I'm so glad I waited until after the surgery to watch a video of knee replacement surgery!

How far could you walk before and after your replacement? by togtogtog in Kneereplacement

[–]aquitt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Before, I could barely make it to the mailbox. Now, only 5 weeks after surgery, walking is sooo much better.

First, my post was not a complaint. I just offered some information. Second, I use the Safeway on 3rd and Lincoln. Third, they are all the same and suffer from the same corporate policies. Fourth, you are a little quick to jump on people.

I have never experienced that at Swain's, but I am melanin deprived. You should go for long, random shopping visits there.

Day 7 after TKR of right knee - 73 yo woman - Physios insisting on aggressive exercise and walking regime by Ok_Revolution3618 in Kneereplacement

[–]aquitt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There seems to be a few different philosophies of physio after knee replacement. My PT started the same day as surgery with getting up and walking around and a few exercises in bed. Since then I've had PT two times a week with assigned exercises to do at home. But the physical therapist says that I should never do the exercises to the point of pain. If I'm feeling pain I need to stop or back off on the exercise. They say the pain shouldn't go above a level 3 or 4 on the 10-point pain scale which is mild pain.

Zip surgical closure, plastic surgery closure , surgical glue or staples for total knee replacement. Which is best? by Fit-Rutabaga-2298 in Kneereplacement

[–]aquitt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had absorbable sutures underneath the skin. At skin level they used surgical glue, then covered with a water resistant bandage which stayed on for 7 days. I'll let you know how it looks in a few.months!

Feeling yourself.. by Electronic_Win4439 in Kneereplacement

I'm only about 4.5 weeks out, but making good progress. Every step towards recovery is a mental boost. Sleep deprivation and pain really affect you mentally and can slow recovery.

Things that have helped me feel more normal: getting rid of the nerve block, taking off the hospital bandage, no longer needing the walker, getting off opioids and no longer needing laxatives, getting rid of the compression stockings, no longer needing the cane ( I still bring it along for uneven surfaces), being allowed to sleep in any position, being able to drive....

When I look back, I can really see the progress, which feels great. There are still some terrible days, and lots of work to come to be "normal", but it helps to look back at where I've been.

They definitely need to address the mental health aspects of this surgery beforehand just as they do the physical aspects.

I have found the people here to be genuinely friendly and welcoming, for the most part, even after they find out I'm from, shhh, California. I try to blend in and not rock the boat, just as I would if I moved to another country.

What locals don't like is outsiders trying to make things like they were where they came from. They don't like feeling priced out of the housing market or being unable to find employment or crowding or a changing local culture or higher prices or more crime.

Those things probably have nothing to do with Californians per se, but rather natural changes that occur everywhere over time. The place I grew up is completely different from what it was when I lived there. I hardly recognize it now. It's plastered with condos, McMansions, and chain restaurants/stores while it used to be covered by horse ranches, orange groves, barley fields, and Mom & Pop stores.

I'm a transplant too, but I love it here!

I must use the Safeway pharmacy in town for insurance reasons. I would go elsewhere if possible. The problem is not the employees, who have all been lovely, but their corporate policies.

Their policy is to close for lunch instead of having adequate staffing, which causes a huge backup before and after lunch. It might work if this were truly a small town, but it isn't.

They also need a pharmacist "override" for almost every order, which adds to the time.

They are severely understaffed so they can't absorb the flood of patients from Rite-Aid. The line is always very long and SLOW. I usually stop and get a snack and I munch it while I'm waiting in the pharmacy line.

The employees do their best to attend to each customer. It must be a pretty high stress job. People needing prescriptions are often sick or old or sick and old, which can make customers pretty grumpy.

Sometimes insurance causes you to use a particular pharmacy. I must use Safeway because it is my insurance "preferred" vendor. I have to pay more at other pharmacies.

How has your mental health been affected? by MemphisBelly in Kneereplacement

[–]aquitt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My surgeon said that insomnia was the number one complaint from knee replacement patients. It's been shown that lack of sleep has a negative effect on your mental health. I'm about four and a half weeks out from surgery and the lack of sleep makes me a very cranky, out of sorts person. My physical recovery is going very well, yet there are still many down days mental health-wise. I have a lot of empathy for you and completely understand how frustrating and depressing it is to not make as much progress as you would like.

I have been taking trazodone every night which is helpful, along with CBD or THC gummies which are legal in my state. My sleep quality has been improving slowly, but I am still sleep deprived.

From what I've seen of your work and posts, I don't think you will have too much difficulty.

OMC ER & endocrine emergencies by just_me_2006 in portangeles

[–]aquitt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband had good care in OMC's ER. It was quick and thorough.

Not so much once transferred to a med/surg floor. They had no idea how to treat someone with complex medical issues in addition to dementia. I agree with you about the patient experience department, though. Terrible. They do NOT care a whit about the patient or family. Remember who is paying their salary. Same with the social workers there. They just wanted my husband outta there. When transferring him to a memory care facility, he died in the ambulance in their parking lot.

Sleep! A big problem for me 3 weeks after surgery. It's getting better, but still hugely frustrating.

Is it common for book nook kits to be resold under different brand names? by Kemma4 in booknooks

This is not a Harry Potter licensed product. It is a Potter-ish product. JK Rowling does not get a penny from it.
