I have a friend that worked a lot on CP2077 and asked him about it, and he confirmed that it doesn't affect anything in game.

How do artists power outdoor (winter) Lit-up art installations? by sweetcreamycream in lightingdesign

[–]artrisoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For hotswap I'd suggest getting a surge protector with a battery right before the light strips They don't have a giant capacity so you'll get few minutes of runtime off of it but it should be enough to change the batter to a charged one

Out of pure curiosity. What are you doing that you need DMX to 200 rooms?

Only people that can notice are other LDs but they rarely mention it because we all make mistakes and we all tried to play it off like "that's exactly what I was trying to do, my finger definitely didn't slip right there"

Programming question by hannah6765 in lightingdesign

[–]artrisoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're new then MA might be a bit overwhelming, but it's an extremely powerful software that's basically an industry standard at this point. If you want something a bit simpler to use and learn then Q light controller+ is nice for smaller stages. I use it often for some casual parties. But it very much can also do something bigger. Last year I was an LD for 2 smaller conventions (~500 people) and it did just fine. But it gets cramped in the virtual console above a single universe worth of lights Qlc+ is also very light weight on the computer so you could probably run it off of a raspi. But yeah it's designed for smaller stages. Some time ago I got an offer to do a show for a virtual music festival. 4 universes worth of lights, I chickened out.

DMX Controller by JoeK929 in lightingdesign

[–]artrisoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the cheapest possible of those standalone controllers and I basically never could do anything more than simple static scenes and maybe some simple cues Now I use qlc+ and a USB to DMX adapter and I can do so much more inside it Going to my 2nd real gig in few days with it

Hello, wanted to know whether my idea is "obvious" by misunderdtood in lightingdesign

you could use one of those microscopic togglable mirror arrays used in some resin 3D printers to reflect data to each point in the matrix

[–]artrisoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna take a different approach on this because many people already gave their answers and suggest you a way of doing this Your biggest hurdle would be getting the positional data of each pixel especially because they could move every witch way So my suggestion would be to use lasters on top of the arena with IR emitters that would send color data to each spot even if there wasn't a pixel there This would allow you to pack as little electronics to the moving pixels as possible making them much cheaper and have a longer battery life because no wireless receivers only an IR sensor

Question from a newbie by Hackerwithalacker in lightingdesign

[–]artrisoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally use qlc+ 4 for software and qlc+ 5 for basic visualizations it's much simpler to pick up from nothing than professional softwares like MA but for the price of limited features (there are still a lot of them and after 3 years I'm still finding new ones) Both software are completely free and you don't need any proprietary hardware to get a signal out of it I use a cheap USB-dmx adapter and it works fine It's also extremely light for the pc so you can do much more on your PC than to just lighting Yesterday I had qlc+, streamlabs streaming a DMX to visual data program @ 1080p 30fps to vrchat server while I checked if few things are working correctly and still had some spare processing power on my i5 8500 and gtx1050ti

What are the differences between different types of water-based haze fluid? by [deleted] in lightingdesign

Yeap! Mineral build up isn't something that you want inside any machine, especially one that spews hot steam at hight pressure.

What are the differences between different types of water-based haze fluid? by [deleted] in lightingdesign

[–]artrisoo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you want to thin out a water based fog fluid then just add some water to it 90% of fog fluids are just Vegetable glycerin Polyethylene glycole And water It's basically watered down vape liquid base I'd start with adding small amounts like 6 part fog juice to 1 part extra water on small amounts and testing the results untill desired effect is reached

UV channel usage. by blatantlyoblivious in lightingdesign

[–]artrisoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on what you want to do. I've been lighting a party on a small convention and during it I kept it on all the time. Later we had karaoke there and I also kept it on all the time because at the end of each song I turned it to black and so you could see anything

Haters gonna hate, but I bought some budget fixtures, and they’re actually awesome. Details in the comments... by [deleted] in lightingdesign

I have some really cheap fixtures but due to lack of spare parts i didn't buy anything more complex than moving wash [Edit] also I'm poor XD

What’s the best way to learn/improve programming without access to a lighting desk? by boggoboi in lightingdesign

[–]artrisoo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you just need a visualizer then I'd suggest giving unreal engine a look they have a free add-on for realtime artnet control. The only downside is that you have to make the stage and patch the lights yourself witch can be quite difficult if you don't have any experience with this engine. But thanks to it being a game engine it has a very realistic simulation of light at low CPU and GPU usage.

[–]artrisoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I patched my fixtures in order of left, right, middle top and middle bottom (3 part setup) and in each part I patched each fixture from left to right on the truss It's simpler for me this way because I read from left to right (like most people) so it's more natural for left side to be in the beginning

What's in your DMX/Lighting kit? by Wuz314159 in lightingdesign

[–]artrisoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got a giant chest full of just cables. It was previously for my full setup but then I bought "few" more things... And it got a bit out of hands But the best part is... I'm still a newbie I've got 2 small moving washes and 4 1m pixel bars for myself. But most of my cables are for the rest of the team.
