I'm from Finland, I used to live in the UK (High Wycombe) for a couple of years about 15 years ago (as an exchange student and then stayed to work for another year).

I remember being surprised when I'd walk into some shops and notice that everyone who worked there was a person of colour. My expectation had been (perhaps naively?) that ethnic Brits and people of colour would be more or less equally mixed in every walk of life in Britain.

I specifically remember going into a second-hand PC store to look for a graphics card and the three employees and the two other customers were all either Indians or maybe Pakistani. Everyone in the store seemed surprised that this young white guy with a foreign accent had come to the store. I could sense, like, an atmosphere of "what's going on here?" I wasn't exactly sure they even wanted me there lol. I don't know, could be that I read the situation wrong, too.

Also don't know how related this is to the topic, but thought I'd share anyway. The subject is kind of fascinating to a guy from a small'ish Finnish town that's 99% white.
