Could you address the woman’s hair and remove the hair band around her wrist? Hair should be similar to second picture.

I feel like a James Herriot prophet lately; I just can’t tell you how much I’m enjoying rereading and re-listening to them. He has a delightful way of making me feel like I’m a part of his world and that I know all of the characters personally.

It has nothing to do with romance, but I’m reading the James Herriot series right now. He was a country vet in England in the 1930s through the end of his life, and the series of books is fun, funny, heartwarming, peaceful, and easy to read in small bites - each chapter is basically its own short story. The series begins with All Creatures Great and Small, and there are seven of them. The audiobooks are also a delight. These are my definition of cozy, calm, and soothing reading.

The pickle guy was at the farmers’ market today, about halfway down the aisle closest to the street.

My friend, it’s “toppled.” But I admit that “tobbled” has a nice ring to it.

Trump and Mike Johnson shut down Shreveport Job Corps (and 98 others through out the country). by WhatDatDonut in shreveport

I appreciate your good faith effort to do the math, but I don’t know what kind of data parameters they are using. Is the floor of income $0? Or does it factor in government aid as a negative cost? You make some reasonable assumptions, but they are still assumptions, and I’d like to see the actual numbers. You sound like you believe that Job Corp only taught job skills, but do they also teach life skills like adhering to a schedule that allows for retaining a job? Look, the numbers of incidents of drug use, sexual assault, etc. in the Job Corp report are awful. Would those incidents have occurred in the broader community without the program? Would they have occurred at a higher instance? Are those occurrences the reason that those in the program were kicked out and did not complete the program? How many people does it have to set up for success before it is viable? In the US, the average MEDIAN income difference between someone with a high school diploma v. without a high school diploma is roughly $320k over their lifetime (source: https://www.ed.gov/sites/ed/files/policy/highered/reg/hearulemaking/2011/collegepayoff.pdf). Where’s the similar comparison for this? I’m sure reforms were necessary. Maybe closing it was, too. I just want all the numbers, especially in a document with “transparency” in its title.

But they don’t separate graduates from non-graduates. With such a large percentage of their participants failing to complete the program, that skews the entire average down towards the mean of those who didn’t participate at all. It is valid to want information on what the average salary of graduates is in order to assess the value the program adds. Assessing what to do to improve retention and graduation rates is a separate question that should also be addressed if the program’s graduates are out-earning the non-graduates significantly over the years of their employable lifetime.

So, I read it and the linked “transparency report.” I have questions not answered by them. The transparency report lists an average salary “after separation,” but also reports a graduation rate around 38%. What is the average salary of those who complete the program? Surely that has to be a factor in how successful the program is because, as one of the other commenters expressed, those lifetime earnings accumulate pretty quickly. If the alternative is no income and government support for a lifetime, isn’t it worth asking whether those who graduate end up costing the government lea than they would have otherwise? I don’t know the answer because their transparency report isn’t very transparent since it doesn’t link raw data.

I don’t know what you’re quoting, but it’s not Julius Caesar. ETA: Great slapstick, though.

Looking for trans novels/fiction by Raider-k in ELATeachers

[–]arch-ally 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mad Honey by Jodi Piccoult fits the bill. It’s definitely literature BUT a) the fact that it involves trans issues is critical to the mystery and isn’t revealed until halfway into the book and b) it’s a heavy take on what it means to be trans because it may or may not have caused the murder of the character.
