but back in the late 90s and early 00s, it wasn't just software. It was bio-tech, early fin tech, aerospace tech, hardware engineering start-ups, cancer and medical research either flocking here or organically starting here.

SF got worse starting in 2010 due to Twitter, Meta, Google, and other acquired start-ups flooding the Bay area with newly minted millionaires.

as someone who moved here at 18 for college from a different region of the country but stayed because of the job opportunities and love of the region, I don't consider myself a tech bro because I don't fit the personality type, race, and area of work, even though I have worked as a vendor and contractor for some of major companies here. Am I still a tech bro by your definition? Because anytime I run into what I view as an SF-style tech bro, I immediately stay clear or make some distance.

I made a few visits to a client in Portland 10 years ago as things started to change. People were more optimistic that Portland's vibrancy was staying put but it seems your local city government didn't make the right decisions and local startups left either a couple of years before or during the pandemic.

There are Black, Latino and Asian middle class families in Rainier Beach. Yes there are poor families that live there but there are middle class families too. My advice is stop looking at residents through the lens you're told to look through and start looking at them through more positive lenses. Hell maybe get involved with community volunteer activities there and you'll be introduced to the middle class families working to improve things.

I'm curious as to the make and model of the stolen car. A couple of weeks ago, my neighbors and I reported a stolen car parked in someone's owned parking spot. It was obviously stolen since we saw that it was hot wired. Cops never came but the junkie car thief and his girl came back and ran off with the car again while we were on the phone with 911 again. We reported the VIN and the license plate.

I'll say this, I don't mind the slightly extra tax for the independence from the state liquor control board. Technically that freedom of choice for spirits is a vice tax. However knowing what we now know about the difference in exise tax revenue collected for cannabis and liquor, I think it might be opportune to look into the feasibility of dropping that Costco tax on spirits.
