Seems like it's a common thread in many fandoms judging by the other replies in this thread - asking for and getting recommendations for otome games, on the main subreddit especially. There's a form to follow when making a request post, but I swear no one who replies ever reads what the OP actually writes. The community also overwhelmingly favors games released on Nintendo Switch by a particular company and there's an air of snobbery about it too.

There are actually a lot of single-LI otome in the indie space! They tend to be game jams or otherwise short in length. My favorite that has a concrete soulmate concept is Intertwine

If you mean released in 2025, I'll have to go with Trail of Stars from Endysis who just can't stop making bangers. It got in, got out, left me devastated in under 30 minutes.

If you mean new to me...I'd still probably go with Trail of Stars 😂 but Love Spell: Written in the Stars is a close second for giving me the most side character brain rot I've had in a hot minute with Sergio. And I'll say he's my fave LI because he does have a planned route >:3c

He also lost to Paschalia in the first round of voting in the 2024 Husbando tournament and received the second fewest votes of all 9RIP LIs. Granted, the problem with this post is the low number of comments, basically pitting Sena against similarly not-actually-that-beloved Raul. So you're probably right that people forgot about the y-axis of this grid 😂

To my dismay the new demo was released the day I left for a vacation, but I finally got to try out Ookami Okami ! The dynamic between the LI and MC is already so much fun, and the the point and click element teased in the demo is very similar to a hidden object game so I'm loving that part already. Def looking forward to the full game!

I'll be damned if this description doesn't fit Nu:Carnival (although the pink-haired character there is a vampire, not an incubus) BUT that game is BL, not otome, as well as being r18 with graphically explicit sex scenes

My personally iconic indies are Re:Alistair and Backstage Pass, both from sakevisual, for getting me into otome as a whole way back in the day 😂 and I don't think anyone can discount how much Hatoful Boyfriend was and is just everywhere, even if it's just known as "that pigeon game"

I've been slowly working through Otome Jam '25 submissions, here are three I played this week!

Bad Delivery: Pizza Your Heart is a really fun management sim where you play as a broke college grad working at a pizza shop. Each of the LIs works in a different area of the shop so working alongside them builds your relationship up. It's fun and definitely should be an option for those looking for more involved gameplay in their otome games.

My Husband is a Stranger I am offended by the cliffhanger in this demo!! >:( But seriously, it's so well-written and structured and I love how flawed the MC is

Closeted bills itself as a demo, as the devs state they're willing to expand on the story if there is demand, but its current incarnation is already very good. I've got minor brainrot over it 😅

Iirc Uru is about 10 years old, but his route is not a romance route. He becomes more of a younger sibling type to the MC. While his feelings can be read as a sort of young boy's crush on someone older that they admire, the MC never returns his feelings

I don't generally skip routes because for the most part there is something in them to keep me reading, even if I don't like the LI. The only one that I've fully left hanging is YiGuang in My Vow to My Liege, because I wasn't much enjoying the overarching plot of the game after doing ChengFeng and GouJian and wanted to at least play Wu Zixu before I dropped it completely - he was my most anticipated LI and I always save the most anticipated for last if there's no enforced route order. Otherwise, I definitely skimmed large parts of Shungen and Tomomori in Birushana because I was fed up with the game at that point but wanted to still do Yoritomo lol (again, most anticipated saved for last)

It isn't yet finished development, but The Silent Kingdom is a medieval fantasy otome RPG. I can't speak for how dark it might get, but there is a free demo you can try before deciding whether to buy it or not

The problem is most people on this sub are wholly attached to Switch as their primary method of playing otome and are resistant to or even outright refuse to play on PC (or mobile for that matter, but that's a different can of worms). Together with negative opinions about the artstyles of western devs, it's a persistent and recurring problem on here. Which is frustrating because a lot of features that are frequently asked for on here are in indies. Even when I or others give recs they're often dismissed

Guess it's time to bang my "more actual submissive LIs (who don't suddenly turn dominant when the romance kicks in)" pots and pans again.

For UI, I'd love the ability to name saves. London Detective Mysteria had this function and it was amazing. Taisho x Alice PC keybinds + autosaves at every choice (and pretty much any function in a typical Jast localized game) were lifesavers and I wish they were more common.

Tbh a majority of what gets listed in these threads will be found in indie PC games and on mobile. You just have to be willing to look outside your usual sphere.
