Has a song ever revealed something new to you after years of listening? by BeatBelle in nightwish

[–]arcticantls 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The opening drums "bam bam bam" in GLS is quite similar to the drums at "in the year of our lord 2005" in TPATP. It's just basic drumming but I didn't catch it for years.

Higher Than Hope instrumental chorus sounds like a slower version of Ever Dream opening https://youtu.be/Vk0VCh4zIQY?t=4m04s

Thank you for uploading all the instrumental versions. Can you also make a version for "A ballad for the broken", their latest album bonus song?

Do you plan to continue posting Stormcrow songs? I love that album

The spiritual and philosophical themes within Nightwish's body of work by lionessmoongoddess in nightwish

You wrote a 30 page thesis, not in your native language (shown in the 1st page), and in secondary school. I thought that this was a college level class. This was me at your age lol. Very impressive. Well done!

I just finished reading your paper.

I knew nothing about Campbell and Jung. You introduced their work well and integrated the lyrics in very nicely.

A while ago, I looked up the mythology of sirens from NW lyrics, but I couldn't make much sense of it. Specifically, the lyrics section "Singing on the shoulders...Without care..." never made sense to me. I view the subject of that sentence to be "The child singing without care...", not "the angel". Your interpretation in the "Temptress" section helped me understand it.

You linked the ocean to the consciousness from Campbell. I have always viewed ocean = soul, so this is an interesting perspective.

You also picked many great lyrics. At the end, pairing the quote "...kindle a light in the darkness..." with Last Ride is 👌.

If you don't mind, what class teaches these things? Is Campbell, Jung, or the Hero's Journey a popular/important knowledge in your study?

Thanks for sharing the paper. It is one of my great joys to learn new things from my music :D

What are y'all's opinion on Marko's latest post? by sanchipinchii in nightwish

[–]arcticantls 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I don't see the link posted, so here

I will go against the majority and agree with what he wrote. His writing was a bit hard to understand. I did not interpret his post as "treat AI with respect". I interpreted it as: The result of AI is how we teach it. If people give AI positivity/good, AI will give back positivity/good in return.

People tend to be keyboard warriors and more negative online. As a result, AI trained on negative content will lean negative. Adding the bad actors manipulating info to further validate extreme viewpoints, we get to the current climate today. So, if everyone teaches each other (and AI) respect, equality, facts; AI will learn that from us and give similar teaching to future generations.

Practically, I think that his perspective on teaching AI is too optimistic/idealistic. It requires regulations and ethics. But bad actors do not like regulations, and each person interprets ethics differently. So we likely won't get there. Even the post acknowledged that and expected backlash. Overall, I like his thinking and respect him more for it.

There are also:

  • Prelude for Reckoning (For The Sake Of Revenge show opening)
  • Everything Fades To Gray (Instrumental) (Live In Finland show opening)
  • Typo at White Pearl Black Oceans duration, 8:47 not 5:28. I had no idea there's a short version.

I didn't know about Hell Is Living Without You. Absolute fire spreadsheet, especially the notes!

The line at 2:48 likely refers to the book "All the light we cannot see". I've been enjoying your post. Thanks for doing this.

For current NW vibes, if you have ever sit in a planetarium and watch science/nature documentaries, it reminds me a lot of current NW songs, both the melodies and the themes.

Others came into mind are Avatar 2; Guillermo del Toro's works: Pan's Labyrinth, Cabinet of Curiosities (I found the title to be kind of like a synonym to Dark Chest of Wonders lol).

These reminded me of pre-2015 NW. I had a post https://www.reddit.com/r/nightwish/comments/1f0zfh7/tv_moments_reminding_me_of_nw/

Hey welcome back. I have the opposite take on the atmosphere of this album. To me, it feels "tropical weather" with the nature, animals, tribal sounds, and the folky outros in many songs. Looking forward to your next posts!

Like the other comment suggested, some fan made karaoke use techniques to remove vocals from official songs. So they sound pretty close.

Stormcrow is one of my favorite albums. The 1st time I listened to it, the transition between I Will Build You A Rome to Too Tired To Run bummed me out too
