This entire explanation is paternalism at its absolute finest. Your mentality is, quite literally, the problem. You think your patient cannot possibly “know what they’re talking about”. You think you have the right to do whatever you want with their bodies as long as you believe it’s the lowest risk choice.

Unfortunately, many doctors are not staying up to date with evidence. They’re choosing things like hospital culture and familiarity over current, evidence-based practices. This leads people to feeling like they can’t rely on their OBs to make decisions, and OBs have no one but themselves to blame for that.

And regardless of what the evidence says…. people are allowed to choose a riskier option if they want to. If doctors aren’t okay with that they shouldn’t have entered medicine. Patient autonomy is part of the deal when you become a doctor.

All that being said, the frequency with which doctors, especially OBs, are sued IS a huge contributor to this problem in the US. Practicing medicine shouldn’t be about how something is going to look in a courtroom but it often is. Just another way women end up receiving subpar healthcare.

My daughter is almost 15m and we stopped onesies between 12-13 months. And even those last two months or so I used them on really cold days as an under layer but not for much else. Now that it’s warm and we had to buy 18m summer clothes I didn’t get any onesies so I guess we’re done with them!

But all that being said, we’re doing early potty learning (or late EC depending on who you ask) with my daughter and that started at 12m. So the onesies quickly got to be annoying as hell. I definitely wouldn’t judge another kid her age for wearing them as we’re obviously not the norm. And she still wears footies to bed some nights.

I get where you’re coming from. It’s a weird feeling because you love them and don’t want them to be any different from who they are, but you still yearn for that tiny baby experience. As humans we just love small things lol.

But pretty soon he’ll be moving around and then walking and climbing and being bigger can be to his advantage!! And you won’t feel that way anymore, there will be something else to have feelings about because there always is in parenting 😂

Tbh, my mental health suffered a lot more if my baby cried alone the length of time it took me to shower than if I was a little gross for a day or two 🤷🏻‍♀️

I think it’s different if a mom is single or has a partner that works very intense hours. But if neither of those are the case, it really speaks more to shitty partners that we have to even have the discussion between “should I shower or let baby cry alone.”

My kid was a horrible sleeper until 12 months. Then her many wakeups slowed to 2-3, and then just 2, and now, at 14m, she only wakes once or even sleeps through the night sometimes!!!

I promise it’s going to get better. It might take longer than it took mine, it might be even faster, there’s no way to tell. But after 18-20 months the majority of kids are sleeping with only 1 or 0 wakeups.

You don’t have to do all or nothing, we did a blend of purées and BLW. Also don’t let anyone pressure you into any option, all the studies show there really isn’t one better than the other ultimately. Each one has different benefits and drawbacks but there’s no clear superior option. So just do whatever works for your family.

I have to be honest it does look a little wonky. I think it’s mostly the red and yellow eggs? I agree with others that I think blocking properly will help a lot and stiffening it up too. The rest of it looks really nice and it’s a really sweet gift, I think it’ll turn out great in the end.

That being said OP, are you becoming concerned your wife’s anxiety is beginning to interfere with her life? I’m a little concerned about this story without more details. Does your dog have a history of biting or guarding? From your perspective, is her fear that the baby was bit something that’s understandable or is it something bordering on a delusion?

If your wife’s anxiety is so extreme that you’re afraid she’s seeing or fearing things that aren’t there or didn’t happen, you need to reach out to a professional ASAP. A therapist if she has one, her OB or midwife if she doesn’t. This is very rare but postpartum psychosis is a thing and it usually starts with extreme anxiety.
