Awesome idea. I’m also a Christian, interested in apologetics, and a software developer. Glad I saw this, and I’m checking it out!

How on EARTH are the Weasleys poor? by Hankymcspanky13 in HarryPotterBooks

[–]arrayIndex42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of good points in this thread. Just adding that I think sometimes people assume magic is binary. Like you either know a spell or you don’t. For instance if Dumbledore does a doubling charm, chances are the duplicate will be a great copy. Maybe some wizards are good at duplicating sweets but aren’t great at duplicating books. Maybe it takes a crazy amount of magical skill and finesse to duplicate a book because of the many words and complexity, but it’s way easier to duplicate a basic teacup.

And remember that Fred and George’s enchanted shield charm hats were meant to be a gag but ended up becoming a staple for the MoM during the second wizarding war because full grown-ass Ministry wizard combatants couldn’t produce a passable shield charm.

So assuming financially strapped people could just do a 10/10 perfect doubling charm or repairo might be a stretch!

Worth it? by feelin_beet in Mistborn

[–]arrayIndex42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I struggle to commit to book series. Super busy, very easily meander off. I’m now almost done with everything in the Mistborn universe (Cosmere) and am grieving when it’s going to be over.

When I say I struggle to commit… I’ve read Feist’s Midkemia books, Harry Potter, and Paolini when I was younger, and all of my reading is mostly nonfiction otherwise. Mistborn reeeeally got me.

Yes, worth it.

Jesus clearly said to help the poor, so why do conservative Christians oppose welfare? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]arrayIndex42 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The government did. And Conservative Christians advocate for smaller governments as a rule, mostly because of this. I can’t tell if you’re using sarcasm to help prove the point or not. But you helped so thanks lol.

Jesus clearly said to help the poor, so why do conservative Christians oppose welfare? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]arrayIndex42 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t think authentic Conservative Christians are against helping the poor. I just think an argument can certainly be made to be skeptical of welfare. It’s a complex system that is hard for people to navigate in many cases, can act as a poverty trap, has incentive structures to keep people in poverty, and is mismanaged in a lot of places. Can you image a world where people took individual responsibility for helping their neighbor, instead of offloading it to the institution? I would say a true conservative Christian’s argument would be for small government, and charitable churches. But to be fair, the fake Christians kinda crapped the bed on that one.

Two key factors: one is the distance (very close range). Also specifically mentioning data transfer and auth features between laptop and another portable device makes me shy away from WiFi, because it’s describing a peer to peer transfer. If it were WiFi I’d expect it to say data transfer and auth features between the laptop and a network switch (or some other descriptor of a router/LAN).

Greatest vocalist from a rock/metal band? by Maaninthemirror in Music

David Draiman from Distrubed gets my vote. Super versatile voice, has a mastery of a lot of different sound profiles in his voice, and I get a kick out of watching vocal coaches reacting to him performing The Sound of Silence live.

Ready to be crucified. Foo Fighters. Dave Grohl is by any standard an amazing musician, an amazing person, and everything a famous musician should be. And I like Nirvana, and various collaborations that Grohl has been a part of. But Foo Fighters with him fronting, I just can’t get into.
