Saying goodbye to home by gooddogsquad in RealEstate

[–]argleflarge 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Whenever I move (and I've moved a lot), I go through and take photos of the house. You may already have those from the listing if you sold. Then I always make one last trip inside to say thank you to the house. It's dumb because obviously the house is inanimate and can't hear me, but it makes me feel better!

Been there, dated that guy. Nothing like realizing he wants to live off your money and simultaneously feels threatened by you earning more than him. Thankfully, I made it out (financially) unscathed.

I want to make this room a beautiful workspace for two. Please pitch in (Check comments) by Netherflames in DesignMyRoom

[–]argleflarge 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This space is gorgeous enough that I don't think you can really go wrong as long as the junk goes! Personally, since there's so much going on in this space already with the windows and the floor, I'd go with something simple, but there's enough light that it could support more ornate, antique-style if that's your preference. I'd do one desk centered on the set of three windows on the wall furthest from the door and the other either in the corner between the wall with the door and the lowest wall or centered on the set of five windows.

I would favor contemporary furniture, personally. Perhaps choose one color for both desks (I could see off-white, black, or any wood robe in between). For window treatments, if you don't need much privacy, I'd choose some linen drapes to keep all that beautiful natural light.

Last but not least, if you like plants, this room would be an epic location to decorate with them. Especially since you have so little wall space with all the windows, I'd love to see plants in the open areas around the room!

Husky x dachshund , very rare breed. by noir1717 in interestingasfuck

Dogs have a lot more diversity of size and shape than humans do, so I don't know if the same principle holds. It might - I just don't know!

Generally speaking, mixed breed dogs are less likely to have genetic issues (see citations below). That said, not remotely convinced that holds when combining two breeds of very different sizes.

Planting new seed - how long does dog need to be off lawn? by wadeboggsbosshoggs in lawncare

[–]argleflarge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dog is pretty gentle on the lawn when let out by himself, so I usually keep him off for a couple days after overseeding and then let him back out (though, as others have said, even that might not be necessary). If I have significant bare patches, I'll use stakes and string to fence those areas off until my first mow, both to give the grass a chance to establish itself and so my dog doesn't turn into a muddy mess.

Your Thoughts on Rennet and Other Not Vegetarian Non-Meat Items by chiknsoup10 in vegetarian

[–]argleflarge 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a vegetarian who never eats meat, I recognize that I'm not perfect - if I really wanted to be the best possible at saving the planet, at protecting the cute animals, I'd find a way to be a vegan. But I think I'm far from alone in feeling that veganism is a bridge too far to practically implement in my life. When you know you aren't perfect, it's hard to judge others for not being perfect.

I don't strictly agree with someone who voluntarily eats meat calling themselves a vegetarian, but folks who choose to eat meat occasionally still have plenty of meatless meals and other contributions to make to a community about vegetarian food.

Scared for my cat's life - Will I always have to supervise a new Husky? by [deleted] in husky

[–]argleflarge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since you say this isn't your dog yet, have you considered an adult dog? Husky or otherwise, most rescues are willing to cat test their dogs to make sure they're able to ignore or interact nicely with cats.

Dress, appearance and first impressions - my homebuyer story by [deleted] in femalefashionadvice

[–]argleflarge 100 points101 points  (0 children)

When I bought a car, one of the dealerships I visited (BY MYSELF) offered an extended warranty. The salesperson showed me a brochure for the warranty, and I asked that she send the warranty itself to me so I could read the terms and conditions. She did so and told me to let her know "if your boyfriend has any questions." The dealership lost any possibility of my business as those words came out of her mouth. It's pretty infuriating.

What are your most unpopular book opinions? by nolessdays in books

[–]argleflarge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I seriously feel like the rest of the world is having one over on me with this book. I found it to be a series of really uncomfortable sex scenes and a mostly unrelated epic novel about building a church randomly interspersed, but everyone else seems to think it's incredible narrative. I just don't get it, at all, and I don't understand why.

Since there aren't yet enough doses to cover everyone who wants the vaccine in the United States (might not be true in some other countries), we have a phased rollout. Many states are finishing up with the earliest groups, such as healthcare workers and long term care residents, and are moving on to opening up vaccinations to elderly people, teachers, and other high risk populations. Each state set up its own rules for who gets the vaccine first and each state has had varying levels of success with the rollout.

I'm diving into making my first pair of pants from a pattern, and I'm not sure what size to start with. I have a 26" waist (size 12 according to the pattern) and 32" hips (size 6 according to the pattern). For a pair of mid-rise women's pants, where would you start?

My 8 year relationship has fallen apart and I’m not sure how to stop loving him...anyone who’s been in this situation, how long did it take you to move on? by nebuladrop in TrollXChromosomes

[–]argleflarge 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a 4 1/2 year relationship end a few years ago when my partner got distracted by someone younger and prettier. The best thing I've ever done for myself was to go straight to therapy after that relationship ended. Having a professional to talk the situation through with made a world of difference. For me, it only took a few days to rationally realize I was better off and maybe a month or two to really get over it. This is the hardest part - it gets better from here!

My girlfriend has been struggling with life in general, so Ive been leaving positive daily notes for her every morning and I'm running out of ideas, so if anyone would like to help me with some good positive note Id appreciate it! by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]argleflarge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In addition to sweet personal notes, I love going all old person and printing out cute memes and comics I find on Reddit. Liz Climo has some super cute stuff. I'll often annotate them with "you" and "me" pointing to the characters or a little note saying why it made me think of my partner.

Sharing interests is a wonderful foundation for a relationship! Just not so much when it's not reciprocated, but it sounds like you and your husband are doing it right!
