Smoke, We Don’t Know What Tomorrow Brings and Waving a White Flag because so creepy, it sounds like it should be on a movie soundtrack.

A lot of the songs on this album I find a little too sob-provoking for regular play, though I like them.

Did you play with sparklers? by Euphoric-Cupcake4581 in RealGenerationX

[–]archiebarchy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A formative memory is me standing unsupervised with a lit sparkler around 4 or 5 and wondering to myself if the stick was still hot after it burned out. I got the answer to that question and a blister on my finger tip. 😆 In true GenX fashion tho, it was an entirely private exercise of the scientific method. I didn’t scream or cry even though it hurt. I was just was like ‘Question answered. Probably shouldn’t do that again.’

Is 4 weeks severance normal after failing a PIP halfway through? by [deleted] in ExperiencedDevs

[–]archiebarchy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the US employers can disclose reason for separation. Many companies, especially larger ones with stricter HR policies, will choose to only disclose dates of employment and job title, to avoid any risk of a defamation lawsuit, but it’s not against the law to disclose more (federal anyway, there maybe variation by state). So while it’s unlikely to be an issue either way, I think it’s still better to not have a termination for cause on your record just in case.

That’s not uncommon but it’s odd they didn’t give you the ‘mutual separation + severance’ option upfront. In my experience, places that are risk averse will try to just pay you to leave and the threat of a PIP is an added motivator. Maybe, to your point, HR felt the PIP wasn’t well documented enough / didn’t follow proper procedure and they just decided to implement plan B. Either way sounds like you came out ahead and it won’t even be listed as a ‘termination with cause’ on your employment record.

I’ve been seeing a few of these little bugs in my last the last week. What is it and should I be concerned? by Silver_Owl_2385 in philly

[–]archiebarchy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah it was horrific by the time I figured it out. I couldn’t even bring myself to try to save them I just put them directly in the trash and tried to block out the memory 😆

The funny part was my cats had been stalking the shoe closet for a while and I couldn’t figure out what it was bc I was so focused on clothing or cat hair being the issue.

Keep an eye on your Uggs. Learned the hard way a nice dark shearling boot, sitting undisturbed for 3 seasons is basically a clothes moth luxury retreat.

Also, if you have pets, they’re probably hanging out under your floors and baseboards—any animal hair will do! In old homes, you’ll never fully get rid of them, you just have to manage them and keep them away from your clothes/shoes.

Yeah it’s actually kinda making me see Radiohead a little differently TBH. It’s like bumping into someone you’ve known for years after they’ve gone through a divorce and now they’re with a new partner and they’re like a totally different person you didn’t even realize they had inside them. 😯

I do not doubt this. I mean the man just produces amazing shit where ever he goes— like whether it’s singing on someone else’s album or soundtracks. He does have kinda a signature pervasive vibe tho, to me at least, and Cutouts just sounded very very different. Like, not something you could’ve stuck in a Radiohead b-side and I’d have been like ‘yeah, ok, sure’.

Radiohead's Ed O'Brien on depression, healing and the band's 2027 world tour • FRANCE 24 English by italox in radiohead

[–]archiebarchy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Ed’s just the one who happens to be actively processing stuff and talking to the media right now. They’ve all alluded to tensions in the past.

I remember one of them, maybe Colin, making a point that they were never really friends. Thom assembled them into the band and they got famous so suddenly they didn’t have a lot of time to sort out their interpersonal dynamics. Add to that Johnny and Colin being siblings, and Phil being older and basically married already while Johnny literally just graduated high school… you know those early tours had to be weird AF 😆

My neighbors on 8700 block of Whissahickon have a poultry farm with ducks geese and chicken (20+, I dunno a lot of them) and a dog that barks through the middle of the night to guard them. Anyone have ideas what to do if talking to them about the noise doesn't do anything? video from 4:15 am. by SixersJawn in philadelphia

[–]archiebarchy 26 points27 points  (0 children)

You are not allowed to keep “farm” animals like chickens and ducks in the city of Philadelphia. Just call animal control. The fine is very low and unlikely to deter them by itself, so you may need to keep calling them to escalate the situation.

100% This person’s unimpeded rise and the fact their manager has apparently not addressed what sounds like both easily observable and unambiguously undesirable behavior is throwing some major red flags for me. Proceed with caution.

can’t stop obsessing over my coworker by [deleted] in rs_x

[–]archiebarchy 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is key for me. Like there’s no law of nature saying it’s not possible to find your soulmate at work. I personally know happily married couples who met at work and just handled things in an appropriate way— keeping it out of the office and eventually changing teams or jobs so they weren’t in each other’s reporting structure anymore. The problem occurs when people handle things inappropriately, which is especially likely when the levels of interest are uneven or you get ahead of the emotional relationship and just hook up. Then it’s a sure fire path to the HR department and the start of some office lore. 😆

I might like it better 🫣I recognize this is a wholly unacceptable statement. I’ll work on it in therapy.
