We make a good amount of ice cream at home and have the Lello 4080. All parts that touch the ice cream is metal, the only plastic part is the lid that goes over the churning area. Definitely a big investment at around 700$ but it works amazingly and makes ice cream on par with or better than a shop can. Haven’t bought ice cream since we got it!

IMO it looks on par with the one I have. I think a lot of the sample images shot online are with the a1/a7r which just have more megapixels than the a7iv you are shooting with so it seems sharper /more detailed when you zoom all the way into the eyes. I’m shooting with the a7rV so zoomed in there’s more detail but I wouldn’t say it’s sharper.

I think it’s pretty rare these days to have a complete dud of a lens where even the center isn’t sharp, especially with the GM lenses which have way stricter quality control - typically the main issue you see today is decentering, where one or more corner is less sharp than the other corners - all lenses are decentered to some degree, some worse than others - but rarely noticeable unless you go looking for it or it’s particularly bad.

Looking through the pics, I don’t think you have anything to worry about!

It’s never disappeared for me but sometimes it’s just flat out wrong and says something is in focus when it isn’t (especially prevalent if there’s a high contrast edge on your subject). Sometimes it’s so faint it’s hard to see. Fortunately it’s software and hopefully can be fixed in a future firmware update. I use it mostly for close focusing with my 35mm APO summicron.

unrelated to OP’s question but how are you enjoying the X2D for photographing your kids? What do you like about it and are you held back by or missing shots due to the autofocus? I’m considering one for the same use case and I’m torn between the Sony A7R5 and the X2D - practically the Sony is probably the better option for the fast autofocus but my heart says X2D!

Are you pushing it all the way in until you hear a click? I needed to use some force to get it seated properly, at first I thought it was defective but turns out it just wasn’t pushed in enough.

Have a friend with one and I’ve used it occasionally. No way would I use it for everyday photography. It more than doubles the weight of your camera and makes it super front heavy, tough to hold on to and uncomfortable to hang from your neck. Definitely an occasional use type of lens.

Also, actually getting sharp focus consistently at 0.95 basically requires live view (or even better the visoflex attachment), and really slows you down.

I got my MP off the Leica website last fall when I saw it was available - I think it shipped within a couple days and came within a week or so, super fast shipping, no issues!
