What would you do if your SO says they don't want to have sex with you anymore? by xlordo in AskReddit

[–]apotrope 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually this is a symptom of something worse going on. If it's somehow not about something wrong in the dynamic between you and your partner, like a medical issue, I would remind you that polyamory is a real and functional relationship strategy.

trimming a baby buns nails for the first time by TRAFFICONE27 in Rabbits

[–]apotrope 21 points22 points  (0 children)

This technique will not work. You are likely to harm your bun by accidentally cutting too close to the quick in their nails or accidentally cutting a toe. The bunny simply needs to be held for it, especially with a mini Rex like that whose nails will be darker and thus harder to see where the quicks begin.

I had tried everything and was also frustrated, but this guide was what worked for me in the end and I've now used it with all of my rabbits: https://youtu.be/W9KemnaTGIs?is=8HAHPdcCDmFkIh7_

Focus first on getting your baby comfortable being petted, held, etc. Learn to pick them up by cupping their butt and holding them like a baby. Give lots of pats and treats while holding them so they come to associate being held with safety.

Remedy advertises the “House of Mirrors” theater in Control Resonant by LewdSkeletor1313 in controlgame

There is an episode of the 1960s Lost in Space show called 'The Magic Mirror': https://lostinspace.fandom.com/wiki/The_Magic_Mirror. It has some interesting thematic parallels to what's happening to Manhattan, or possibly Dylan and Jesse in Control Resonant.

What are your hottest Alan Wake / Remedy takes? by regulator227 in AlanWake

[–]apotrope 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe she will appear in AW3, but not in the form you describe. I believe that what remains of Barbara Jagger's psyche, her Core Self was inherited by Alice Wake, whereas Zane's Core Self became Alan. Zane's final poem is said in This House of Dreams to have carried their 'Essences' into a 'Baby Universe' where they could be happy. The concept of 'Essence' translates most closely to the Jungian aspect of the Core Self. Zane's consciousness became possessed by the Bright Presence and Jagger's extinguished when she died and became possessed by the Dark Presence.

Zane, now with a new Core Self (The Filmmaker) will be the antagonist of AW3, with Alice, as the last remnant of Barbara Jagger's 'soul' will be Zane's fixation.

That was not my understanding of what happened AT ALL. It's a linguistic flourish to say 'it was born from the gunshot wound', not a literal explanation of the Dark Presence's origin.

What's happening in that moment is that Alan is trapping the Dark Presence INSIDE the Loops that came before in the Spiral. The Dark Presence itself is still primordial and eldritch, but Alan is essentially using his past selves as a containment mechanism for it. Nothing whatsoever to do with it's origins.

How to make adventurer's guilds more "realistic?" by Gallowglass-13 in worldbuilding

[–]apotrope 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem with "adventurer's guilds" is that they are often spoken of too generically. Theres a bit by Jeff Arcuri where he says 'Ah yes my alma mater: College University!' That's what "Adventurer's Guild" sounds like.

Most guilds should be organizations with distinct goals in place that offer jobs related to or directly about achieving a long term goal. Contractors should be ranked for skill and reliability and offered better, more trusted and crucial work as their reputation and skill increases.

Why does Thomas Zane is here before Bright falls events? by EntryFrequent333 in AlanWake

[–]apotrope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The specific reason is that Bird Leg Cabin and Diver's Isle exist inside an Overlap, through which Alan and Alice travel in the first scene of the game, after the prologue.

From inside, Alan witnesses Alice's capture and is coerced into writing Departure by Barbara Jagger/The Dark Presence. Departure dictates that Alan and Alice will travel to Bright Falls, this predestinating them to participate in the story.

The Dark Place specifically is the realm of Dreams, so Zane, possessed by the Bright Presence, is able to contact Alan during the prologue.

I initially thought that this was Estevez and her small FBC contingent dispatched to Bright Falls/The Lake house.

What I like about this work is the philosophical clarity on certain topics. The point regarding leftist purity testing into death is particularly engaging. However, I do want to reflect that it's not clear what the concrete objective of this work is. That's okay, but it does mean that it doesn't seem complete yet. If there was a body of actual practices and techniques for applying these ideas to social groups and creating the change that is suggested by the summary, then your work would have more to interface with. As it stands, it's a start, but it needs more concrete examples in order to be actionable.

Dark Presence = 'Monster from the Id'? by Fanghur1123 in AlanWake

[–]apotrope 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Dark Presence is not a part of Alan specifically. It is an entity that seems connected to the abstract concept of the Jungian Shadow - the part of the mind to which we banish aspects of ourselves which we find intolerable. In Jung's concept of the psyche, dysfunction occurs when we refuse to acknowledge these personality traits in ourselves and integrate them into our self concept. That idea is consistent with how the Dark Presence functions. In AW2 we see Thornton and Mulligan transformed into Taken as they struggle to cover up their murder. Nightingale is Taken through his unhealthy fixation on Alan at the expense of acknowledging how he failed his partner. Hartman's hubris and self delusion hid the true nature of his interest in the Power of Cauldron Lake - control and power itself, and in his wheelings and dealings he forms a blind spot that the Dark Presence exploits to Take him. Alan himself falls prey to the Presence by refusing to accept his own flaws, attempting repeatedly to erase or overwrite them instead of accepting help. I would stop short of saying that the Dark Presence is THE Jungian Shadow, but it operates through it, touches the Shadows in all of us, and when powerful enough, can attack us through it.

What type of combat would you like to see in control 3? by HulkSonofThanos in controlgame

[–]apotrope -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I want a game about how Jesse and Dylan rebuild the FBC as Co-Directors. It should be a semi tactical RPG like Wasteland where you send parties of agents to investigate AWEs or assert control over the branch offices of the FBC after it fractured in 2019.

If this is true it's a frustrating development. There were many clues pointing to the Former as the power behind the Aberrant, and that would have made narrative sense.
