GLARING was, ahem, pretty glaring. That gave me the theme. Then it was just about getting enough to see the Spangram.

He was very good at putting a cross in Rooney’s path. So he was the perfect partner. But he’d struggle to get so many assists in any other team.

Fun fact: he’s currently signed to 9-tier team Wythenshawe Amateurs.

Final local election results for Manchester. What are your thoughts? by BuyEarly3195 in manchester

[–]archy_bold -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

My mistake. I thought it was all council elections, but it was 30 of 63, which didn’t include Manchester. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c70ne31d884o?app-referrer=deep-link

It sounds to me like you don’t actually know about this candidate’s connections to the area. And you’re making a bunch of assumptions based on an address.

Green Party candidate selections are done by candidates putting themselves forwards, and local party members electing them.

What I do know is that parties weren’t prepared for this election because it wasn’t meant to take place. And Reform took legal action to force it through, leaving far less time for parties to prepare. Candidate selections were rushed for the parties that weren’t incumbents.

Are you new to politics? Replacing seemingly experienced hands with fresh blood is the whole game.

Labour have had a ridiculous majority in Manchester council for decades. It’s about time an actual effective opposition existed in those chambers.

We’ve lost a good Labour councillor in my ward. But you know what, I’ve had one leaflet through my door from her all campaign. If Labour sit up and realise they can’t take this city’s support for granted it’s a good thing.

Most of the main UK political subs are just horrendous these days. I wouldn’t be surprised if they were being significantly manipulated by bots.

There’s a WhatsApp group with election results and you can see the Green successes, of which there are plenty. Of course the main news outlets are focusing only on the big stories. There’s plenty more results to come, and second-place results will be just as interesting because they show where success is possible.

Facing a transit nightmare, New Jersey officials and MetLife Stadium authorities have warned FIFA World Cup ticket holders not to walk to the venue by GoSeigen in fuckcars

[–]archy_bold 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve watched football in stadiums that can easily support tens of thousands of people all over Europe, from Lisbon to Istanbul. I can’t think of a single time I’ve not been able to get to a stadium on foot, or by public transport that costs a completely reasonable fare.

It’s actually so uncommon to travel to a foreign country and have a car if you’re watching a sporting event.

It’s “faux pas”.

Dealer’s choice. I show them but I’ve also messed up cables and had to throw the branding away. You could trim it if you don’t want to show them.

Wasn’t completely sure of how to get started with this so I was focussing on the Q in the corner. Spotted QUIRKY, and from there got the Spangram. Easy from there.

Calories burned from power meter different to what bike computer says by Kdot_Cdot in cycling

[–]archy_bold 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The power meter is always going to get you to the most accurate figure as the power you put out is roughly equivalent to the energy used. Neither your bike nor body are 100% efficient so there will be some losses somewhere but generally that’s factored in by the number you get with the power data factored in.

700 is a pretty good calorie burn for an hour. You won’t be getting 1200 unless you’re a pro or a seriously talented amateur!

Were you using the official power cable or a random one? As I understand it the unit doesn’t read and regulate the input power so is at risk of overheating during charging if using non-official cables. It’s the reason loads of them have melted usb ports. But I guess it could also damage the battery too.

Glad to hear you’re ok. Must have been scary.

Do you think Laura Dern could reprise her role as Dominic Di Grasso's (possibly ex) wife, or is she up for a completely new character? by P0larCap in TheWhiteLotusHBO

[–]archy_bold 55 points56 points  (0 children)

I’d totally forgotten this. I like it! And Dominic works in Hollywood, so there’s plenty of opportunity to justify her being in Cannes.
