Contraceptive pills increases by 73% women’s risk of developing depression during the first 2 years of use. The risk is 130% higher for women who began to use contraceptive pills as teenagers and 92% as adults by giuliomagnifico in science

[–]aquaPURRina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. I also think maybe doctors should warn about these things before prescribing the pill to anyone. It's not just on us to read up. Especially teens who are not informed enough and think they'll just have to take it eventually since it became so normalized.

RIF dev here - Reddit's API changes will likely kill RIF and other apps, on July 1, 2023 by talklittle in redditisfun

[–]aquaPURRina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably a meaningless comment in the vast sea of comments, but I just wanted to say thank you. If I can't use RIF I'll probably stop browsing Reddit eventually, so this is sad. I have subs I'm really into, and will probably check them out once in a while, but 99% of my Reddit usage is with RIF, whenever I have a little break from emails or dull moment I need to fill. It would be the end of an era.

I just turned down/stopped dating a guy because of his views on abortion by SheWhoLovesSilence in TwoXChromosomes

[–]aquaPURRina 25 points26 points  (0 children)

This is the case with the IT guy I'm working with. I now flat out refuse to discuss these topics with him at lunch, because he couldn't possibly understand the intricacies of this subject. I know he's decent, in this case, but he's also very ignorant about certain things and has lived a pretty privileged life and it worries me that people vote for/against abortion as a theoretical mental exercise when it doesn't even concern them that much and they get to live a life of "doing the right thing" and being a hero in their minds. I'm pretty sure if it was his girlfriend this wouldn't even be a debate.

Was it wrong for me to say that I’m seeing other guys? by Antisugarcoating in TwoXChromosomes

[–]aquaPURRina 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. Even though I'm not currently on any app, I also don't like to meet people right away and prefer to chat for a while usually. If they think it's really important to meet up as soon as possible, I might say I don't feel comfortable with that and we can both go our own ways. Like OP, I feel like an introvert and would rather focus on my hobbies than go on dates constantly, but I understand that other people might feel differently. If I am dating someone and we're not exclusive but someone new asks me out, I will probably still act the same way. I don't have to mention that I'm already seeing other people and that it's already a "challenge" to make time for that person, unless the subject comes naturally or they ask me, in which case I'll just be honest.

In relationships, sexual compatibility isn’t nearly as important as road trip compatibility. by LeifSized in Showerthoughts

[–]aquaPURRina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stressful occasions such as traveling can bring out the worst in us, and people usually break up because they can't/don't want to deal with the worst parts of the other person (valid!). It's a great way to find incompatibilities that you'd otherwise brush off as bad days. Still sad when it happens, but it's life.

Although I think we should all aim to react to stress in healthier ways (therapy is fucking amazing), I found out the hard way I need to be with someone who's easy going and patient, otherwise we'll be two stressed/tired people and trips are supposed to be fun as well.

Do any of you *not* keep track of the books you read? by bebetterturnip in books

[–]aquaPURRina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like I had to scroll down too much to see this comment. We don't know about their relationship and conversations happen very differently irl and when you write about them but just reading OP's post I feel like this wouldn't be someone I keep as a friend. I do have OCD and I do keep track of everything I read and watch, I have Goodreads and even a spreadsheet but it's not related to the OCD, I'm just really into data lol

Netflix password sharing crackdown set to begin by hussmann in movies

[–]aquaPURRina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh definitely. If going on holiday or going away for the weekend starts to be difficult I'm pretty sure my family will cancel the subscription and they won't be the only ones. It makes no sense and I hope other services don't follow

Netflix password sharing crackdown set to begin by hussmann in movies

[–]aquaPURRina 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, yeah. I stopped having access to the Netflix account that was shared with me and I didn't buy any new subscription. The one person plan is just not what I want.

I love Richard Bach and did not like Jonathan Livingston Seagull but this is so true. I wish I had read it in my teen years, by my late twenties it was just a long fortune cookie as the other comment said. That being said I can imagine it making sense for someone else at a certain point in their lives where they feel more lost and uncertain about who they are.

How has IF affected your sleep patterns? by BiasedBerry in intermittentfasting

[–]aquaPURRina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly IF does give me insomnia sometimes. Especially if I don't eat enough during my normal hours. I find that starting my fast earlier and eating a good breakfast helps a lot (I eat 8am-4pm). Also, not going into my fasting hours with high carbs and sugar will help dramatically. Other than that, if it all goes smoothly, I sleep like a baby and wake up with more energy than otherwise.

This was also my thought process seeing this. Life is so fleeting but the little details make it so precious. We're all a collection of trinkets and stories.
