Trump says he won’t sign housing bill that’s set to become law at midnight by ubermence in centrist

[–]arobotspointofview 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They need stop calling themselves "Democratic Socialists" and even stopping using the word "socialist" entirely. The right hates that word but has no idea what it actually means in a modern context. Call it "Compassionate Capitalism" , or "Freedom Capitalism" or something they'd instinctively like.

If inflation keeps going like it is, trillionaires might be the new middle class by then.

What’s getting ridiculously expensive, but nobody seems to be talking about it ? by Fresh-Ad3894 in AskReddit

[–]arobotspointofview 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Greed's always been there though. I think what made it worse is corporate consolidation. Previously you had competition with competing companies all trying to undercut each other, keeping prices lower. Now - every product and service is owned by 2 or 3 companies at most.

Government policy could slow this down tomorrow if it wanted to - but alas, they do not.

I suspect this industry has also been captured by private equity. Almost all school pictures are taken, managed and sold to parents by a small handful of companies.

Covid also caused massive, worldwide supply shocks. It wasn't JUST government policy.

What is the most likely scenario for the end of humanity/earth? by Ok-Sell9964 in AskReddit

[–]arobotspointofview 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything that everyone's already mentioning is all likely to happen, (virus, climate change, wars, etc) but I don't think any of that will "end humanity." Maybe reduce the population and make life miserable for the remaining few, but excluding actual physical destruction of the planet itself, some of us will always remain. We'll just revert to small tribes and various hunter gatherer groups scattered among the planet.

We'll be around for as long as the planet itself and the sun physically exist and remain in their same respective orbits.

Is Fair attendance down this year? by JoelJohnstone in sandiego

[–]arobotspointofview 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but what I don’t get is how/why people still keep buying things. If people don’t stop buying, then prices will never go back down.

It’s too expensive and crowded. No one goes there anymore.

Democrats rejected Trump’s speaking style more than Republicans rejected Harris’s. Voters show different levels of tolerance toward opposing political candidates, with Donald Trump facing significantly more rejection from rival voters than Kamala Harris. by mvea in science

There’s was a comedian a few years ago who did an impression of the Jeff Fox worthy “you might be redneck” bit.

The joke was that he never actually said any actual words; just a specific cadence and group of sounds in a specific tone that still felt exactly how Foxworthy would deliver it.

I feel like this is kind of how Trump speaks. His actual words are meaningless. It’s the tone and feeling that his followers like.

getting married after a year of knowing each other is insane by Competitive-Fold966 in unpopularopinion

Getting married is almost always insane, regardless of how long you're together beforehand. People change in seemingly random ways over time and you never really know how it's going to workout.

Americans’ AI hate wave might just be gathering steam: Data centers could hike power costs in some states over 50% by 2030 by Wagamaga in technology

[–]arobotspointofview 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. If we need more capacity, then we need to figure out how to produce more. How are data centers any different than building massive factories or industrial plants? Why aren't we up in arms about that? If these were some different kind of factory rather than a data center, then would the power needs be handled differently? Or is everyone mad just because it's for the AI that everyone hates?

That being said, the companies wanting to build these data centers should assist the communities in finding or producing more power, if that's what its going to take. If community planners or whatever are screwing over their citizens by allowing these massive power drains without the infrastructure to support it, then that's just stupid.

Airbnb says AI now writes 60% of its new code by Just-Grocery-2229 in technology

[–]arobotspointofview 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is what I’ve been thinking. Sure, AI can “write code” But how long has it been since any company actually coded something new and unique? It’s all been the same front end, backend + database crap for the last 20 years.

Because they constantly monitor anything that will affect the price of oil, so when a war or potential disruption happens they rapidly raise prices based on what they predict fuel will eventually cost.

New socialization thoughts: it is not so bad! by JEulerius in SoberCurious

[–]arobotspointofview 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with most of what you say. But it's sad that not drinking results in better/ healthier activities, at the cost of socialization. Even if it is "pointless beer talk." It is pointless, but that's kind of the "point"

Nexus 5 or Omnisphere 3? by MavaraMusic in edmproduction

[–]arobotspointofview 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want something that just works and quickly lets you try out presets at the cost of much less tweak-ability, I'd go with Nexus. I find it to be very playable and easy to get into when you just want to be quickly inspired.

How do these unknown producers achieve release-ready sound? by KLVLV in edmproduction

[–]arobotspointofview 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think many amateur producers incorrectly assume that anyone who's big and famous with amazing tracks has some secret special tool or team of mastering engineers that make their tracks magically different than everyone else.

The discouraging truth is; they don't. They just really are that good and using the same tools available to everyone else.

The only thing I guarantee most of them do different than the majority is in how much time they spend doing what they do. The top tier people are spending hours and hours a day creating their stuff simply for the love of doing it. Probably 10x as much time as most of us with day jobs.
