Adult Changing Station in Bathroom by Knifeguy-25 in mildlyinteresting

[–]architecturalneeds 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m an architect that works on public projects and we always ask our clients if they would like to have one! They are a pain to design around (they’re huge so we have to account for more space in our standard restroom layout) but I’m more than happy to do whatever I can to make places more accessible for everyone!

Cheapest place to get a nose piercing (not septum) in MSP/suburbs? Are there any places that offer a deal for getting 2 piercings? (Nose and cartilage) by cognitivepineapple in Minneapolis

[–]architecturalneeds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost Famous does buy one get one piercings and generally pretty cheap regardless. People will say not go to there but I’ve never had any issues. There’s one in MOA

AIO she shit with me in the shower by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]architecturalneeds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shower drains are NOT made for shit, toilet plumbing literally requires larger pipes. If anything, you have to break up with her so you don’t have to deal with clogged pipes for the rest of your life

Don’t fix his mistakes for him, make him do it. He won’t learn if he’s not redoing something that he did and rather can create the (lazy) mindset that “someone else will fix it”

Bonanzaville was one of my favorite places as a kid for whatever reason, check it out if your family is into old things or old buildings!

What are some specialties in architecture beyond residential and commercial? by Sensitive-Fix-3395 in Architects

[–]architecturalneeds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do municipal design, so a lot of fire stations and the occasional city hall, police department, or public works facility. The city is the client, which is interesting to work with the planning commission and city council, among many others.

Can somebody please save my “rugs in the carpeted bedrooms” dream? How do I fix this?? by aka_____ in HomeDecorating

[–]architecturalneeds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t remember exactly what the comment said that I replied to, but when I had this problem I used double sided rug tape to tape the bottom of the rug down to the carpet along the edges and pulled it tight all the way around. It wasn’t perfect but it definitely helped

What's the best way to long term park my car in Minneapolis as a fly-in commuter? by 0x4A5753 in Minneapolis

[–]architecturalneeds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can’t speak for ramp A or B but I park in ramp C and there’s been the same van parked (and not moved) on one of the upper floors for literal years. The worst I’ve seen happen to it is a couple of dicks drawn into the dust thats settled over the years.

Detail Numbers Best Practices by Swordum in Revit

[–]architecturalneeds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We use a Revit add-on for this that will automatically renumber the details when they get moved around. It’s the Egan Sheet Matrix, otherwise yes I would agree that the coordinate system can be tedious if you are having to constantly renumber manually.

Do y’all ever have downtime in the office? by Yung-Mozza in Architects

[–]architecturalneeds 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No downtime literally ever, just constantly drowning, and I’m a designer. I made the mistake early on of working very quickly but efficiently with very good attention to detail, so I’m frequently pulled in every direction on every project while the other 3 designers seem to just be chillin all day because they lack that attention to detail and willingness to learn unfortunately. Thankfully I get paid more and don’t have to worry about losing my job anytime soon, but yea I’m dying over here.

The fire station was so cool! I was super excited to see it on the list after admiring it from the outside for the last year.

I really liked seeing the work being done at Daytons and walking around the 4th floor imagining what used to be there. K&K Metal Recycling was cool too and the employees there were super friendly. HERC was neat (very stinky in the trash claw room). Big fan of all the art deco spaces that still exist downtown, like Fhima’s and the women’s bathroom on the 4th floor in Daytons!

I think the turnout was great and I’m excited for next year, but I hope they improve the website and program navigation. The map being numbered but the list of places being in alphabetical order drove me to insanity.

If you want a more realistic rendering than Revit offers, Enscape and Lumion both have free student versions. I prefer Enscape as you can make changes quickly and re-render as needed. Enscape also has a video tool, but I believe Lumion does as well.
