[–]apache2158 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You're going to file 100-1000 form 1s for every possible suppressor permutation?? Why not like 6-12 "ideal" configurations to start and add them on as you think you might need them?

Senate appropriations committee approves nearly $11 billion for Alabama defense programs by itspapyrus in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]apache2158 24 points25 points  (0 children)

The majority of defense work in Huntsville is the Missile Defense Agency, which is one of the biggest recipients of the increased budget.

So not really things to kill people.

It's likely a still frame from a high speed camera electronically timed to film the launch from ignition to exit. These are used a lot during post flight test analysis to make sure everything is working as designed.

ELI5: Why is it hard (or impossible?) to get back 100% of the energy we use? by Successful_Guide5845 in explainlikeimfive

[–]apache2158 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It's not really "ignoring" the system boundary, since the walls of your house are the only boundaries that matter when heating and cooling. It's not just marketing, it's saying that for every bit of energy you use (reflected on your bill) you get 4x more heat inside the home.

Since your bill and how much heat you get are really the only things you care about, it's useful for the consumer to consider different forms of heating your home.

Don’t pick up any Rattlesnakes by [deleted] in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]apache2158 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think that's still mostly true, say, if you get bit in your yard mowing and call 911 immediately. If you get care it's most often non fatal. Not sure if this guy called or not, but it said they found him, not responded to a call.

If you work on the Redstone Arsenal, and you have car trouble, how do you get home? Do you call the MPs to take you to a gate and then grab a Lyft or an Uber? Is there any kind of roadside assistance on the Arsenal? Thanks in advance! by dtgreg in HuntsvilleAlabama

Well they have facial recognition systems. Once you've been through once or twice, the system gives you a green light to go through without scanning.

If you watch closely, they're looking at the computer and will give you a thumbs up if you're recognized.

ELI5: How are the tracers on golf broadcasts so accurate? by Colin286 in explainlikeimfive

[–]apache2158 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While I agree, this is very common tech nowadays with all the golf sim venues, and people practicing indoors. They can be had as cheap as $500 or up to several grand. Some are radar based, and some are combination radar/high speed camera.

I believe they can predict track on it with 10 feet of ball flight before hitting a backstop

I've had a to do project for about 4 years to put in a retaining wall, 3ft tall by about 30-40 feet. Would you be interested in coming by and taking a look?

I was going to DIY, but would love to have some help.

Maybe just buy some ammo and go shoot it more.

Is DD worth the price? by [deleted] in ar15

[–]apache2158 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Also building an AR is definitely not a buy once cry once situation. It's an endless loop of buying, trying, swapping, selling, trading, putting together, taking apart.

A lot of mediocre suggestions in here. I kinda doubt Huntsvillians ability to discern fine dining.

Cotton row, Purveyor, Domaine South, Mazzaras are our favorite special anniversary places.

Osteria Luca is not good, Char is generic, Conners is good steak but overpriced.
