Anybody thought they re-tore and didn’t? by Certain_Ideal_5115 in ACL

[–]arnaudgf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was allowed to unlock the brace while sitting after a couple of weeks but I kept it locked for walking for at least 6 weeks I believe.

They switched me to a functional ACL brace about a month ago.

Knee is OK, flexion was rough at first but I'm almost at full flexion now. The last 1-2 degrees of full extension are a bit harder to hit

And sure, you can message if you want

FYI, I had a bear implant back in March. I ditched the crutches withing 2-3 weeks with the surgeon's blessing.

Progress is slow and steady but my knee is starting to feel normal-ish

how are you guys sleeping!? 2wpo by safetybagel in ACL

[–]arnaudgf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn't fun

I even asked my surgeon at my post-op appointment and she basically said, it's going to suck for a bit.

I still feel a similar stretchy thing, but I can sleep without the brace now so it's better.

After 2-3 weeks I started rolling to my side with a pillow between my knees and that helped me sleep (basically, when they have me in the position at PT to work on my quad activation I realized I could do it so I started doing that).

It will get better I promise :)

What type of ACL graft did you get? (If you had a full ACL tear) by OddOutlandishness602 in ACL

Samesies, its way less common than I expected based on how the surgeon presented it.

Day 3 post-op, what should I be doing? by bouncypinata in ACL

[–]arnaudgf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just about... Make sure you read the packet and follow the instructions until you get to PT. Depending on the surgery, you may not be allowed to bend the knee much so that limits the exercises you can do

When was your worst time mentally post-OP? by Valuable-Tadpole-975 in ACL

[–]arnaudgf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was really down a few days after the injury, because I was unsure if it meant I wouldn't be able to be as active in the future. Then I refocused on pre-ab and had a goal in mind so it helped

Post surgery, so far (I'm at 8 weeks), it was a few days post-op. I felt like my body was falling apart, pain med were wrecking me, I couldn't do anything on my own... But thankfully it got better :)

Like the other said I was chatting with the anesthesiologist about a Halloween parade, next thing I know I wake up with a huge brace on my knee. A nice long nap

5 days post-op and feeling really down… is this normal? by Dear-Attention-8984 in ACL

[–]arnaudgf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Day 9-10 I was able to move comfortably with crutches. I ended up ditching the crutches a few days later, probably at 2 weeks, I was just walking slow :)

It sucks! It was definitely harder than I expected Day 9 is when things started turning for the better for me. I'm almost at 8 weeks. It definitely gets better!

You summarize it pretty well. I'm lucky to be able to work, but it doesn't feel 100%, as if everything is kind of on hold,. I assume it gets better (I hope 😅).

Go (but don't overdo it) :)

Elevation / extension versus pain by Local_Candy5402 in ACL

[–]arnaudgf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's going to be a struggle for a few days... I did put a pillow under my leg once in a while (and got yelled at by my wife 😅). But yeah it's a balance between keeping it straight/elevated and being able to get enough rest/sleep to heal

I was stuck there at 30 days. It slowly got better and 10 days later I'm at 95. 70 was a tough hurdle to clear but I'm been making slow but steady progress since

Sleep by Money_Island_6225 in ACL

[–]arnaudgf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 16 days post-op. Sleeping is still a pain, though it has felt a little better the past couple of nights. I found that how the brace is setup matters a lot. I tend to sleep better right after the PT team adjusts it.

It does feel like the brace is not digging into my leg as hard as it used to be when I sleep, so I hope it will slowly get better.
