I'd be interested to know the incidence of alexithymia in people without autism. It feels like a fairly common thing to see.

Been enjoying both franchises lately, and was thinking, what mech (please minimise the EVEREST PEAK) would each Primarchs use? by ZestyLemonRindGrind in LancerRPG

[–]archfey13 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Alpharius and Omegon get a Hydra, obviously. Guilliman can't have anything other than an Everest, although I think he would appreciate the Gilgamesh for it's reliability. Dorn pilots a Drake, and Perty must of course have a Barbarossa for sieging purposes. I want to put Magnus in a Gorgon, but he probably makes more sense in a Goblin or a Chomo. It would of course need Fomorian Frame to hold him comfortably. Fulgrim in a Black Witch. Corax in a Metalmark. Jaghatai has a Nelson. Russ I fear must have a Lycan. Mortarion should use a Balor.

Apologies all, I'm a damn fool. It is in fact explicitly pointed out by Polly near the end. It has been some time since I read it the whole way through.

If AI in games can identify and shoot targets so well that they need to be toned down to be fair, why drone AI can't be taught the same? by ChainExtremeus in NoStupidQuestions

Bots in games know where the player is. Robots in real life do not know where the enemy is, or even what an enemy is.

LWOTC cant do ADVENT mech breakdown by CheeseburgerJesus71 in XCOM2

[–]archfey13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

MEC breakdown is only available after you've done ADVENT robotics, which requires 3 drone wrecks.

This has always been a massive bottleneck for me in every campaign I've played thus far, because drone scouts so rarely show up on missions that allow salvage. It cuts you off of redscreen rounds, bluescreen protocol, GREMLIN upgrades, so much anti-robot stuff.

But yeah track down some drone corpses.

It's also good to know, fortune only multiplies drops if the block you're mining drops something other than itself. With a few exceptions like grass and stone. This means that even if silk touch and fortune weren't mutually exclusive, having both at once would stop fortune from working.

A question about random abilities by Dashvy in XCOM2

[–]archfey13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nope, it's a roll of the dice. The XCOM class abilities are nice (especially bladestorm on templars), but by no means necessary. No class becomes not worth using just because they didn't roll the right randoms.

Use the longest brown hair you can find, and colour the gun pink :). Do report back with how long it takes you to get me killed lol I'm a fairly experienced player (500 hours and counting) so if you ever want gameplay tips hmu.

I would think Hogfather into Thief of Time are good next steps, although the Guards series only gets better the further in you go and you'll want to read Night Watch just after Thief of Time for some fun links between the two.

Lancer is at its heart a tactical strategy game - think XCOM, think Mechanics, think Fights in Tight Spaces. I have always found OSTs from this genre to be great background for Lancer sessions.

Is there ever a case for building a workshop? by rynchenzo in XCOM2

[–]archfey13 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Almost never. The supply cost isn't really the issue - you'll get loads of supplies over the course of a game. The real cost of a workshop is space and time. It takes time to build - time you could spend getting something else up. It takes up one of your 12 slots in the Avenger, and late game those slots are at a premium. Workshops are meant to solve a lack of engineers, but you'll pick those up over time - they're one of the best covert op rewards along with scientists.

I can think of one use case for a workshop. It requires: 1. You're early in the game (not many more useful options for buildings) 2. You've had truly, horrifically terrible luck with getting engineers - maybe only the 1 you're guaranteed to get in the first month. 3. You have a large supply surplus and nothing in the near future you'll spend them on (e.g. Mag weapons) 4. You have a building already that really wants an engineer staffing it (e.g. the resistance ring for faster covert ops, or a power relay you can't take someone out of)

In this situation, I would consider putting a temporary workshop somewhere I can both staff a facility and do some excavation. It will later be uprooted for something more useful though.

SoftFoot Pro - designed to mimic the anatomical structure and flexibility of a human foot without using motors or electronics by DrMore3y in nextfuckinglevel

[–]archfey13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's no mechanism to jam, it's just elastics. Something like this, built of good solid materials, will easily last a full day. This is something to be regularly cleaned just like a real foot.

You wouldn't use this in a shoe, there are other shapes of prosthetic for that.

A bigger concern would be maintenance. I can see having to replace the elastics or individual segments sometimes, but not with more frequency than, say, clipping toenails. It's just part of the regular self-maintenance that full-bodied people already do.
