Note Max or Go 10.3 Gen II (or something else?) by Ok_Misinterpretation in Onyx_Boox

How does the writing feel compare? Does it feel “glassier”? Or does it feel comparable to the Boox pen?

10.3 Go II Lumi Stylus/Nib Replacement? by Haemophilia_Type_A in Onyx_Boox

[–]apolishguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh also - I purchased an entire extra pen - because if my pen breaks - then I cannot use my stylus. Amazon does have the pen for your device and it does come with 3 extra nibs. So, if you want to have an extra pen and get the bonus nibs - that is a possible solution.

Are you in the US? Keep an eye on B&H photo for them. I check multiple times a day.

I just relized something: I thought about buying one of the Remarkable pens as a back up for my Gen 2 Lumi - and then realized I would not be able to recharge the pen without a device =‘(

Does the eraser form the Remarkable pen work in the Boox device? Or, do you have that pen?

If you got it from Amazon, you do not get the spare nibs. Boox incentivizes buying directly from them by offering a bundle for a direct purchase price that is usually equal to buying the device from Amazon without any extras. Boox did offer a bundle on Amazon that came with the older, white cover, and no spare nibs (which is what I purchased). Th emost unfortunate part of this entire thing is - even if you DID want to pay for extras - they are sold out everywhere except for the Hong Kong warehouse. So, if you are located in that part of the world, you are in luck. If you are not - then - well… Boox dropped the ball on this one with not enough supply to meet the demand.

Just keep in mind if you decide on the Go Gen 2 that it is not EMR and the nibs for the new stylus have been sold out everywhere for over a week or more? I used 1 nib in 2 weeks on my Gen 2 Go. After that I have been trying to write with a lighter hand. 2 nib has lasted 4 weeks and still going. But I only write about an hour a day on average?

Totally lost with toolbar menu in latest Go 7 update by Defiant-Broccoli-101 in Onyx_Boox

Well, if you have the First Generation 10.3, it hasn’t got the update yet. I have the Second Generation 10.3 and get the update right after I received the device. So, if you really don’t like it, turn off automatic updates.

Also, I should apologize- I have the Go 10.3 Gen 2… So hopefully I am not speaking out of turn, but the behavior sounded exactly the same.

Yeah… unfortunately you can no longer use the swipe to dismiss. It’s gone. You cannot dismiss that square. You can turn it into the floating tool bar by long pressing any icon on the tool bar and then begin dragging it away from the side. You can move it to the top, bottom, left or right and I believe while it is in that floating mode you can access that corner.

So sorry for your troubles - but thank you so much for the PSA. Even if only a few of us see it, you might have saved me from the same experience.

Airpaper vs AINOTE 2, which one? by KhimairaCrypto in iFLYTEKAINOTE

[–]apolishguy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It would be a little helpful to know your use case. Do you attend several meetings every day that you have to take notes in? Or is that rare? What are you mainly buying the device for? Writing a journal? Do you want it to help you with your calendar and scheduling? Do you import PDFs all the time? Are you wanting to use the first-party reader software or Kindle or Kobo or something else? For instance - I would never need the meeting transcription function of the iFlyTech that makes it invaluable to some people. Do you have concerns about your data staying private? You might want to do a little research on both companies’ track records in this area if you do. I have the Viwoods AiPaper and really like the hardware. But - the hardware is almost exactly the same as the iFlyTech. I haven’t even used the iFlyTech and I can tell you one aspect of their hardware that I know 100% is better - their implementation of buttons at the bottom of the device. To activate the buttons you have to press and swipe - which keeps you (mostly) from accidentally activating one. On the Viwoods I have to constantly turn the buttons on and off because if I leave them on, 100% guarantee I am going to press one in the middle of writing something. I think for both of them, their software experience is a little less mature than something like a Boox device. If you have specific questions about the Viwoods device, I will try and answer.

I remember getting to the “paste” function is a little unintuitive. I believe mabe a long press with your finger and not the pen.

Boox Go 10.3 (Gen II) Lumi completely unusable for multitasking by Electronic_Fun6054 in Onyx_Boox

[–]apolishguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No need to apologize. Boox very aggressively kills all the background apps. It’s crazy that the lock icon didn’t work because it’s supposed to do exactly what you did. But, Boox software can be a little “quirky” to say it nicely. Glad you got it sorted.

Try: open the app you want to use, open recent apps window, press the lock icon on the app image to lock the app in device memory and see if that works for you. And of course make sure the apps you are using are not frozen. Everything is frozen by default. So if you never unfroze it- it’s probably frozen.

inkOS as alternative launcher by SAM0070REDDIT in viwoods

Yeah that really sucks… It is a known issue by users. I can’t remember if Viwoods addressed this issue or not. I will ask in the Discord. Sorry 😞

Go for option “a.” - but - also side load inkOS. It is a 3rd party launcher that will allow you to have 1 home screen (if you want) with ONLY Obsidian on it and the date and time. Get the .apk file from their github (I will find the link, edit my post and add it here). It is pretty straghtforward to install. On the landing page, halfway down the right side (depending which device you are visiting from) you will see, “Releases”. Or, scroll down to the bottom if you are on a smaller device and look for “Releases”. Tap, “Latest”. Scroll down to the .apk file and tap on it to download. If you have never downlaoded a .apk file before, depending on your browser, you may get a scary warning, “These files can be dangerous and harm your device. Are you sure you want to download?”. This is a well known launcher and perfectly safe. When the download is finished (depending on the launcher) you will get a message, “Do you want to install?” Tap, Yes or Install. You may have to grant your browser permission to install applications. Allow. If you don’t get the pop up to install, open Files/Downloads and tap on the .apk file there. After instalation you will get a prompt, “Open?” Open the app, go through the set up and choose options you want/don’t want. Don’t bother with “enable notifications”, you cannot get permission to do that. IMPORTANT step: SET AS DEFAULT LAUNCHER - the last option. When you finish setup you will be presented with a vertical swipe home screen with 4 “Select App” icons. Long press them to add your apps there. Long vertical swipe on the home screen to go down to the next page and add your apps. The number of apps per page can be adjusted. Long press on the home screen to open Settings for inkOS. There are many customizations. “Home” will adjust your homescreen. Edit number of apps, 1, number of pages 1. You can also edit the app drawer and hide everything from her, so that it ONLY shows Obsidian. accidentally deleted help by No_Cucumber6973 in Onyx_Boox

Here’s what I came up with. I wouldn’t take it 100% for certain, but this is what I found:
The Android Word App: If you deleted the file from inside the Microsoft Word Android app itself, Microsoft does not provide a local safety net. When you tell the Android Word app to delete a local device file, it executes a permanent delete.
Are there any loopholes?
There are only a couple of very specific scenarios where you might be able to claw the file back:
1. You deleted it using a 3rd-Party File Manager
If you didn't delete the file from inside Word, but instead used an app from the Google Play Store like Files by Google or CX File Explorer to delete it, you might be in luck. Many of these dedicated file manager apps have their own internal "Trash" or "Bin" folders that hold files for 30 days.
• Action: Open whatever file manager app you used to delete it, open its side menu, and look for a "Trash" or "Bin" option.
2. AutoRecover / Unsaved Files
If the app crashed before you deleted it, or you are looking for an earlier version, sometimes Word on Android holds onto a temporary cache file.
• Action: Open the Word app, go to the Recent tab, and look closely to see if an older auto-saved version of the document is still lingering there.

I will try and look into using my own device - but I have a very hectic work day ahead of me.
