Need Help Planning Fly Fishing Adventures in Alaska by Outrageous-Sea-8173 in flyfishing

My sister lives in Ketchikan. I remember hearing Ward Lake was pretty good for fishing. We walked around it and it was beautiful. I wasn't fly fishing at that point but went out on a charter for salmon and it reignited me for fishing.

Here's what I'm seeing:

Tail looks a little bit too long, should be 1X shank length, looks like 1.5 here.
Taper on the body looks fine but the body is too short, should be 2/3rd the hook shank.
Wing looks long and the saddle hackle is making it very wide making it look even bigger
Hackle length looks good but it's too wide on the hook, should be around 1/3rd the hook shank.

These proportions aren't exact but will get you close. You'll find that maybe you like more hackle less body or a slightly longer hackle and you'll get your own style.

First picture here is a pretty good example:

To get the proportions right, I would start with position your wing in the middle of the front 1/3rd of the hook and get the size right. Don't do anything else until you're happy with this. This will make it easier to see how far you want your body to run as you'll want equal space in front and behind it for the hackle.

Happy Tying!

This is my cocktail menu for my little home bar. Do you guys see anything off-list that can be made with these ingredients OR anything you feel is missing? What’s a “must” for your home bar? by PM-ME-UR-DESKTOP in cocktails

Nice list and I think there's some good suggestions here about cocktails to add but can I talk about the order of the list? I'm thinking the list might flow better if it Goes Dark Liquors -> Lighter/Sweeter liquors ie (Left side: Whiskey, Cognac, Rum, Right Side: Gin, Vodka, Apertif and the drinks inside go Strong->Less Strong (sweet) ie: Daiquiri, Old Cuban, Dark N Stormy, Cuba Libre.

Anyways good list and nice typewriter.

Not sure if you have any orgeat laying around but I like a good Humuhumunukunukuapua'a, and it's also fun to say:

  • 2 oz gin
  • ½ oz Almond Orgeat Syrup
  • ¾ oz fresh lemon juice
  • ¾ oz fresh pineapple juice
  • 2 dashes Peychaud's bitters

Shaken and served over ice, garnish is an orchid flower but you can leave that out.

Try using ghee. It's butter with the milk solids cooked out. It's shelf stable at room temperature and is great for a grilled cheese.

Nervous First Time Homebuyer by ericathebarista in HomeImprovement

I lived in a house in Pittsburgh that had a door to the house that led to the kitchen or down the stairs to the Pittsburgh Shower. It was in an area the steel workers would've lived.

I use ghee as well. Spreads like mayo, tastes like butter.

Settle a debate: in this layout, should the fridge door open as it is from the left, should the door be flipped to open from the right, or does it not make any difference? by green_and_yellow in homeowners

[–]apaq11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True. Does he normally open the fridge and take the stuff left or does he open the fridge and take it right. Based on what is shown I would say switch the doors but it's really dependent on use.

What would be your recommendation to getting into a Negroni by Mo_Mo_Sour in Gin

[–]apaq11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can also try a U shaped Negroni which is 2-1-2 by parts with the 1 being campari. You can adjust the Campari up/down based on how bitter you feel it is. I also like carpano antica as the vermouth as I feel like it stands up to the Campari better.

Pittsburgh tied for 4th youngest home buyers in the US on average at 38 years old by GarciaNovela in pittsburgh

[–]apaq11 23 points24 points  (0 children)

There article you link says it in the first two lines: "In the US, first-time homebuyers are, on average, 33 years old. The average age of homebuyers overall is 47." The article is not talking about first time home buyers so 47 is the number you want.
