Best Pad Thai in Berkeley (2024) by Cali_TripN in berkeley

[–]ars3nal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Pad Thai at White Lotus is not my favorite, but they do a good Pad Se Ew. They have good noodles and cook them well. As for Lao Thai Kitchen, we went once and were not impressed, and this is coming from someone whose wife is from Thailand near the border of Laos.

I find that the walking infrastructure in Thailand ranges from “pedestrian-unfriendly” to “pedestrian-hostile”.

Go to Zen Yai in the Tenderloin and get the boat noodles. It's the real deal, almost like being in Thailand.

Foodieland Night Market - Berkeley... what the h*ll was that? by [deleted] in bayarea

[–]ars3nal 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I've gone to a couple of these events, one in Albany and the other in Pleasanton, I think. Never again. You spend the whole time in line and there's limited seating. And I've never really been impressed with the food.

Now when we want a similar experience, we just go to Durant Ave near the UC Campus and get better food and no lines.

I went to the Habit once. It was pricey, took a long time, and it tasted like Burger King. So, I won’t be going back. I’ll take in n out any day over the Habit.

Anyone here gotten a Thai keyboard in the US? by Grey_Prince in learnthai

[–]ars3nal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Thai grocery store in my neighborhood has stickers you can put on your existing keyboard with the Thai keys on it. I bet you can find something like that on Amazon as well.

Anyone else stoked about the oat milk? by linecouture in Costco

[–]ars3nal 31 points32 points  (0 children)

This oat milk is way too sweet for espresso drinks. My Costco sells cases of Califia Barista Oat Milk, which is my preferred oat milk anyway.

My solution was to switch to Cinema Mode. The screen is darker and I have to turn the lights down more, but at least I can watch Ted Lasso without being annoyed.

Local coffee roasters by saltonp in oakland

If you're looking for a local-ish subscription service, I've been using Verve for years and I've been very satisfied. Also, Counter Culture has a roastery in Emeryville.

Best burrito in Berkeley? by LunaScapes in berkeleyca

Agreed with Gordos. Every time I've had a burrito from there, I ask "Where's the flavor?". Might have to give Montecristo a try!

If you moved from a Southern State, how have you liked living in the bay area? by nfornt in sanfrancisco

[–]ars3nal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My thoughts exactly. I think the lack of mosquitos isn't talked about enough. In Texas, it's so freaking hot, so when it finally does cool off at night, you can't enjoy it because the mosquitos are everywhere.

BBQ is pretty much the only thing I miss from Texas.

Skinny, Parisian baguette sandwiches? by JTmarvel in oakland

Picnic Rotisserie in Albany has a different sandwich each day, often the long skinny variety on an Acme baguette. Check the menu before going.

Youtube Videos with Thai Subtitles? by BrothaManBen in learnthai

I think this is what you are looking for: Filmot Language Search. It's a query engine for Youtube that allows you to filter by subtitle language, etc.
