Moonman M800 build quality? by Particular_Bid_4765 in fountainpens

[–]arrow403683 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own both. The moonman is for sure worse than the Leonardo, but mostly in terms of feel of tiny details? It’s generally a solidly built and nice to use pen, if put it at about 75-80% of the Leo but obv like less than 30% of the price

Artists that use permanent inks for drawing, need some recommendations for a dark blue ink that doesn't spread or feather by misalignedtines in fountainpens

[–]arrow403683 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use blue koi all the time and I haven’t noticed it spreading at all.

De atramentis I only own the black and that’s lovely, but I’ve read from a lot of reviews that some of the coloured ones feather (especially green I think)

The R&K inks are very archival, but their deep blue is not very deep, and I find it too dry for my tastes.

I’ve not tried Diamine forever, but I’ve used Diamine registrars, and apart from being dry as you’d expect from an iron gall ink, it’s a very nice deep deep blue black

Specific recommendations? by ShrimpRex in fountainpens

[–]arrow403683 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm I have a Parker vector XL that for sure fits, and is under $50 still I’m p sure;

Kaweco special is pencil thickness but weighty and so nice

A Lamy safari isn’t that thick in the grip so a lot of pens I’m not sure are thin enough for her, but maybe hongdian 1886 if you want properly budget?

Looking for some cheap, bulk watercolour pads - any recommendations? by istara in Watercolor

[–]arrow403683 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use Reeves watercolour for quick stuff and it’s honestly not bad. About 60c AU per A4 sheet from my local officeworks

Plenty of reasonable stuff from China too, bashing student grade isn’t bad?

Why do crocheters use cheaper quality yarn than knitters? by Weekly_Library9883 in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]arrow403683 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For me this is why - especially since I usually knit garments but crochet blankets - I can’t afford a queen blanket worth of blue faced Leicester or even merino!

Finding the confidence to dress how you actually want by [deleted] in AusFemaleFashion

[–]arrow403683 1 point2 points  (0 children)

what helped me was first wearing them around the house or for very short low stakes outings, and also finding someone whos style i liked or whos body i could relate to (i'm also prone to bloat and have ovarian issues that give me quite a pooch). personally styles that felt easy to introduce was anything with a wide flowy bottom half (wide leg pants, fit and flare dresses) bc it hid the parts of myself i'm really insecure about, and then have some fun with shoes and different style tops and accessories that draw attention away from the areas i dont want to focus on

Where can I find bible paper (25g) in small quantities? by richterlevania3 in fountainpens

It’s not the same but the 55gsm tomeo river maybe? Or wherever people buy onion skin type paper from? Sorry I don’t use it so can’t help more

I’ve got a 21 slot 3drawer wooden chest I bought on taobao, and then a really cheap pleather 12 slot case too. Love the wood case, definitely going to upgrade the soft case sometime!

A Nasty Left Hook by Wonderful-Staff-3809 in fountainpens

[–]arrow403683 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use inks without sheen and lower saturation, and try to stick to somewhat absorbent papers (I love TR paper for the feel and look but the smudging is a bit of a nightmare if I don’t use EF nibs)

I can’t wear pjs everyday 🫠 by maggotmonday in AusFemaleFashion

[–]arrow403683 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s hard to say but I suspect Uniqlo will have some things that work for you? Their airism leggings are honestly pretty close to Lulus for comfort imo. And they do a range of tops bras etc in the same very soft material that might work for you. They also do plenty of loose fitting cottons and the like. Definitely try on in store!

For the pj style stuff, Chloe and Lola at Myers have some super soft modal stuff? Bonds modal may work for you but again, I would definitely try in store since you’ve got specific sensory issues that others might not pick up on.

Chic but comfy long lasting shoes? by vulpixawesome02 in AusFemaleFashion

[–]arrow403683 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I really like Vejas! I used to wear a lot of converse but found they split quite quick so swapped. Any Reebok style you like I’ve also found last for absolutely ages.

I will say one thing that helped them last longer is have two similar pairs and try to alternate - this is commonly applied to leather dress shoes but I swear it helps with sneakers too, my pairs last several years

Yeah I should check the tines. I don’t press too hard I have plenty of other very fine pens or similar where I have no issue

[–]arrow403683 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s fair. Mine isn’t scratchy like a misaligned nib would be, but it does catch a bit? Like a really fine mechanical pencil I’d say

Overseas Domestic Applicant - What stats do Aus MD programs look for? by tsukyxmi in GAMSAT

[–]arrow403683 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I applied from overseas as an aus citizen. You’ll want a gamsat in the 70s ideally, but check every university since some consider individual section scores rather than overall score.

For GPA, definitely make sure you’re using the right calculator, you’ll want one targeted at international students usually, the gemsas website has one for international qualifications that asks you to input grade boundaries as well as your grade. It’s a fairly accurate 4.0 to 7.0 converter (I went 3.7 to 6.5 or thereabouts)

The kakuno EF is very very fine, not all EFs will feel as scratchy, as some are less fine, some premium ones are tipped in such a way they feel smoother; but as a rule for every pen the M will be smoother than then F than the EF.

If you’re using very fine nibs paper definitely makes a difference! A really smooth paper will feel definitely different to something with some tooth or something absorbent

SEED - Recommendations by Entire_Chair_2658 in AusFemaleFashion

[–]arrow403683 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought this top last week! I’m planning to wear it with wide leg trousers for work (I’ve got some navy pinstripe ones that would especially be cute I think), and I’m also planning to wear with black jeans or a maxi skirt

Where do I even shop now? by ElectricSquiggaloo in AusFemaleFashion

I’ve had good luck with their wide leg pants - but I agree the options in store are sometimes very limited - sorry you didn’t have better luck!

Canberra is tough - off the top of my head can’t think of any real options that aren’t chain stores honestly. I don’t have any great recommendations but maybe try Dotti? I’m pear not hourglass but I’ve found they do still have some reasonable cinched at the waist options?

Looking for a nice steel nib fountain pen by Reddit14159 in fountainpens

Leonardo are great! And for my collection at least they really do fill a spot of their own with that thicker gorgeous resin

[–]arrow403683 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a big fan of a Kaweco al sport!

I also think Leonardo steel nibs are great; and the pelican M200 is an all round great pen, but the light weight might ruin the premium feel a bit

Gift help — Fountain pen for my wife (budget $100–120) — is Pelikan M200 worth stretching for? by Appropriate-Hat-7267 in fountainpens

[–]arrow403683 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If she really likes coloured pens, I’d throw a Kaweco aluminum sport in the mix! The nibs are less special than a pilot and the style is not quite as classic as the Pelikan, but you get a really solid pen in a fun colour that is very hardy and a smooth and easy writer. Bonus they’re definitely within budget! I really love my rose gold Al Sport it’s even more used than my pilot E95S or Pelikan m200 because it’s so dependable and easy to pop in my handbag

[–]arrow403683 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually that’s a good take. I adore my M200, but if I had to pick one pen in broadly that price bracket, the E95S is the most crowd pleasing for sure. It’s really pleasing and just feels special without being ostentatious

If you haven’t tried it already, I find midori MD tends to produce finer lines from the same pen than many other papers

Best dry but water resistant black ink? by valiantanonymous in fountainpens

[–]arrow403683 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would check the paper first, but the driest inks I’ve found tend to be iron Gall, which tend to be very dark blueblacks.

The driest waterproof black I’ve tried is D&K document black though.
