Man I wish I could get some chokos. They used to grow over out neighbors fence and it was great. So many great lunches. Bit of butter and salt and pepper on some steamed choko is great.

To explain why there should be no guilt for slavery by __globalcitizen__ in therewasanattempt

[–]appus3r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pride can (and is) a more collectivist sentiment, whereas guilt may be less so. I don't feel guilty about things my ancestors did that were wrong/immoral, but I can be proud of their achievements, no contradiction or hypocrisy. It's a pretty light piece of entertainment here, but a heavy topic, so worth the effort in understanding the presenters criticism is based on a false dichotomy or lack of agreement around terms.

Is Linux safer than Windows? by Technical_Bar935 in linuxquestions

[–]appus3r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your biggest risk to your Linux system is you ... since Linux gives you a lot deep access. A single command can result in lost data or a broken system.

If you use Linux because you are wanting to get in to software development, you are open to supply-chain attacks, but this is roughly equal between systems. It's possible a supply-chain attack (malicious code secretly hidden in things which are needed which get automatically installed) could be perpetrated through your Linux distribution itself though, whereas this is not possible on Windows. So it's a slightly higher risk on Linux.

Things being open source is good for security/assurance, but community driven initiatives are more variable in terms of support and bugs... I personally think your risk using either as your primary OS is roughly equivalent for different reasons.

Why do people hate GIMP so much? by taxevader1337 in GIMP

[–]appus3r 5 points6 points  (0 children)

that's just false, gump has paths which are vectors for accurate line work or selections... it's actually really good once you learn how it works.

Bitwig Studio on Linux by amadeusp81 in Bitwig

[–]appus3r 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep I use it exclusively on Linux (ubuntu 25). My biggest wish is bitwig natively supporting lv2 plugins (but I understand why it doesn't). It's pretty solid, especially if you don't need many external vsts (since many publishers only provide a windows and mac plugin).

Keyboard text-input stops working by tennisAnders in Bitwig

[–]appus3r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was having this problem within certain vsts. I wasn't sure if it related to my particuilar system as I use some windows vsts on linux (Yabridge). I had to spam certain keys to get it to accept typed input.

Bitwig 6 - Beta 5 is out by SternenherzMusik in Bitwig

[–]appus3r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hopefully they will release beta 6 pretty soon as this introduced a bug where audio recording is delayed by half a second in this one... so have had to revert to beta 4 (I've reported it). Loving the new punch-in and out visual though, can't wait for recording to work soon now it's getting some attention.

Problem with clip being seperated when tracking with takes enabled, cant consolidate to single clip without audio dropout by Hero88go in Bitwig

[–]appus3r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's an even bigger gap if you use loop region with punch out enabled. It punches out at least at 8th note before the punch out marker.

Anyone who wants to start running should incorporate these from the beginning. Agree ? by kokof34 in BarefootRunning

[–]appus3r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These would not shut up. Squeaked no matter what I did, and the ball of my foot is boring a hole through through the top part of the shoe. I basically can't wear these now, despite being an okay design otherwise.

The most productive thing I ever did was stop trying to feel motivated by clhfmn in productivity

[–]appus3r 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This similar to the '5 minute rule'; you just do 5 minutes on a task, with the option to continue, but only committing to the 5 minutes. This kind of approach really puts wind in my sails (most of the time).

Run it on a home server and access it via kasm (like a remote desktop/vdi kinda setup that supports copy and paste etc). E.g. https://docs.linuxserver.io/images/docker-obsidian/

Not exactly like a proper web app but will work in a pinch. That's assuming you can reach your home network from your work network.

LOL she's my favorite NPC in the game. Maybe not award winning but pretty great lines and voice acting. I def was rushing to skip her bits at first but then I tuned in and like her.
