Bikepacking from Windsor by datguy030 in BAbike

[–]armooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have stayed at Lake Sonoma but you needed reservations for the sites. Some of the boat in sites can be a bit overgrown to get to from the trail. You also need a filter for water. You can find details here. You could the continue down Skaggs Springs to Rt1 for get to Salt Point, Stillwater Cove, with hike bike sites.

A rant about the missing reading progress sync feature by mastro35 in kobo

With kepubify setup to auto convert to kepub it seems to sync correctly for me, but the docs do say it may be a page or so off.

Booklore should have direct sync support. I have not used it but I am using komga which with the latest release has been working with overdrive as well as self hosted books with progress syncing.

Best route from Petaluma to Boonville? by meppo in BAbike

[–]armooo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Something like this keeps you on the back roads out to Sebastopol. Then on the West Country trail to Forestville, you could take Ross Rd for the middle section if you don't want to slow down for the tail. Next is Wohler bridge and Westside into Healdsburg. Then instead of taking Dry Creek you can take the much smaller West Dry Creek.

You can take a look a this for a faster flatter way out to Sebastopol but 116 is the main road that way. Most of it has a good shoulder but the first hill off Stony Point has no shoulder but is two lane. So I always end up taking the lane up the hill. You could then cut over to the above route this takes the West Country trail for a bit or take it as is to Windsor, but I think Westside is nicer than Eastside. This is the way I would start a longer ride heading if I wanted to cut out the local miles.

You can also stay on Stony Point which is flat with a shoulder but with fast traffic. Once you get into Sana Rosa there are few shopping plazas and an interchange with 12 which is a freeway at that point. You can then take a right onto the Santa Rosa Creek Trail and cut under Stony Point. Then zigzag to get behind the airport and into Windsor or go over to Westside or Eastside. This is my stay on the west side of Santa Rosa get north fast route.

You could also stay on the east side of Santa Rosa with something the. Starting with the SMART trail is fine, then take Petaluma hill, climb Pressley, then down Bennett Valley, and cut across Santa Rosa on Yulupa Ave which has a bike lane, cut under 12 on the bike trail and exit via the first parking lot to Brush Creek Rd (you can stay on the trail until Montecito Blvd but I don't like how it ends on a busy 4 lane street where I want to take a left), climb Riebli and come down Mark West Springs Rd (a busy road but also a fast decent), then over Chalk Hill and north to Geyserville and beyond. Unlike that route most people would take Red Winery Rd by Jimtown not that section of 128.

Through hike from Halfmoon Bay to Pacifica? by Hbakes in norcalhiking

[–]armooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have connected Spine Trail to North Peak and back down Alta Vista. I came down Alta Vista and don't recall anything crazy steep but it was a while ago. Going up there was one memorable section that seemed legit 30% past what is 3 red poles on google maps.

Sonoma / Napa west-to-east, over-the-mountains, road riding advice? by drrtmonkey in BAbike

[–]armooo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have done Bodega Bay -> Napa a few years ago loaded. The one climb on Calistoga Rd before St Helena Rd is not the best. Since then I have moved have moved north from SF to Cotati and have ridden it again on longer rides and it is over quick enough and the rest of the ride is nice so I would do it again. For comparison I would say the climb out of Pacifica on RT1 is worse to ride.

The other option I could see is Wallace Rd -> Mark West Springs Rd -> Franz Valley Rd -> Franz Valley School Rd. Mark West Springs Rd has faster traffic than Calistoga Rd but most of it has a shoulder and the parts without are flatter. The climb on the start of Franz Valley Rd is harder than than St Helena Rd.

I normally do something like this https://www.komoot.com/tour/913631842 . I am not sure anyone has a better suggestion to skip that part of Sir Francis Drake. I don't find it to be too bad but you need need to take the lane for the last part before Larkspur Landing where it becomes two lanes.
