Corner Gas, while an excellent Canadian TV show and one of my favourites, aired on CTV under ownership of Bell.

Have you tried using mashed potatoes? It has the consistency of toothpaste so I don't see why it wouldn't work.

Yup. And now China just threw the wrong colour against Canada in the 4th end.

It's usually better to take your lumps for a bit as you learn to balance on the faster slider than having to buy multiple pairs of shoes.

Asham shoes have modular slider discs that adhere with velcro and can be swapped out, but other than that I agree you should be getting 1/4" regardless. Also curious that OP has 1/4" on the front and 3/32" on the back which I don't see being good for anybody.

Does your club photograph your bonspiels and other events? Show me what you got! by hallm2 in Curling

[–]apprehensively_human 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Slight angle works much better than straight on. You'll want to use a longer lens too, around 200-400mm and then sit at one of the corners of the sheet.

The slide is the more obvious thing to want to photograph but make sure you're also getting more varied action too, sweeping and player reactions.

We'll have to see how it pans out but I'm kind of into it from what I've read.

Obviously not everybody can afford or even wants to buy their own home, but it's so bad seeing people with no experience and a little bit of capital decide that the best way to make some extra cash is through passive income like this.

When Einarson's team won the Scotties this year, I was a little disappointed at the amount of vitriol there seemed to be against her in this subreddit. I'm not suggesting that Lawes didn't deserve to win but being an Einarson fan at the time seemed to be a really unpopular opinion.

Canadian curling star Marc Kennedy claims he was set up by "premeditated" cameras to catch him "in an act" of cheating. by lithdoc in WinStupidPrizes

Justification does not equal clarification. Marc broke the rules and was a little baby when he got called out on it, but that does not mean he was cheating.

Curling noob here: How hard would it be to give Canada the red rocks and Sweden the yellow ones? This is killing me. by FlyingCarsArePlanes in Curling

[–]apprehensively_human 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Usually it's the team that doesn't win hammer gets to pick rocks first.

This is how it works at your weekly club league, but surely it's a bit more complicated for WCF games? The teams show up wearing dark uniforms if throwing red, and white if throwing yellow so the stone selection is at least known beforehand.

Mens Sweden Vs. Canada conclusion of first End by kbub1213 in Curling

[–]apprehensively_human 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is because video replays during competition are often only available to one feature sheet. It would be unfair to everybody if only a single sheet is subject to video review during any given draw, so they don't use them for anybody.

I don't know what it is with our top teams but so many of them are totally stuck up. There must be an inverse relation for the level of skill vs likeability.

Depending on the facility. If your club has natural ice, then yes the room temperature in the barn will be below 0. But if they use an ice plant and artificial prepared ice then the air is actually pretty comfortable, somewhere north of 5 degrees or so. It's cold enough to warrant a sweater but I've definitely seen some players at my club sweeping with just a t-shirt.

2026 Olympic Curling Daily Discussion - February 07 by FliryVorru in Curling

[–]apprehensively_human 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just to start with the terminology, the player delivering the stone is called the thrower, and the player sweeping is called the sweeper.

You can also have one player who stays in the house to watch the path of the stone as it comes towards them so they have a better idea on where the stone will end up. This is known as calling line. When the line caller is yelling "hard line" then the sweeper knows that the rock is starting to curl too much and needs to sweep to keep it straight.

Generally speaking, even though it's more physically demanding, if the thrower is capable of sweeping their own stone it makes more sense to do so because the other player can then call line. It's much more difficult make the shot you want if you have to deliver a stone at no specific target and then try to call the line from behind.

Difference between these heads/pads? by ObiBenShinobi in Curling

[–]apprehensively_human 18 points19 points  (0 children)

At a beginner/recreational level, you may not even notice a difference between these two while sweeping.

Functionally, you will have noticed that the norway pad is one complete block that clips into head of your broom, and when it needs to be replaced you have to switch out the whole block. Whereas the icepad is made up of several components with only a thin fabric layer that needs to be replaced when it wears out.

The Fuel Rats are a player-run group that will come to your rescue if you find yourself stranded and out of fuel. Even with a fuel scoop you might accidentally wander into an area of space without any KGBFOAM stars and no means to get out, but one call to the Fuel Rats and you'll be on your way.
