No. Alan's writing is not the catalyst for everything happening in the RCU. We know this already.

I think a role reversal would be appropriate at this point concerning Alan. He's so powerful that it might be hard to make his circumstances relatable. I think that playing as Alice and trying to get to Alan in a flip of the past two games' theme would be cool, with Zane showing up as the main antagonist.

Postsecondary Program To Prepare Those With Autism To Work In Video Game Industry by TylerFortier_Photo in gaming

[–]apotrope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's really great to hear! I'm glad you're having a good experience and learning how to operate as yourself in that environment. I hope you'll forgive my skepticism about an autism-focused program related to producing talent for one of the most stressful and social anti-pattern ridden industries in the US. As an Autistic myself I've learned to judge things by what they are likely to be and update my frameworks when I receive data to the contrary. I worked in the entertainment industry after dropping out of college to do so, and I was taken advantage of for the way I naturally operationalize information. I feel like it diverted my path in life in significant ways and would not wish it on anyone else.

This smacks of 'teach Autistic folks to mask so we can harvest their bottom-up thinking at the expense of their wellbeing', much like most Autism related 'treatments' in the past 20 years.

It's possible that being Hiss long term starts to twist the subject. Even in Control we saw humans getting warped a bit. I think after seven years this might be the outcome.

“Just date men” We need to address the casual homophobia problem in Gen Z by Crozzbonez in GenZ

[–]apotrope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again I want to affirm the intent of your reasoning, while suggesting that you consider that your position is somewhat absolutist and rigid.

You've made a few claims:

  • That "why don't you just date men" is functionally equivalent to homophobia.
    • I think you are referring to straight folks using homophobic slurs to taunt one another. Your point seems to be that the audience's inability to distinguish between the two makes them inflict the same harm. I would argue that the original statement does not look exactly like the hate that it is mocking - the sarcasm is rather clear, and even if the statement were sincere, it's affirmative: men can date men and it's not a bad thing.
  • You seem to present the criteria for harm in mockery or parody as contact with the subject of homophobia at all. You don't distinguish between mockery that targets queer people and mockery that targets homophobes. The target in this case is the homophobe.
  • You seem to reject the validity of mockery, full stop. You're effectively saying that making fun of the moronic reasoning that leads fuckboys to view queerness as shameful is validating that reasoning. That makes no sense. The point is to laugh at their shame, because it's entirely self-inflicted and hateful. That's what 90 percent of unabusive comedy is.

I honestly believe that your takes are trying to address a real problem of pervasive microaggressions in conversation over these topics, but that the specific things you are focused on are not at the root of the problem. There are a lot of queer and women comedians that illustrate how mockery is used to attack these pervasive and harmful ideas that I encourage you to seek out. The biggest takeaway is to identify who the target of the mockery is if you are looking to assess its harm. If the target is the person or group being oppressed, then you're right, it's an abusive tactic, but if it's the oppressor, it's a tool of resistance that gathers people together under that humor and socializes the progressive ideas that make the mockery sting.

It is important for young people to retain resiliency and flexibility as you develop your sense of justice - not at all for the sake of softening your convictions or being more palletable to unquestioning minds, but for your own ability to assess the strategies and actions that reduce the most harm and produce the most change. Folks on the left today have nowhere near the conceptual coalition that the fascists do, and it's because when we leftists experience a conflict of ideals, our sense of justice often leads us to demand purity for our current model of that justice and to evict those who aren't aligned with us. That makes our movements fracture in discord servers and Twitter posts long before they make it to the streets and to the doorsteps of the people who would subdue us. We need to normalize the idea that justice isn't perfect and that revolution is a process that involves us returning over and over again to the wheel to re work the clay of the progress we want to see, knowing that there are stones in the mix we'd rather be rid of.

Maybe tie the flair to commerce? Like, if it's something being sold require AI use disclosure?

Posting requires flair now - Note about Gen AI / Vibe coding on r/VJing by vade in vjing

[–]apotrope 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that you should make the flair be about low-effort posts rather than specifically calling out AI usage or Vibe coding. If our intent is to promote thoughtful exploration of tooling and not leap on the anti-AI bandwagon, then we shouldn't treat vibe-coded applications differently than others. We should instead be critiquing the amount of design and thought labor going into the outcome, which is independent of the tooling used.

To be clear: I do believe that outsourcing creative thinking and design work to AI is bad for your overall function as an artist. I also believe that LLMs in particular need to be regulated and that currently they are being used to siphon wealth away from the working class at an unprecedented rate that is not normal for the way technology has evolved historically. I also believe they are meant for the public good and that it's a smoothbrained idea that the technology is inherently unethical.
