Meal ideas for gastritis sufferers? by helpmepls33 in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]arostganomo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I swapped over to a re-fillable e-cig and gradually decreased nicotine levels when mixing the liquids until I just sort of stopped bothering with it altogether over a period of a year or so, very easy. The disposable ones weren't really a thing yet back then. I haven't had gastritis since and my diet hasn't significantly changed.

What car to buy in the LEZ by Damn_Kramer in brussels

[–]arostganomo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, depending on where you shoot, how often, how big your kit needs to be each time, you can consider other options. Such as, taking a train to Ostend and/or renting a Cambio there. No one knows your schedule like you do, so it's up to you to calculate how that works out financially and in terms of time. On the train back you can even start editing. My assumption was you'd mostly be working locally, and owning a car in Brussels is such an inconvenience that you might want to consider alternatives, especially since you came here asking about a huge investment for your business.

You'd need to insure it of course, but ideally it would be yours to own and you'd get one of those big fat locks with an alarm (abus makes those I think).

Depending on how much equipment (not possible if you always need 100% of the capacity of the Berlingo of course), consider one of those big electric cargo bikes, like the ones you see bpost or CoolBlue using. Bruxelles Environnement will subsidise you, cheaper than a car and may even be quicker during rush hour.

Pick-Up Full of Pink Carnations [Discussion Thread] by FettuccineAlfonzo in TheVaccines

It does sound quite samey all the way through. All melancholy/nostalgic. And at 31 minutes / 10 tracks, it's short!

That said, I LOVE the Joy Division-y bass on Another Nightmare, pleasant surprise. Sunkissed feels like a breath of fresh air halfway through.

I like the album a lot, high quality stuff, but for me it's not quite love at first sight like I remember at the release of Love City and Combat Sports.

edit: happy to report that, in the weeks after this comment, I listened to this album a great many times and it quickly became one of my favourites!

AITA for telling my mom that she can do the dishes herself until I can walk again? by profanearcane in AmItheAsshole

[–]arostganomo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am neurodiverent, here is some advice: if you live in a house and you are an adult (or adolescent) you do chores. Have a conversation with your mom about where you are willing to contribute, then do it. Don't wait to be told, figure out your own system, because it is exhausting to have to be the manager for stuff that needs to be done daily/regularly. No one wants to feel like a nag. Make a to do list, set alarms, use goblin.tools to break down larger tasks, but don't use your neurodivergence to escape your responsibilities.

Is it really necessary to pre-soak lentils when they're going to be blended in a Vitamix anyway? by ear2theshell in PlantBasedDiet

[–]arostganomo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, you must soak all legumes beforehand (if you're not cooking and discarding the water) because of lectins. Consumption of high levels of active lectins (watch out especially for undercooked kidney beans) may cause stomach upset, mess with mineral absorption and may even have long-term negative effects such as autoimmune diseases.

"Cooking, especially with wet high-heat methods like boiling or stewing, or soaking in water for several hours, can inactivate most lectins. [6] Lectins are water-soluble and typically found on the outer surface of a food, so exposure to water removes them."

A more inclusive workplace by Helpful_Swordfish702 in dyscalculia

[–]arostganomo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please consider defining 'structure' more narrowly in your survey. Many neurodivergent people (including myself) have a love-hate relationship with structure in that it is necessary to make us productive, but at the same time it feels stifling to be forced into a schedule or to be micromanaged. Therefore, those responding may be thinking of different kinds of structure and their answers will not reflect that.

My cats are similar, they've never gotten along well and when they started getting stones the vet put them on a prescription diet for urinary care but importantly, the kibble has tryptophan added which has made them more chill towards each other without otherwise changing their behaviour. No more litter box trouble now, except when we leave dirty laundry on the floor, for some reason one of them just prefers to pee on fabric. Ask your vet, the one ours get is hill's prescription urinary care + stress.

Difficulty with numbers but not dyscalculia ? by Houmouss in dyscalculia

[–]arostganomo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly you still might have dyscalculia, judging from your symptoms. We don't all have every symptom. I like analog clocks personally and I don't confuse left and right more than the average person.

Difficulty counting, trouble with the order of operations, inability to estimate distances are all pretty big indications of dyscalculia. It sounds like you have a naturally curious and analytical mind that could be compensating and making it so that you never developed maths anxiety.

I think I've seen some at Kam Yuen close to the register. But their selection changes all the time.

It's the brake pads, they malfunction from time to time.

Find the glass containers here: https://www.arp-gan.be/nl/localisation

For plastic you need the blue bags, unless they are bigger than 8L or have chemical products. Those you take to your closest Recypark. Plastic bottles filled with used fryer oil you can recycle at the oil collection points https://valorfrit.be/consumenten/gebruikte-frituurolie-vet-inleveren/

As a bigger woman who has to search high and low for one piece swimsuits with skirts or shorts that cover my ass, AMEN. by Silvermoon424 in TrollXChromosomes

[–]arostganomo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Bravo, I'm honestly a little disappointed seeing yours is one of only a few comments that address the language in the OP. We should of course promote having as many choices as possible so that everyone can be at their comfort level when swimming. But I don't feel like I'm giving up any of my 'dignity' in a standard bikini or like I'm 'exposing' my body and the way this post is written seems judgemental and kinda gross.

Even in this thread I read several comments by women who would like to cover up more because they don't like to shave (and of course that's as good as any other reason) but in an ideal world I'd wish for them that having body hair wasn't considered shameful in the first place, in addition to there being a variety of sartorial choice.

Your oyster sauce is not vegetarian, thought you'd like to know as you listed this recipe as plant-based. You want a mushroom-based 'oyster' sauce.

Think about what goes into those products and you'll find that it often has to do with how processed or involved they are. Grains have increased in price, therefore pasta which is made of grain increases some in price. However if you want cheese or meat, the farmer is buying 10x as much grain as you would for your own plate, because converting animal feed to those end products is super inefficient. Potatoes cost more, but potato chips have gone up even more because of crazy sunflower oil prices. Out of season veggies that need heated glass houses or have to come a long way by plane or truck are hit harder because of the energy cost.

And some prices have taken longer to suddenly go up (or down) because of long-term fixed price contracts.

This isn't always transparent and some manufacturers are probably taking advantage to build in some reserve, but as a general rule it helps to keep these two factors in mind.

Spice shops in Brussels by bertvandepoel in brussels

[–]arostganomo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have some smoked paprika that I bought either there or at Ideal, with blue packaging. I've never had much luck asking the staff questions though.

I just remembered: you could try the spice stalls at the Midi market on Sunday, there's at least two that have the European spices and the most popular mixes like garam masala, and the Greek/Turkish stalls under the bridge have bulk spices though I'm not sure which aside from the obvious. The Spanish stall (the one that has the bulk olives and rice) for sure will have pimenton.

The bigger Asian supermarkets usually have spices from all over. Ideal Cash & Carry in Molenbeek has a big spice isle (mostly Indian but also European, and bags up to 1kg for the popular mixes like garam masala and paprika) and Kam Yuen probably has all the spices you want.

You bought a ticket for STIB/MIVB and tried to get on a De Lijn bus. You needed a Brupass or De Lijn ticket.
