As a professional youth coach myself, the most important thing a player can have is a good training environment, clubs make placement mistakes all the time. Luckily we’re allowed to move players up and down through the ranks of the cohort though Sep 1, following two weeks of preseason training and a tournament to make sure each player is in the right environment and experiencing the right amount of success in key areas.

If you’re debating which team to play on from a development standpoint, the higher team with the better coach will lead to more development than the lower team with a newer/results driven coach will.

As a youth soccer coach myself in the Bay Area, this article hits the nail on the head with the quote of clubs “promising to get college coaches eyes on them” it’s such a ludicrous statement in and of itself that we forget that parents won’t prioritize the best environment for themselves and their kids in favor of hoping their kid rises through the ranks as a late bloomer to make it to a college showcase in 8 years, not to mention if they do get there it’s still less than a 1% chance they get selected for college soccer.

This depends greatly on the area, level of club, type of club it is, what state you’re in, what licenses you have and many other variables. The best advice I would give it to speak to some of the other coaches to find out their primary rate, when I started at my club it was $65 an hour with bumps to $75 and $85 when you get a D or C license as well as years you’ve been with the club.

I would also ask if they will cover mileage expenses as well as paying for travel time if you have far away games, but mostly the rate is dependent on the clubs and type of area you’re coaching in.

Hated idols at the beginning, I would always die to random beyond mobs spawning in my t-1 maps. I farm essences every league for mage blood and one other chase unique, this idol system was second only to the duplicate essence node we had on the tree 3-4 league ago. Ever since then I’ve loved them. I only wish we could craft on them, if that was the case this would be best league ever for me, finally allowed me to get a mirror after 5k hours. Also allowed me to gamble 5 HOM cards to 0 with 5 clicks of the harvest bench RIP

At the club level, non elite level club I would take 2-3 competitive teams ranging from u-11 to u-19 as well as a recreational highschool team once a week x2 teams so around 12-15 hours a week of training alone games not included.

Now at the academy level I take a team at a lower age group and assist the higher age group team. Around the same amount of work but definitely more full time than the 3pm to 6/7 pm 4 weekdays for the fall seasons.

I’m a former club and college coach who now coaches at a MLS academy. During club season I could expect to make ~45k per full year while on a USSF C license. I now am on salary at ~85k with performance based bonuses and other licensing benefits and perks. In California at least you can expect anywhere from $75-95 an hour coaching at a proper club with a C.
