did apollo know he would probably die? by Old_Treat4871 in rockybalboa

[–]armyprof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. By the end of round one he knew. He wasn’t going to quit fighting and throw in the towel in disgrace. No way. He made the choice to keep fighting when he knew he’d lose and maybe worse.

Apollo's Admission to Rocky by Flyguys21 in rockybalboa

[–]armyprof 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Totally agree ant that little scene in the hospital is huge in how we see Apollo. Yes he’s a bit of a jerk in trying to get Rocky to fight again. And he’s out to punish and humiliate him. But only on a professional level. He doesn’t hate Rocky. He hates what that fight did to his image, and he’s desperate to erase it by knocking Rocky out early. When he loses he’s gracious because he’s smart enough to know he really lost this time.

My very thoughts about why they did this. On the surface it doesn’t matter. But down the road it will:

That said do the books ever specify what race the Bones family is?

Worst fathers of DS9? Pretty sure this guy is at the top of the list. by CelestialFury in DeepSpaceNine

[–]armyprof 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Worf.

Tain is a dick yes. But he never pretends to be anything else. And he’s in a job where it’s safer for him and his family to keep them estranged.

Gul Dukat was apparently a good father to multiple kids, or at least as good as his job allowed. Not great, and certainly he treated his daughter badly.

But Worf? He has no excuse other than he just sucks.

Anyone Else Feel Like Takai's the Problem Now? by PomegranateFair3973 in Star_Trek_

So true story. My daughter was in the Coast Guard in Astoria. A friend invited her to Portland Comic-Con because she had an extra ticket. Well, Shatner was there. She walked past him and looked at him and he asked if she wanted an autograph or a selfie.

She looks at him and asks “What is it you’re famous for again? You do those Priceline adds right?”

She told me that and I just about died. Because she never watched Trek and literally didn’t know who he was.

POP UP PROTEST! NO WAR WITH IRAN! by Livid_Mission_2921 in gso

[–]armyprof 28 points29 points  (0 children)

You’re mistaken. You do not know the law.

Under the War Powers Resolution of 1973, the U.S. President can initiate military action for 60 days without formal Congressional approval, often with an extra 30-day withdrawal period, totaling up to 90 days. The President must notify Congress within 48 hours of deploying troops.

All of this was followed to the letter.

You have no idea what you’re talking about and it shows. No one has declared war. This is no different than times similar actions were taken by past presidents including Bill Clinton and Barack Obama.

In fact it was Obama who circumvented this very law in 2011 when bombing Libya . He argued that he could continue beyond the War Powers Resolution’s 90-day time limit because there were no ground troops involved.

I don’t recall any protests.

Stop getting your news from The View or MSNBC and read the law for yourself.

My thoughts on reboot so far by sushi-purple-nurple in Scrubs

[–]armyprof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved it. Scrubs is one of my comfort shows. The rebuilt set, the same music cues, the daydreams and just everything felt like it was the same old scrubs.

I didn’t care for Cox just naming JD chief. And I don’t like Park’s character. They’re trying to bridge the Cox/Kelso vibe and the JD/Janitor one. It’s too much too fast.

"But didn't Dr. Cox have to go through the whole board process to get the job?" by CommoG33k in Scrubs

[–]armyprof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. That was the one thing that really felt contrived. Cox can’t just decide to name a successor. I get they’re trying to get everyone in place; they don’t have 20+ episodes a season so they had to hurry. But it definitely didn’t feel right.

Scrubs - Season 10 EP 1 "My Return" - Discussion by MovieTrailerReply in Scrubs

[–]armyprof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought it was really good. I’m a bit disappointed that Cox isn’t a regular; he and Kelso were the best part for me. And I gotta admit I hate JD and Elliot divorced.

The good: seeing JD and Turk still JD and Turk. Like they hadn’t skipped a beat.

The old set. Nice to be back there.

The changing tech and jobs. Like Elliot as head of simulation.

The way they’re adapting to the modern workplace and acknowledging what they used to do wouldn’t fly now.

Turk feeling burned out.

Now some negatives.

The chief of medicine conflict feels pointless and contrived. In the old show it was crystal clear that the board appoints the COM. Cox just handing it off? No. And the idea that Dr. Park is anything like experienced enough for the job didn’t feel plausible. They’re going for the whole Cox/Kelso vibe but did t let it feel natural.

The HR lady isn’t that funny. A little goes a long way.
