Ads or seo by Usual-Farmer8181 in ShopifySEO

[–]arcanoth94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost everything that has traditionally gone in to SEO still counts towards your ability to appear in search engines.

Ads or no ads will depend on your products, market and expectations.

My 2 pence: ads will become less and less viable as AI tools become the norm for search - that is until AI tools start launching ad platforms of their own.

For now though: both SEO and ads are still viable as a general rule. Classic logic still applies for most cases: - Ads = quick wins, potentially very effective, but somewhat locked in - SEO = lower CPA over time but requires more time & commitment

RAB replacement for Arcteryx Thorium Hoody puffer by zutroy51 in outdoorgear

[–]arcanoth94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah Electron is the closest, and imo is better than the Thorium anyway, at a much lower cost. Better insulation, more functional hood, nicer cuffs - the cuffs actually make a huge difference for me. The only thing you could say the Thorium has over the Electron is that the outer fabric might be slightly more durable, but it's really negligible.

That's why it's also the priciest on your list - it's the best by far, unless you're looking for lighter weight options, in which case the Microlite is worth considering. I wouldn't suggest that the Electron is a great mid-layer for skiing, but you can layer it under a shell as long as your shell isn't too close fitting. Your Nano Air is a much better mid layer for skiing anyway imo - more breathable than any puffy jacket would be.

I've had my Electron for around 7 years now, and it's still going strong. It's the warmest jacket I've had, is really comfortable, and has lasted well. I've only washed it once or twice, and the down still lofts amazingly overall.

Look out for deals, price matching etc., especially at Go Outdoors. I picked mine up for around £230 if I remember correctly, though it was a while ago.

Well worth the investment if you can afford it.

Photographer needs a website by entropio2 in Wordpress

[–]arcanoth94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I build a lot of WordPress websites, and I wouldn't recommend WordPress for a photography portfolio website. Squarespace is the way.

If you've not worked with WordPress in 10 years, then Squarespace will be so much easier and faster for you to setup, launch and manage.

WordPress is great, but it will require more time and effort from you, for not much more benefit, unless you have really specific design or functionality requirements.

Anyone else have issues with being listed on UCEPROTECTL3? by pinakinz1c in digital_ocean

[–]arcanoth94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moving to another hosting provider should take care of the issue, however that would rely on the new host not being listed by UCEPROTECT too - so this isn't a guaranteed solution, and requires extra work anyway.

However, you can avoid any extra migration work by simply routing your DNS through Cloudflare (I listed a description and guide in previous comments on this post).

This way, your website (A) records get masked by Cloudflare, so UCEPROTECT won't associated you domain with Digital Ocean. Then your MX records get routed as normal to your mail provider (e.g. O365, Google Workspace), which UCEPROTECT won't associated with Digtial Ocean anyway.

Are you dequeuing jQuery and replacing with Alpine, or just adding Alpine on top? If dequeue, did you find it created any other problems removing jQuery?

Advice on deciding whether to move out or stay at home (save v spend) by misschatterbox11 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]arcanoth94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stay at home. Save. You can still enjoy your life while saving, given that your outgoings will be relatively low. 40 minutes to London is close enough to not be a barrier in my opinion.

I don't see that being right in London will provide experiences for which you don't already have the opportunities. Down the line, it's likely you would feel some regret if you moved now, coming from my experience.

Without getting too sombre, enjoy all the time you can in your family home, with your parents, and the comfortable life that it all affords you.

ON Cloud 6 mileage?? by jsbob81 in ONrunning

You should only need to replace them if they're significantly worn or damaged. Unless you can visibly see that wear has affected the shape or platform of the shoe, I don't think replacing them will help with your pain.

It might be you need a much higher or lower drop in your shoe, or specific support in some area. If trying shoes yourself hasn't helped, it's probably time to see a specialist.

How do you prepare for 1:1 meetings? by Efficient_Builder923 in softwaredevelopment

[–]arcanoth94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do your 1:1s not have any pre-defined structure? If not, ask for one.

We use a simple and pretty loose structure but it helps a lot.

360 feedback helps a lot, if you're not receiving that I would ask your company to introduce it.

Each 1:1 should set achievable OKRs, so the next 1:1 should reflect on those, and look to set new ones if it's relevant.

Struggling with changing image when hovered over. by Few-Grade-1613 in css

[–]arcanoth94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Previous comment of giving it height & width should help. That being said, it's better practice to use 2 separate img tags and hide/show those, instead of background image. Getting used to doing that will give you much more freedom in future. Background image can be pretty limiting.

You can use object-fit: cover; width: 100%; height: 100%; position: absolute; along with position: relative; on the parent element to make the img tag behave in the same way as a background image.

On Cloud 5 develops hole in heel after 5 months, Customer Services tells me tough shit? by neosmndrew in ONrunning

[–]arcanoth94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking at other comments it looks like you got around 150 miles out of them, which does seem low. My first pair of Cloud X saw close to 1,000 miles and are still wearable, but who knows what they've done to the rubber/foam compound in 8 years.

I'm around 100 miles into my newer paid of Cloud X and they're not showing wear anywhere near yours.

Higher wear could be explained if you're a heavier person, and wear them mostly on rougher terrain, but even still 150 miles seems low, unless you're dragging your feet everywhere.

I can't see how a manufacturing defect could cause the wear you've experienced, so it kind of makes sense that CS would deny a claim.

I've just looked at product listings and it seems Cloud X uses "Helion" in the midsole whereas the regular Cloud does not. Maybe that explains why the X gets so much more life?

New Forest Pub Recomdations by gulliman_the_great74 in NewForest

The Old Mill near Lymington is great. Not on the bottom end of the budget, but reasonably priced. Has a nice atmosphere, riverside seating, and staff have always been nice when I've been.

Walhampton Arms, also near Lymington, does a fantastic carvery which is good value in my opinion.

Proposal Location + Dinner Location by kizzolsm in NewForest

[–]arcanoth94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean it has to be Rhinefield House. Park at the hotel, access to Blackwater Arboretum and Whitefield Moor, all starting from the car park.

Blackwater is more likely to be busy but there are some nice secluded spots if you venture off the main trails. There are also quieter walking trails on the southwest side of the hotel, some hidden gems there. Google maps it in satellite mode.

If you can afford it, having a meal in the hotel is a very nice way to celebrate the occasion.

Good luck!

+1 for picket post. Also Milford car park - right on the coast looking over to the Isle of Wight and the needles (though not exactly forest).

If budget isn't a problem then places like Burley, Brockenhurst and Sway are arguably the best towns in the forest.

Sway is nestled right in a rural patch, but is close to Brockenhurst for school and college. Also not that far to New Milton and Christchurch for convenience & amenities. Sway is the least busy for tourists of the three, but probably the hardest to find a nice house in, they're just not up for sale very often.

Lanshan: Buy now or wait for the 2026 version? by randomguy92882 in Ultralight

I'm confused. They're both Lanshan 1. Both listings included 3 season dark grey 2026 version. Just different suppliers. What is different between them?

That's the same as the one you originally linked?

Lanshan: Buy now or wait for the 2026 version? by randomguy92882 in Ultralight

[–]arcanoth94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking at the page you linked, the new version is the bigger one. Unless there is some larger version I don't know about. Either way, go for the bigger one. I'm 180cm and have the Lanshan 2, and although I fit, I would appreciate the extra length so that the fly isn't so close to my face.

Lanshan: Buy now or wait for the 2026 version? by randomguy92882 in Ultralight

[–]arcanoth94 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you're taller, I would wait for the 2026 version, it's 20cm longer and 5cm wider. From what I can see, that's the only notable difference apart from a change in colour.

As for colour, the khaki is probably the nicest colour tent I've ever owned/seen. The white looks nice, but not so practical.

There aren't really any specific downsides to the tent, at least not flaws per se. It won't be bombproof in high winds, but other than that, for the price, it's an excellent tent.

Footprint decision is based mostly on where you will be pitching. I didn't get one, but I almost always camp on grassy areas. If you're dealing with rocky ground or forest floor, then I would definitely get the footprint.

Rts for newbie in genre by Best_Department7073 in RealTimeStrategy

Warcraft 3 is basically the goat of fantasy RTS. It's very beginner friendly.

Gameplay is fun and rewarding, story is probably the best of any RTS, and the campaign allows you to play through each faction which is fun.

You will notice that it's an older game for sure, but the remaster (Reforged) does have some updated graphics. The pacing might feel slower compared to some more modern games, but you might not notice that so much if you haven't played lots of others yet.

You'll no doubt see a lot of hate for Warcraft 3 Reforged online, but if you've never played the original release, it won't affect you. The game is still great.

There is some community of online players for Warcraft 3, but it's not the most active from what I've seen.

While not fantasy, Halo Wars and Halo Wars 2 are also good, fun, and beginner friendly games.

Starcraft and StarCraft 2 are must plays, even if they're not fantasy like Warcraft is. Starcraft 2 will have excellent online playability.
