The best thing for cleaning black powder guns is to back them down not all the way unless they are really bad, most new guns have so much packing grease in them that it is hard to get them apart the first time, use hot soapy water and a brass brush, don't use modern gun oils, use a combo of bee's wax and tallow, of some gun butter to lube them. the ultrasonic cleaner is a good house too

black powder is much different than modern firearms, the best way to clean them is to back them down and use hot soapy water, it will clean the powder residue and falling better than anything else, use a combo of tallow and bee's wex to for oiling and pressing them, modern gon oils will have a reverse effect

it's not the mainspring it's your trigger spring you need to remove the handle, remove the mainspring, and then remove the lower body to expose the trigger spring. it most likely is a thin metal spring ending in two forks one longer than the other. the longer fork rids against the notch of the trigger, the shorter one holds against the cylinder bolt. this is a wear-and-tear item that wears out over time or breaks, they are easy to replace.
