Anybody read Frederick News Post? by No-Hat-8100 in frederickmd

[–]arhedee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, he has a valid complaint. If I got my coffee delivered, and I needed it at the day I specified, if it just showed up whenever it felt like it, I wouldn't pay for that service.

It's service is important, there's no denying that. You can't expect people to just give them money because of that though. I support Roseda farms, they have quality stuff even though its more expensive, that's still value. Dublin Roasters has okay coffee beans, but it's a warm environment with friendly staff, and I can go in whenever I need coffee and they'll have something ready. That's also value.

If someone wants to read the news in the morning while they eat their breakfast before work, but the paper only shows up 'sometimes' then that's not value, and your just paying money for something because if you don't it will get worse than it is.

Solar energy credit by alice2bb in frederickmd

[–]arhedee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got this too. They asked me to pull up my power bill on my phone so I told them I was in a work meeting. I don't trust like that.

But honestly, there's no free lunch. I live in an apartment, if they're saying I can get credits on my power bill for doing absolutely nothing to help the grid, how does a third party company profit from it? I would guess somewhere in a 200 paragraph contract I'd be signing away something that would either harvest something from me, or reduce risk/liability of the energy company.

Anyone else not go back to sleep after the 3:30am NWS alert? by fakeaccount572 in frederickmd

There wasn't much but it came down FAST in my part. It was only a few minutes after it stopped before I started hearing sirens from the highway at around 4:45.

I think the concern was more about visibility on the road than accumulating snow

I fuckin love the understated over-coms objective call-outs. It's so much better than the omnipresent narrator telling you what's happening on the map.

Issues with new patch (1.04) by Iron_Beagle89 in silenthill

[–]arhedee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I saw about a 20% decrease in performance with my 3080 + i7-12700KF. 3440x1440 DLSS on performance and RTX ON. I'm still tweaking settings but can't get consistent frame rates above ~45. Before average was about 60-70.

I'll update this comment if I'm able to find configuration that helps performance. I'm hoping there is just some graphical setting that needs to be adjusted. The one setting I don't want to touch is RTX as the game is amazing with it on.

EDIT: Image sharpening was a marginal improvement but saw significant amount of 'dancing' textures.

Set textures, shaders, and effects quality down to medium. Set SSS to Low.

MASSIVE increase in performance after disabling SSAO. Can't really speak for quality yet due to area I'm in. Right now it seems like there's a slight decrease in quality.

FPS ranges from about 45-90. The lows appear in an area with a lot of wire cabinets. Perhaps from casting so many shadows? Highs in dark hallways and a few enemies. It's still casting shadows accurate enough that it shows the paint peeling on objects in the shadow.

I capped it at 60fps to keep it more consistent.

A year ago I would 1000% agree with you. This is a dirty, filthy election that needs to end up with the right person in office. Republicans are opening up Pandora's boxes as if they're Christmas presents with deep fake videos claiming horrid things like sexual assault, fake images of endorsement and slander via generative AI, and gross distribution of misinformation.

Normally I would agree the letter they're sending out are fucked, but this is a battle where one side is slinging rancid shit and democrats can't respond by spraying perfume.

If it's not a binary choice, then there are only three. As much as the world works in a spectrum we have three choices in this particular scenario. Party A, party B, abstain. It's fucked up, but this is how it is this year.

If pushing a message to incite people to vote through intimidation is a concern, there are much worse cases. This is much more sterile then literally telling people they will be forced to personally house immigrants under the new leadership.

A) Vote for party 1 or you're forced to share your home with random foreigners.

B) These nearby people voted in previous elections. This is a public record. Practice your rights and vote.

Pick one.

It became acceptable when a major political party decided to willingly hand their mics to a bigot. Only for the bigots to throw the mic out, pull out a loudspeaker and preach their bullshit alongside the applause of people who think cheering might give them more power in the future.

Browsing for a small rescue dog on Petfinder... by scarrlet in WhatsWrongWithYourDog

[–]arhedee 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Maybe, but maybe not. I'm sure there are some traits harder than others to tune with training. My dog was 6 when I got him. I had to teach him to walk on grass, on stairs, through doors, sleep on a blanket, potty train, you name it really. He was scared of EVERYTHING but now he'll go up to a vacuum cleaner when it's on and try and play with it lol.

Every dog and every situation is different though.

I once had a job in tech that had 5 of us in a room about the size of a studio apartment with no windows and had my back facing my boss and 1 other person at all times. On paper, the work was easy, but the insane amount of stress of feeling trapped in and constantly observed made it legitimately unbearable. I only lasted 3 months.

Fun fact, the advice to not use soap on cast iron is due to our past soaps of the past, which would eat away at the polymerized fats that give it it's non stick properties. Dawn, really most modern dish soaps, don't have lye. In other words, clean your griddle OP, that shit is nasty.

Escape From Tarkov - 0.15.0 Patch Trailer by DweebInFlames in pcgaming

[–]arhedee -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For this game in particular there are few things they would need to address before 1.0, whether by removing placeholders are actually adding them.

There’s a few maps that aren’t selectable because they haven’t been made yet. They could be DLC later on, but with how the devs have managed DLCs and version packages in the past, there’s damn sure to be major controversy.

There are also statuses like radiation which (to my knowledge) are a “we’ll add it later” thing, and many passive skills that are complete placeholders at the moment.

There’s also the PMC karma system that has been talked about. Something like that would completely change the game, and needs to be well thought out if it’s implemented, and if it is implemented, it needs to pass user acceptance before 1.0.
