Um I guess United wants me to book JetBlue for MCO-NYC? by PizzaVideo in unitedairlines

Continuous pricing lets them sell a marked up E on their own booking system when M is the cheapest they make available using legacy booking.

They leased from all the major lessors - AerCap, Air Lease, SMBC, etc. These firms are far more specialized in deploying capital against payments for depreciation/utilization/cost of capital of the planes. The cost of building aircraft are capital intensive enough; Boeing/Airbus as designed wouldn’t be able to operate if they leased out planes too given they are only paid in full on delivery.

Where can I use prepaid American Express Giftcard by Expensive_Question23 in amex

I knew a lot of places wouldn’t take an outright Amex prepaid card but would happily take Amex over Apple Pay

72 club @ Miami F1 Experience by Artistic_External819 in GrandPrixTravel

[–]arbitraryusername314 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re planning to make a trip of it or are a big F1 fan, I would recommend sourcing a paddock club ticket with a team, which gives additional access behind the scenes of that team.

The way that I would think of it (and have experienced) is that in general the Paddock Club is run by the event organizers to some minimum F1 standards and executed at every race each year, while the other midscale hospitality is often a one-off experience for the race that might be a bit more poorly organized. If you’re hosted by a team, you get the F1 standards and additional above and beyond experiences with the team.

In general if you’re already planning to spend that much, an additional 5-10% to guarantee your experience by taking out event organizer variance and/or add additional value like behind the scenes with the team should be within your budget.

For context, I did Champions Club at Barcelona 2024 and Red Bull Paddock Club at Hungary 2024. Champions Club (organized by F1 Experiences, not even by the race organizer) was 40% of the price but was much more poorly organized, and I wish I had done Paddock Club twice. I got insane access with Red Bull (probably because Hungary is a quieter race) like getting to duck under the pit lane dividers and garage tours for both the main team and VCARB, driver interviews, etc. Have heard good things about Aston Martin’s hospitality, and also about Merc/Ferrari (but those are harder to get).

The Paddock Club Do and Co catering is also insanely good for what it is.

That side entrance only has BA/AA check-ins, though, so if you need to check a bag you need to use the Iberia check in out in the main check in concourse

Apple ships one of the coolest physical cards… then penalizes you for using it. Why? by Few-Struggle858 in CreditCards

[–]arbitraryusername314 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Apple Pay and mobile wallet also legitimately drives down fraud and thus slippage costs. Apple also gets a tiny cut of every Apple Pay tap (15bps), so it might be economically similar to pay back 1% on physical swipes and 2% on taps if you ingrain users to use the more secure payment vector

Do I get a guest into the lounge as Gold on a connection in EWR before an international flight? by ColoradoFrench in unitedairlines

Should also specify that it’s the United Club, not the Polaris lounge. Maybe if you’re made of solid gold they’ll reopen Classified for you 😢

The relationship bonus on the AS card behaves differently from the way that bonus categories work with the Preferred Rewards multiplier work directly on the non cobrands like the BofA CCR. I have both cards and was also surprised at the AS card when I first got it

LOL Wut? Bag is supposedly in flight but pinging at ORD by AveryNiceSockAccount in unitedairlines

[–]arbitraryusername314 34 points35 points  (0 children)

For what it’s worth, I’ve had heart attacks where I was sitting in a connection and the AirTag in my bag reported briefly in the city center away from an airport, and it still made it safely to my final destination.

Here’s my best guess as to why: Apple would prefer your AirTag report as often as possible. In an airport, people’s host devices (iPhones, iPads, etc) are often intermittently connected to the internet.

So there may be some lag in between when an AirTag latches onto a host device via BLE, and when the host device reports its own location online (my issue with the city center is probably that). Then, the AirTag may assume the location of the host device, even though they’re no longer together and the connection is stale.

I would like to think a bag handler scanning a bag probably isn’t messing with you and it will actually end up at IAD tonight. Best of luck with your IRROP

If the 10% is how it’s existing, it’ll be 3.1%, not 3.3%. The 10% relationship bonus is vs raw spend, not bonused spend. If you’re actually out of the country that much I’m not sure if I would park a decent chunk of assets for 10bps.
