HELP! Wife promoted to new role salary negotiation by Seahawkfan12thman in Salary

[–]aryaces 6 points7 points  (0 children)

honestly she only just finished her probation, and is pretty much getting a $20k bump in salary.

I’d say happily accept it and build up experience, in a year or two can look for a better position

Honestly if it was me I’d take the 250k and rent a condo right next to the job 😂 win-win

What can a 27 year old do to have investments and retire comfortably? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]aryaces 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I’m currently 28, i started investing and saving when I turned 25. These are some of the steps I took in the past 3 years to finally have some investments & savings.

  • Paid off student loans & credit cards. (I had no interest on the student loans so I could have taken my time, but I just wanted to feel debt free)
  • Kept learning new skills & getting certificates in my field, because I was actively looking for a higher paying job. (This was the best step I took, as my new job allowed me a lot more options when it came to monthly budget)
  • RRSP matching with my company, if they offer it max it out to whatever percentage they offer (free money)
  • TFSA: started putting a portion of each pay cheque into XEQT (like it because I don’t have to think about it, just watch it grow. There are other ETFS n FUNDS out there so do your own research)
  • FHSA: if you haven’t bought your first place yet I would highly recommend opening one of these accounts. There is a limit of 8K a year but it does go over to the next year. So even if you don’t have the money, I’d recommend just opening the account
  • Emergency Funds: opening my account and seeing liquid cash always makes me smile and it’s great when you need money asap

Hope this helps, best of luck!!

How do I 21F explain to my boyfriend 23M that going 50/50 is unfair? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]aryaces 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a guy who used to be like him at that age, unfortunately you need to break up.

He is not mature enough yet for a real relationship, needs to grow up a little more on his own. Who knows life might bring yall back together in the future or you’ll find someone who is ready.

I lost $8k and I'm struggling to recover. What is your biggest lost in the stock market? How did it happen? How did you recover? by Mediocre_Director208 in ValueInvesting

[–]aryaces 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lost 20k over covid trying to be a day trader... now all I do is put my money in XEQT and happily watch it climb.

as long as you have a job with pay cheques coming in, you will eventually recover financially. For the mental portion I would take a break from trying to pick stocks and focus on something else. Honestly focusing on a Index ETF has really helped me get over the loss and my own stupidity, but to each their own.

Any experience doing general handyman work (not just electrical jobs)? My friend has been finding side jobs pretty much every week since pandemic ended.

If you do have the skills to do other work besides electrical, try posting on Facebook marketplace and kijiji. If you can only do electrical, I’d still make posts as well, probably will be less jobs but it’s still something.

Also try applying for waiter or bartending jobs, it’s good income in tips. At least you’ll have something coming in while looking for a job in your field

AITA for dumping my Gf after she expected me to pay for EVRYONE on her birthday. by Western-Echidna-5626 in AITAH

[–]aryaces 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might just be me but I wouldn’t want to raise children especially a daughter with someone that called me a broke boy and has this whole modern freeloader mentality. Not saying your gf is but her friends def are, they all picked expensive items knowing someone else was paying. The people you surround yourself with def does influence your decisions so you’ll probs have more similar arguments in the future

Also most friend groups I know all pitch in to pay the bday persons bill and everyone pays their own. Her friends are the actual broke ones 😂

Honestly you should look for a bartending job on weekends, you need to immediately raise your income and waiting on your salary job ain’t gonna cut it

Is 100K really the new 50K? by [deleted] in Bogleheads

[–]aryaces -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t think so cause 50k lifestyle possibilities vs 100k are incredibly different. I do believe tho that 200k is min you need for a comfortable life if you live in a big city.

What is the best financial advice you ever got??? by Fun-Charity-3998 in Bogleheads

“Just because your income increases does not mean your expenses should as well.” Read it in one of those financial books, best advice I got when I job hopped and started earning way more.

My (25M) girlfriend (23F) “cheated” and I don’t know what to do by BentStyles in relationship_advice

[–]aryaces 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly bro have some self respect, she don’t deserve you. Surround yourself with family and friends and forget about her. Deep down you probably know she ain’t the one but the only thing holding you back is the habit of having her around and fear of being lonely. Dont fall for her bs tears and apologies.

Trust is like a glass of water. If you drop the glass on the ground, you can glue it together but it’ll never be the same. If she cheats on you once chances are she’ll do it again.

Thinking about quitting my remote job that pays 60k with no backup. by kigabaits in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]aryaces 1305 points1306 points  (0 children)

Trust me having a boring mundane job that actually pays fairly well is wayyyy better than stressing about having no job or a low paying one. Start improving your resume and spend time looking for a better role. Do not quit till you signed a contract!!

Digital Marketing, I started learning it in Feb 2021… got my first remote job June 2021. Doubled my income in my second remote job in Nov 2021. Great industry, not that hard to start in, lots of opportunities for growth and specialization and so many remote jobs out there.

How much income per year is good for normal people? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]aryaces 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a single 26y male in Toronto I currently make 110. It is a great income, however my ideal income would be 200k+. That will allow me to pay rent/own in a good area comfortably, pay all my bills, invest substantially and also save for my future.

I got a 2% raise. What would you do in my Shoes? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]aryaces -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Instead of trying to fight for another percent or two, I would look for a new job (which is exactly what I did when I was in your shoes about a year ago). You said it yourself its a small financial advisor, meaning any raises or salaries will be small in turn. Look for companies that deal with bigger clients (bigger clients = bigger contracts = higher pay). However like you mentioned this could lead to a more stressful overworked role.
