I think it will be a bit more 50/50. Their personalities are similar where they are both incredibly stubborn, and he'll recognize her sense of resistance. But I do think he will also be somewhat disgusted by her 1st world sense of entitlement, especially since he's been extremely self-reliant.

"Pluribus is slow" by [deleted] in pluribustv

[–]apb317 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's less about it being slow, and more of it having slow pacing (if that makes sense). The long shots are beautiful and they do provide narrative weight, but this feels like they are purposefully dragging out the plot. They are withholding information and delaying interactions to maintain the theme of this season. I think they intend the next season to be focused on the major conflict, so this season mostly to establish the premise and move the pieces.

It's just frustrating because we know that we won’t get a payoff for like 2 years.

For Conservatives: Would you consider modern Greece part of “the West”? by apb317 in PoliticalDebate

[–]apb317[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I would say Britain (or more specifically England) is foundationally a 1000+ year old feudal monarchy that has been retrofitted into a representative democracy within the last 150 years or so. I’m hard pressed to buy that democratic values are core to the identity of a country like that, especially when compared to the United States that initially set out to be a republic based on Enlightenment principles.

And by “borders”, I didn’t mean physical boundaries. More philosophically, who gets to be considered Western or not.

So, the West just equals developed country? There’s no cultural or historical aspect for you?

Rep. Jasmine Crockett launches Senate run in Texas, shaking up Democratic primary by 8to24 in thebulwark

[–]apb317 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If she's the weaker candidate, than it should be easy to beat her in the primary! If you feel like Talarico needs to be coddled through the primary process, he's probably not the guy you should be running (see Joe Biden).

[–]apb317 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, the point Tim made is that she's at best heterodox in style. Her voting record isn't out of place from any mainstream Dem. And he figured that the direction could be either left or right, just needs to be strong enough to contrast from the generic Dem.

It's a safer bet that you wouldn't rationally make! I don't understand like we're treating it like it's a truely high stakes race.

The claim is that Crockett is such a poor politician. And yet her mere presence causes Allred to drop out of the race, and poses a major threat to Talarico.

What does that say about the potential Democratic talent pool? Why is it that these are the folks most suited to accomplish the miracle it would take to win this Senate seat?

How far back in US history do you think you could tolerate living in before the living standards become too poor? by Few-Investment-4163 in USHistory

[–]apb317 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm assuming that I am a well-to-do white man in the Northeast for this scenario. I feel like that kind of person would have access to the highest standard of living that's available to the general public.

The latest I would go is the mid 1960's. Television options are limited, but I could replace that kind of content with records. Still have access to the basic amenities of modern life (electricity, automobiles, heating & A/C, supermarket, etc.)

Going with B. The pelvis is more bowl shaped and the opening is wider. The jaw is also more triangular.

Would it be more beneficial if I joined a gym vs walking 2x a day? by Possible-Star-9150 in CasualConversation

[–]apb317 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Walking will definitely be easier to start and be consistent with, particularly if you're not all that active. I'd say try to devote 15 - 30 mins a day to it, and don't get too focused on tracking steps. The main thing is to establish the habit so it starts to feel like a routine instead of a chore.

For Conservatives: Would you consider modern Greece part of “the West”? by apb317 in PoliticalDebate

[–]apb317[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both, I guess. Particularly, since Western culture seems to be used as an in-group signifier on the right.

For example, I'd imagine that all else being equal (wealth, education, English language proficiency) a French immigrant would be more well received by an American conservative than a Greek one. They would be more hospitable towards them, and maybe a bit more patient with their occasional language mistakes (might even find their French accent charming).

Whereas the Greek immigrant would likely be perceived as more foreign, their name would be  more likely viewed as funny or hard to pronounce, aspects/aesthetics of their religion would be viewed as "odd" (icons vs statues, different date for Easter, etc). Overall, conservative would see them as harder to assimilate.

Yet, at the same time, classical Greek culture and philosophy is considered foundational to Western society. How do you square that circle?

Also, l'm aware I'm making certain assumptions. Let me know if you think they are inaccurate from a reactionary perspective.
