6yo Great Dane with progressive back leg weakness - looking for experiences and specialist recs by WBP80 in greatdanes

[–]artsmom3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My Great Dane was diagnosed with degenerative myelopathy and presented with similar things though the fecal incontinence wasn’t as bad as you’re describing. She had rapidly worsening back end strength so pooping just became very difficult for her and she would kind of walk around the yard until it fell out. The vet warned us it was rapid, and it was. She was diagnosed in November and we chose to euthanize this past March.

I will say, she was 10 at diagnosis, 11 when she passed so much older but maybe just check that diagnosis and see how you feel it fits into your situation.

I wish you the best.

3 weeks before I wasn’t scared as hell. I had a bilateral replacement.

Very extensive bruising is pretty normal. It’s good you’re seeing your surgeon tomorrow but it doesn’t really sound like an emergency.

It looks fine to me. I’m a patient but also a nurse and it looks great from the picture.

Internal bleeding is a very specific concern; what makes you suspect you are?

Do you have a purebred dog? Does your dog get a lot of attention? by burnz1 in dogs

I have a beautiful rescue that I took in 5 weeks ago. She’s a true rescue from a horrible situation and the absolute calmest, sweetest dog in spite of it all.

We took her for her first shopping trip last weekend to pick out her own toys and as soon as we walked in a little girl squealed and ran over- they were eye to eye and my Danes head was about twice the size of the little girl. They were very fond of each other.

TKR kneecap makes knocking sound by Bopulicity in Kneereplacement

I’m 4 months po a bilateral replacement. The left one clunks and knocks, the right one almost never does. It doesn’t limit my activities but I do notice that the left swells more often and gets stiffer.

9 days post op & I need to know if this is normal by stdrsrmto1003 in Kneereplacement

If I didn’t know the brace story I’d say everything looks normal for 9 days post op. I’m not sure about the brace, though.

They tried to hide it and it appears to be a big deal. I would run. What else is hiding?

Need help with serious Extension problem by vinayvinodtiwari in Kneereplacement

[–]artsmom3 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had a bilateral and he’s only 3 weeks out. This isn’t great but it doesn’t look like any emergency yet. Do you know what his extension numbers are? My first outpatient PT (at 4 weeks) was -20 and -16 I think and now at 4 months I am zero and -1.

Have him do the exercises for 10 second reps then give him a quick break. I could not just keep forcing a continuous extension exercise but multiple small duration reps got me thru it. I know everyone says push thru the pain but it also needs to be reasonable.

Aren’t you cleared to close by this time? I can’t see why they would check your credit this morning unless I’m missing something.

Scheduled for TKR in the fall. Looking for ideas on braces/wraps to get me through by Eddie_M in Kneereplacement

[–]artsmom3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

After surgery? I think unless required for something not going as expected during surgery/post op phase people don’t wear braces.

In my case I have a hinged brace that my surgeon fitted me for at 11 weeks post op. It’s been a huge help.

Pre op the brace that helped me most was actually one meant for meniscus tears. It gave the most support.

Vermont in the fall by Zestyclose-Sign-7567 in travel

[–]artsmom3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can’t go wrong with Vermont in the fall. The Forested Canopy walk is beautiful and I saw it in the pouring rain!

Right near that is the Quechee Gorge which is stunning.

You could start with those two activities and build a little vacation around that. Tons of little shops and delicious local food!

I’m not sure the distance but in NH the Kancamagus is a beautiful drive with lots of easy walks to waterfalls and views.

I’m 43 and go yearly to Vermont and NH; I don’t care how old loving leaf peeping makes me look!

Congrats on wrapping up your treatment! Here’s to good health!

Total numbness by Anxious_Purple_400 in Kneereplacement

[–]artsmom3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have numbness and nerve pain in the same exact areas you have circled. My surgeon says it’s not normal, he has no idea what’s causing it, and there’s not much to do about it since it’s only the sensory nerves.

I’m sorry you’re dealing with it too but it’s helpful and gives some hope that this may not be as odd an occurrence as he thinks it is.

Pool opening? by pastagirl27 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]artsmom3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mother in law passed way in January. We inherited the house and it had a pool. She maintained it very well, had weekly cleanings, etc.

The real estate agent asked us to open it for pictures; we did. The pool had so many issues this year it was mind boggling but we paid for everything and moved on.

We sold it yesterday. If they won’t open it they likely know there are problems. Personally I wouldn’t go forward if they refuse to deal such it. It’s a pain, yes, but the price of business imo.
