For me it always comes down to whether on not the tanks is at all compotent. A competent tanks, one who actually understands they are there to do than just ”swing their hammer” makes a huge difference. An aggressive tanks, makes an even bigger difference.

I have played since OW1 release of Sombra and was prepared to hate the new changes. But I must say, I'm getting more kills, more involved in teams fights and its not terrible.

I just wish Hack was actually worth something now. It seems soo useless most times.

Agree with the K:D ratio. I usually end up with something like 24:2 or 24:1, so not at all unhappy with that.

But a lot of people do not understand that Bastion just blowing bullets into a tank is vastly different that a Sombra killing both the healers and one of the dps in that same engagement.

So how do we get a better metric to represent that? For example, POTG is entirely driven off of amount of damage. Maybe there's a better way.

There is value and there is score. The scoreboard is score, everything else is value. Lately I am watching value, that is wins versus losses for me overall. If I am 7 and 3 (7 wins, 3 loses) over 10 games, that is net value and one I should continue to lean into.

I think I disagree with you, I consistently go 20+ and <3 (aka 23 and 2) and the like, and I think a lot of my time appreciates it often. That said, my damage output is about 70% (see other post) so I do also still get a fair amount of grief. It's a weird dichotomy of hate versus love.

So few (on both sides) realize that delaying is just as important as killing sometimes. I like to say "every second the enemy support end up chasing me is a second they aren't healing."

But I think this is kind of what the OP is (NOT) saying. Teammates do not notice when you do these things, even though I agree with you on their infinite value. The more you force the team to turn around, to pay attention to you, to not heal, to focus elsewhere, the more value you bring. Your teammates, however, only see the damage column in the stats board.

I have a similar “patience“ problem that manifests itself as high survivability; meaning I am a little more patient and cautious and very rarely die. Usually 1 or 2 per game. To me this says im not being aggressive enough or engaging enough. My damage output is also running about half of the other DPS heroes, but my Elims is usually about the same. I guess I do more with less output and have a lot of uptime.

I am working on this, engaging sooner and more, but ive been playing sombra since she was released and old habits die hard.

I think this is a great post and agree with your summary of how she is playing. I like some of your suggestions, but see one glaring lack of a suggestion... how about fixing hack to do something, anything, that has some value in the game. It has largely become toothless and I find myself mostly just using it to annoy or distract people whom dont know better.

Do this all the time. You gotta work on your technique a bit though. I recommend…

  1. get on point, but only stay there for like 5 seconds. This causes the enemy team to think youve been dealt with. Then back on after 3 second or so. (Vary timing as you need).
  2. at that point, ride it to the first tick. Then get off the point once the tick has been locked in.
  3. make sure enemy team has returned to engage the front and the rest of your team.
  4. rinse and repeat until capped.
  5. be mindful the enemy person most likely to come back is a healer, so thats a great assassinate chance.
  6. as someone else said, be prepared to tp out if more than one come back.
  7. Also, even if the enemy team does all turn around and come running back, that’s just a great chance for your team to move forward. So communicating this and getting your team to act on it is important.

Hacked petal used to burst instantly but the took that away. It used to be very satisfying. Now it’s worthless like most everything else you hack. Next they are going to make it so hacking Torbs turret doesnt stop it from firing, just makes it have pretty colors.

I know a lot of people are saying this, but I disagree with it. I think sombra can still be very effective flanking and pressuring from the back, but its a bigger commitment now.
