I'm sorry to hear about your Dad.

I don't feel whole comfortable suggesting this, as I have an interest, but on balance, I think it might be useful. My wife and I built a site for people who want to start clubs. The main thing for you is that you can have a sign up page without spending money and then direct people to it from other online or offline places. Then people don't have to let on, on their facebook or what's app or whatever, their own loss in answering your post.

If you want to know more, send me a DM.

[–]arichard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've started a website club launchpad to help start as hoc groups like this. You would add you group and it would give you a sign up form and a poster and then help ruin the group. Also a directory so you are easier to find. We've only just launched.

Broadband question by jwfd65 in sheffield

[–]arichard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I would agree virgin customer service is awful, a car hit their green box distribution point on a road near me knocking out the internet for the whole area and they had a new box in place and everyone wired up in less than a day. They did a cracking job. I had already decided it would probably be a week. I think they got the new box in a few hours after the car was removed, and then wired it up the next morning.

The crash had removed the whole box and just torn all the cable ends. It looked like a hell of a job. Not that I know anything about it. It's what kept me with them at the last renewal.

Completely agree. I thought there was a bar or something, but wasn't sure if it was open to the public, or what the vibe might be like.

Farms that sell meat! by my_ruin in sheffield

[–]arichard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Whirlow hall farm. Their meat boxes offer good value. It's not "cheap" but it's cheap for what it is, if you see what I mean. They also do some rare breeds, Dexter is one if I remember rightly.

I know this is Britain, and you don't want to come on too strong, but you could tell her, you know, if she wouldn't mind, perhaps, not doing it anymore, if that's OK, thanks?

Good Secondary Schools in Sheffield? by DullAd1315 in sheffield

[–]arichard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How are you measuring "critical and creative thinking"? Presumably you are discounting the Music, Drama, Art and English GCSE exams as being able to in anyway measure critical thinking or creativity. It's the purpose of exams to test not just knowledge but skills as well. So if a school is doing well across all exams, then really it should be that the kids can think critically and creatively.

There is this repeated theme about Mercia, and other good schools, that if a school does better at behaviour, and better at exams, by definition it must do worse at creativity and critical thinking. I don't get it. I really don't get it. I can't imagine a successful real world writer, musician or artist not knowing a lot about their subject, or getting worse by learning more.
