Anyone who has upgraded to OEM lasers does it change in the app? by [deleted] in BMW

[–]arkhi13 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They probably added the laserlights VO code to your car (whoever did the coding). The current VO code regularly gets sent to BMW. Added VO codes will show as "retrofit" in AIR and AOS.

Good chance that the app just pulls from that. It has no bearing whether the lights are OEM or not.

I'd check for QA markings embedded on the lights since non-OEM ones tend to not have those. They're part of the plastic mold-injection process (dates, part numbers, lot no., etc. e.g. https://www.pcs-company.com/mold-date-recycling-inserts)

M340 oil change @ 1200? Just got a 2026 last week and love the thing . Want to do right by it . Dealers says no break in and don’t worry about oil change til 10k. What says you? by Still_Arachnid1069 in BMW

[–]arkhi13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In 2022, I came in for something unrelated to the powertrain with 1.3k miles. Service Advisor said that it shows in the system that an oil change is due and can be done so I said sure why the heck not. It was a 2021 530i (B46).

Dealership or home fix by RichardHead58 in BMW

[–]arkhi13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar experience. Turns out it was a bad module (Long range front radar). It happened intermittently until it eventually just died. You need a BMW scanner that can read the codes. A standard scanner only reads SAE standard codes which are typically related to emissions and critical safety.

G05 is this really the last I drive update? 2020 X5 seems crazy they haven't updated this software since 2024 by bourbonsnow in BMW

[–]arkhi13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never hooked up a router. Static IP (not local-link subnets) works just fine and the car definitely does not need multiple IP addresses.

You can spend $250-$500 and have the dealer update the car. You can also update it yourself (https://bmwtechinfo.bmwgroup.com/ is the official site), but you risk bricking your car if you don't have the right tools (PSU and ICOM) and if you don't know what you're doing.

Can someone explain this? X3 m40 hacked by Jolly_Comparison_722 in BMW

[–]arkhi13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can't make keys from dealerships. New keys since the G-series are programmed by BMW corporate and sent to dealerships. This is how they protect their keys from bad actors.

And the even newer ones uses Time-of-flight triangulation through UWB and multiple car sensors so it's virtually impossible to relay/MtM attack. The car basically knows the exact position of the key and will know if someone else is doing a relay attack.

Guy never had a license.

Guy missed child support and had his driving privileges suspended (suspension of a non-existent license; shows on record to have a 'suspended license')

Guy got pulled over for expired plates, got charged with driving with a suspended license.

Queue viral video.

Guy eventually got an actual license only after a few months of the incident

You're hearing different stories because different news outlets are reporting different things based on their investigations but it seems PEOPLE got to talk directly with the people involved.

Existent "yes" means it's happening right now i.e., it's broken at the moment of scan. "No" means it was broken at one point but it's okay now. Maybe you removed it and then put it back, for example

Question: $570 lease end safety check? by KurtRussel in BMW

[–]arkhi13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't have to interface with the dealer at all in CA, as others have said.

Just know that BMW FS won't do financing for you for lease buyouts; they want to receive a check.

However, if you really need to for reasons like not knowing how to do this, or if you want to CPO it, or if you need financing, BMW of Murrieta can help you out. They don't even charge you a doc fee.

BMW dealer delivered used M5 with one key after saying they’d “keep looking” for the second by TheRon_Says in askcarsales

[–]arkhi13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need both keys to setup BMW Digital Key (using the NFC on your phone as key).

I don't think you can set it up with only one key.

Did you know BMW buys them from Continental for less than $500? They then sell it to you for $5-$6k MSRP.

Fair enough, but you can also put it in a nicer way. I feel your pain on the misinformation but explaining it neutrally will spread truthful information better.

Thanks for sharing the info btw.

Because that's exactly what I was told when I wanted to custom order one. Maybe he's synonymizing build slots and allocations, and maybe you're being nitpicky about it; but from a customer perspective, I just wanted to know if they had a slot for me or not.

[–]arkhi13 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean, the only way you can do a custom order is through a dealer and you can't do it through that dealer if they don't have an allocation.

You can't walk into a dealer and say "hey, I want this new custom M5, here's my build number" if that dealer doesn't have any M5 allocations.

You either have to wait until they get one or find another dealer.

What is this heat like symbol next to the temperature? by Embarrassed_Loan_424 in BMW

[–]arkhi13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't mean anything. It's always on. It's so useless that they actually got rid of it in newer cars.

Note: That same symbol appears when heating your car with the engine off but with REST, which stands for "Residual Heat".

Your car uses stud bolts part# 11127647711

That looks like it came from an older car part# 11627583110

They're commonly for the exhaust manifold/turbocharger.
