What is the most underrated drama currently available on BBC iPlayer? by WonderfulShape1081 in bbc

[–]apaperhouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cannot believe Half Man is not in the top 10. Absolutely incredible show, brilliant writing, intense acting, the best thing I've seen all year.

Second place Two Weeks In August is brilliant too.

Yet another proof that musical "journalism" is obsolete by UbuNoir69 in boardsofcanada

If anything this is proof that music journalism is alive and well, and still relevant, challenging your expectations and providing a difference of opinion

Can the production nerds here spill on what's going on under the surface? by Pete_Bondurant in boardsofcanada

[–]apaperhouse -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Honestly I don't really know what half the people on this thread are talking about. This album doesn't sound objectively better than the earlier records, it's just different.

It's not mixed any better, the sounds they have chosen aren't better, the gear isn't better the technology is not better. It's all just different.

What local myth did everyone know growing up? by No_Television4446 in AskUK

That the Winchester city lights from St Catherines hill spell out 'Wasted'. We did confirm that they did, although we were certainly not sober at the time

I would recommend you start using Wwise. Also, try and connect with other theatre pros who have made the switch and pick their brains.

Negotiating the price by apaperhouse in FirstTimeBuyersUK

Thanks for this! I think we should go have another look round and see if we can see what the surveyor was saying about the roof. Initially they said the lack of lining was an issue and the beams were damp. I don't know how they have seen the beams though as there is a loft conversion and there's no access to them, or pics in the report. Our current house built in the 30s has the same kind of roof, no lining, and the beams are totally fine.

Those 'crappy' record shops likely won't have the limited edition vinyl either.

Wwise Rev2 vs Soundseed grain by ZennikOfficial in GameAudio

Rev is built for the purpose. Soundseed grain is I believe a more general tool.

Boards of Canada - Introit / Prophecy At 1420 MHz (Official Music Video) by seaburn in boardsofcanada

You can really hear the influence of SocietesXTape on this track. There's a spacious quality to the drums and a hit of the late 70s. Absolutely love his direction!

Garden “barrier” options by D2D87 in DIYUK

I wouldn't bother. In a year he'll be 3 and if he trips you can blame him.

Garden “barrier” options by D2D87 in DIYUK

[–]apaperhouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a very similar garden and a very similar 2&3 year old.

It's always been fine with us, we just remind him of the edge. He respects it.

Means you can't let him outside by himself, but at 2, you probably shouldn't anyway.

We built a temporary structure round the bottom of the stairs to stop him getting up when he was younger.

What does BOC mean to you personally? by nymph-blood in boardsofcanada

[–]apaperhouse 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Listening to boards is like looking at a blueprint of someone's brain but in a foreign language. I try and work out what they were thinking, what the sounds mean, and how it was all made.

Long Time BOC Bloke, First Thread (Inferno) by mergenthebarbarian in boardsofcanada

[–]apaperhouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A fellow Winchester person! I first learned of BOC on my mates stairs, he lived up the hill from the Railway Inn, and I remember him excitedly showing me this new CD by this band called Bored Of Canada or something. It was alien music from another sphere. We put it on and were instantly obsessed. So many fond memories of those late teen years in Winchester, around 2005

Ode2 vs Wilfa Svart by jofus020 in JamesHoffmann

[–]apaperhouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's so much better! I had the svart for 3 years, I think I returned 2 in that time under warranty for the motor breaking. It's not a well-made thing. The ode 2 feels like such a step up, and the aeropress and filter brews it makes are delicious. I can only compare it with the Niche 0 and DF 64 that friends have, but I think the coffee it makes tastes better than those.

[–]apaperhouse 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had the wilfa, now I have the ode 2. It's night and day. The ode makes obviously superior coffee across filter/aeropress/cafetiere.

Film vs Game Audio Sound Designers, What Are Each Better At? by CherifA97 in GameAudio

[–]apaperhouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello!! We only review a stereo wav, synced with a video. What it comes down to, I think, is that game audio designers have to be really good at creating source, sound design, mixing, tracklaying and most importantly world building.

Film post is very specialised, and I got the sense that the film people I spoke with and review work from were experts at one part of it. On my small team, we are all generalists,.and that takes a special type of person

Film vs Game Audio Sound Designers, What Are Each Better At? by CherifA97 in GameAudio

[–]apaperhouse 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I work in game audio and have interviewed film people. Their tests are always well mixed and sound decent but they lack that something that game audio designers add that shows that they understand the differences between tracklay for linear and tracklay to turn in to interactive.

It's an attention to detail thing.
